- Japan, According to Japan Coast Guard and Nippon Television Network report, Japanese fishing boat Eifuku Maru capsized off Fukue Island, western Japan, killing 21.[citation needed]

- USS George Washington United States surfaced under Nisho Maru Japan, sinking her with the loss of two crew.

- Arctic Explorer sank off St. Anthony, thirteen crew killed.

- S-178 Russia rammed and sunk by Refrizkerator-13 Russia in Golden Horn Bay. Thirty one crew killed.

- Lifeboat Solomon Browne United Kingdom lost whilst attempting to rescue the crew of the Union Star Ireland. 8 crew lost on each vessel.
