• Ehime Maru and USS Greeneville collision ( Japan): High school training vessel sunk by surfacing submarine USS Greeneville. Nine persons drowned, including four teen-age high school students.

• Sun 11 ( Bahamas): Former cruise liner sinks off Cape St. Francis, South Africa whilst under tow.

• SIEV X ( Indonesia): Classified by Australia as Suspected Illegal Entry Vessel. Sunk enroute between Bandar Lampung and Australian territory. 353 passengers were drowned.
