- Gunvor United Kingdom wrecked on Pedn-Mean-an-Mor rocks, crew scrambled to safety.[1]
- Barquentine Mildred United Kingdom struck rocks at Gurnard's Head in dense fog and sank with her sails set. No lives lost.[1]

- RMS Titanic ( United Kingdom): Largest ocean liner launched to date, sank during her maiden voyage.

- HMS Waterwitch, British Admiralty survey vessel, rammed by the governor's launch while anchored in Singapore Harbour.

- SS Kichemaru, off the coast of Japan in a storm. Over 1,000 dead.
