[edit] Proposal to Merge this list with List of Russians
This list is highly incomplete and contains a good 60% of other nationalities. It may be best to merge this list with list of Russians, considering that list already has a warning that it contains peoples who may not be ethnic Russians. Also, in essense the Belarusian language is a dialect of Russian moreso than Ukrainian, so it may be wise to just treat it as a provincial language of Russians and merge the two lists. It will increase the Russian list and make this small list look less foolish. If I get no responses, I will conduct the merging myself.

You are breaking the wikipedia rules; in case you forgot; users are allowed to contribute and make decisions. If I was an ass, I would have just moved this list a long time ago. Instead, I ask for support and get this. Also use the word "chauvinistic" correctly.
- If you persist in your schauwinistismus, you will be banned from editing despite your superior command of English; in case you forgot, there are other editors around. mikka (t) 21:34, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
You are entitled to your point of view that belarussians are russians that speak broken russian or something similar, but this opinion will not be base of major changes in articles. If you may find solid refernces that promote this opinion, you may add them to the Belarusians article with exact indication who expresses this opinion, since it is far cry from being mainstream. mikka (t) 05:57, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
My main concern isn't whether or not Belarusians are slightly culturally or linguistically different from Russians; truly it is that this list seems to underplay them and their achievements; it would have been best IMO to include all Sovieters under one list but unfortunately nationalism got in the way.
- Go on and put all people on the Earth under one list, and don't complain then that nationalism gets in the way. --Monkbel 19:16, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
So you're telling me the French nationality and German nationality is the same degrees apart as the Belarusians and the Russians?! Get over yourself and blame the commies.
- It is not your or mine business how much they differ. Sufficient to say that their difference is recognized internationally, and commies have nothing to do with this. For an average Chinese there is probably no differene between french or german or english. If you don't know the difference, then please go away and read some books. mikka (t) 20:38, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
Interesting all books consider the Belarusians just derivatives of the Russians, much in the same way as Austrians are derived from the Germans.

This is blatant POV-Pushing. Most of these people are ethnic Russians or Poles, recast as Belorussians for some reason.
- And? The same can be said about any other list of people. You can edit, but leave it, please. Yeti 23:58, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] New Additions
Many of the recent additions were taken from this list (PDF), as list of some historically famous Belarusian people. The problem is that most of these names are spelled phonetically and hence do not appear in this fashion in the English language. If we have a native Belarusian speaker here, can you please help and transliterate these new names? Thanks. Antidote 23:01, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Meyer Lansky
under wat category would I add Meyer Lansky?
