This article lists universities in Switzerland.

According with the Rectors' Conference of the Swiss Universities CRUS[1], there are 12 official higher education institutions in Switzerland (10 cantonal universities and 2 federal institutes of technology plus a number of Universities of Applied Sciences):

- University of Berne (Berne), German-speaking
- University of Fribourg (Fribourg), French- and German-speaking
- University of Geneva (Geneva), French-speaking
- University of Neuchâtel (Neuchâtel), French-speaking
- University of Lausanne (Lausanne), French-speaking
- University of Lucerne (Lucerne), German-speaking
- Università della Svizzera Italiana (Lugano), Italian-speaking
- University of St. Gallen (HSG) (St. Gallen), German-speaking
- University of Zurich (Zürich), German-speaking
- ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich) (Zürich), German-speaking
- EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne) (Lausanne), French-speaking
- various Universities of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschulen)

The CRUS considers as institutions of higher education:
- the European University
- the Graduate Institute for International Studies (Institut universitaire de hautes études internationales IUHEI) in Geneva
- the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration (Institut de hautes études en administration publique IDHEAP) in Lausanne
- the Graduate Institute Kurt Bösch (Institut Universitaire Kurt Bösch, IUKB) in Sion
- the Graduate Institute of Development Studies (Institut universitaire d’études du développement, IUED) in Geneva
[edit] Private colleges
There are a number of private colleges which offer courses based on the Anglo-American system. The studies and examinations offered by these colleges are not recognized in Switzerland. The CRUS warns that some of these colleges may even offer courses which are not serious, and advises anyone interested in following such a course to make careful initial investigations into the problem of recognition.
