Should this differentiate between AFL debut (ie Dunn and Bate) and club debut (Pickett)? AFL debut players in bold maybe?The-Pope 15:53, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah or maybe in brackets specify (2nd club)... Rogerthat Talk 07:50, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sourcing

AFAIK, there isn't a single web page that highlights debuts. Surely you don't expect links to newspaper stories (high risk of them becoming broken) or the AFL or AFL stats sites. Every player listed has a link to his wiki page. On that page it states their debut game and also should have a link to their AFL stats page. 1 or 2 clicks and it's verified.The-Pope 07:26, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

One of the three major policies of Wikipedia is that you must provide verified sources for any claims made. If it is too difficult to list sources, then the claims shouldnt be made. You can read the policy at WP:V. Note that other Wikipedia articles are not considered sources (see WP:RS). If the WP:V policy was fully enforced, an editor could be entitled to remove all the content from the article - but to me that seems overly drastic which is why I simply placed the unsourced tag on the page. Please dont remove the tag if you dont intend to properly cite the sources. Remy B 08:46, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

An inconspicuous link like this [1] next to each name would be a good way to format it. I think the RLeague site would be the best site to link to since it is so easy to scan its pages for the required text. Remy B 11:53, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Well I've done half... how about you do the other half, and not just tag it for other people to do.The-Pope 12:41, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
I was half-expecting a sly comment along those lines. Just as WP:V says: The obligation to provide a reputable source lies with the editors wishing to include the material, not on those seeking to remove it. Theres no need for personal resentment when someone points out that work you have done does not meet a minimum standard. Remy B 12:48, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Fair enough, sorry for the "sly comment"... but I only added a couple of "material", and thought that the 2 step link to the players wiki articles, which had the links to the AFL/rleague sites was sufficient. You had the idea of linking to the rleague site and knew how to make the small links (thanks for that, always wondered how to get them small). I think if you have the idea, then make the edits yourself. In the end we all just want WP:AFL to be complete. I guess I'll be off now to the Freo pages, ensuring that we have links covering every little stat that is listed.The-Pope 12:59, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
The RLeague site has/is going to save us a lot of work in that regard. It is an extremely convenient source for most of the stats we want. I just hope it doesnt get shut down all of a sudden some day. It really is disappointing that the official AFL site is so sloppy with stats on its past and present players. Remy B 13:04, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
I don't see the point of adding these links in the cases where that player already has a Wikipedia page (and a link to their Rleague page within). Rogerthat Talk 09:38, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
The AFL site is actually getting better... if you click on AFL history then Historical stats, you can find stats on all past players in terms of games and goals. it sends you to [2] It isn't very user friendly, or linkable, but it's not bad to cut and paste into Excel!The-Pope 13:10, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
All that info is on RLeague anyway. Rogerthat Talk 09:38, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
