List of roads in Kuala Lumpur

Like all other historical urban centres, the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, contains a number of current and old roads and streets across the city.
The majority of roads in Kuala Lumpur were initially written primarily in English, and named after British officials (and a handful of local figure), districts, local populations, landmarks or geographical features. Following Malaya's independence and the formation of Malaysia, numerous roads in Kuala Lumpur are written in the Malay language (i.e. "Old Market Square" as "Medan Pasar Besar"), and renamed or updated to primarily commemorate local Malay figures, Malay culture and key politicians in Malaya/Malaysia. The renaming included roads in the core of old Kuala Lumpur, as well as main routes in the city. As such, obscure roads, spared from renaming, tend to retain their earlier, pre-independence names.
In addition, the accelerated development of the city after the country's independence saw the widening of existing artery routes, creation of new roadways, and extensive grade separation of roadways. This resulted in significant alterations of roadways in the city, with several roads merged, split, or modified.
