The list of shipwrecks in 2008 includes all ships sunk, foundered, grounded, or otherwise lost during 2008.

Greek cargo Ice Prince sank in the English Channel near Devon. It was carrying more than 5000t of timber to Alexandria. All the crew members were rescued. [1]

A Panamanian cargo sank near Taiwan after being overwhelmed by a wave. It was transporting gravel from Hong Kong. All the 8 Chinese crew members died. [2]

The MS Riverdance develops a severe list in the Irish sea. Ship was beached at Blackpool, all crew and passengers airlifted to safety.[3][4]

FV Spinningdale runs aground on St Kilda. All 14 crew airlifted to safety. [5]

MS UND Adriyatik catches fire in the northern Adriatic Sea. All crewmembers saved.[6]

According to ATN Bangla television and a Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority report, an overloaded Bangladeshi ferry MV Shourav carrying 100 passengers on board was rammed by a sand cargo, and then sank. This occurred on the Buriganga River, in the outskirts of Dhaka, killing 49.[7][8]

According to Hong Kong's RTHK, a Ukrainian tugboat, Naftogaz-67, has sunk and is lying upside-down in 37 metres deep of water with 18 crews missing after colliding with a Chinese cargo ship Yao-Hai off Tuen Mun. [9][10][11] [12]

According to Coast Guard of Japan and Japanese major television network, including NTV and TBS report, a fishingboat Nikko Maru sank by stormy condition at Mutsu Bay, off Aomori, northern Honshu, killing eight.[13]

According to Coast Guard of South Korea and South Korean television network KBS and SBS report, a Chinese fishingboat Lujiao Yu sank by overturning after it collided with South Korean freighter Panbless off Mara Island, six Chinese are missing.[14]

According to a Coast Guard of Japan report, Chinese fishing boat Lurong Yu 2177 sank after colliding with Hong Kong freighter Shinyo Sawako between Kyushu and Amami Island, in the East China Sea, Japan, killing 16.[15][16]

According to Brazilian Army and Rede Globo television network report, Brazilian river boat Comandante Sales, carrying 80 people, capsized at Solimoes River, on the outskirts of Manacapura, Amazonas, Brazil, killing 41, mostly women.[17]

A Bangladeshi double decker ferry MV Nazimuddin carrying 150 passengers on board sank. This occurred on the Ghorautura River, Ghoradigha, Kishoregani, 80 km from Dhaka, killing at least 41. [18]
