Most symphonies by classical composers after the baroque era are indicated by a number:

  • Symphony No. 2: Many classical era and quite a few romantic composers, also some 20th century (or later) classical composers.
  • Symphony No. 3: Many classical era and quite a few romantic composers, also some 20th century (or later) classical composers.

  • Symphony No. 9: Many classical era and quite a few romantic composers, also some 20th century (or later) classical composers. An intangible predicament, known as "Curse of the ninth", made many romantic composers stop at (or about) N° 9.
