Between 1977 and the mid-1980s, the British shipbuilding industry, with the exceptions of a few minor yards, was nationalised as the British Shipbuilders Corporation. British Shipbuilders restructured the industry extensively, merging and closing many operations, with the remnants sold off throughout the 1980s.
