Talk:List of BattleTech characters

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm thinking of dividing this into the various houses, factions, etc. As is it's a huge list and not very easy to read. Needs a index as well, anyone feel like helping? Whispering 21:46, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Sounds good to me, Also I think Mechwarrior:Dark Age Characters should be added as they emerge in the new saga. The index would have to be divided into Classic and Dark Age, and from there each would be devided in to Inner Sphere and Clan, and then seprate factions in each from there on. I'll help where I can. It really is better this way. Don't touch it.
eh... that would just make it messier... too many of these people don't fit into soleley one house.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 06:14, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Pretending for a moment that it was possible to divide all the characters cleanly between factions, would it be good to move these character bios onto the wikipedia pages for each faction?Skiltao 02:36, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Honestly, it probably would make sense, but I just finished linking whole bunches of characters to this page and I would hate to have to change them all. Scaletail 22:10, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
New idea. How about putting them in a category (let's call it "BattleTech characters") and giving each character individual pages. We could bicker about how to organize it later, but the idea of sorting it by faction sounds good to me. I think most characters that are open to debate are famous enough that it won't matter. That would also make the task of linking characters to their bio pages considerably easier. Scaletail 01:19, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree that Dark Age/Age of Destruction characters should be added, but i think it would be best to give them their own page. I'm going to make it and would appreciate any help in editing it as I am not that familar wiuth the clans in DA/AoD.
Given the recent spate of deletion proposals made against various BattleTech pages, I'd recommend against creating new list pages of characters; a single list of the major players is much easier to justify. Also, while I agree that there are a few characters who don't fall cleanly into a single faction, most characters do, and dividing up the list along those lines would make it much more readable.
One of the biggest things that needs to be done here, IMO, is to shorten and tighten up some of the character bios. A single paragraph of just a few sentences is probably all that's necessary, and it'd allow us to cover more people without making the article too massive. We should also start citing sources. A list like the List of Honorverse characters would be nice. A few major one may be notable, but 99% should be on this single list. The same should hold true for List of BattleTech locations and so on.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 00:30, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

What is a freeborn? An Elemental? It would be nice if someone put some info about this things.

A freeborn is a clan warrior born outside the genetic engineering program. I added a link to the clan article from Jaime Wolf's entry to clarify this. Mleivo (talk) 12:54, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
