The Common Lisp implementation at the heart of LispWorks has its origins in Lucid Common Lisp, which was written by Richard P. Gabriel's company, Lucid Inc. When Lucid folded in 1994 due to mismanagement, Lucid Common Lisp was sold to Harlequin.

LispWorks is not based on Lucid CL. Harlequin bought Lucid CL when it already had LispWorks for some time. Harlequin then ported some of its software over to Lucid CL. But LispWorks is the main Lisp product. Lucid CL was probably bought to get the customers. What was Lucid CL is still maintained as Liquid CL.

Correct. LCL was acquired in late 1994; the first LW release was 1989. Technical subnote: early builds of LW were bootstrapped using LCL. Nick Levine 20:26, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

This page as stands doesn't make sense, the name Harlequin is just dropped in the second paragraph. There is no context.
