Home Farm is filmed at Creskeld Hall at Arthington, near Bramhope.

Home Farm was once occupied by the Tate family, Frank, Kim, Chris and Zoe.

It was the set of many famous Tate family moments. Tragedy has always seemed to come to those who have lived there. One the 27 May 1997 Frank Tate died from at Heart attack, as his wife Kim looked on. Frank had thought Kim had died at the start of the year, but her surprise return gave Frank his third and final heart attack.

In 2003 Chris Tate discovered that his wife Charity was having an affair with her daughter's father, her cousin Cain Dingle. Chris was devastated and when he learned that he had an inoperable terminal brain tumor, he decided to plan the ultimate revenge for his wife. Chris set out an elaborate plan in which he would commit suicide and frame his wife for his "murder". Chris went through with his plan and Charity was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. Charity ended up giving birth to Chris's son, Noah, while in prison. Chris's sister, Zoe, wanted to raise Noah, or Christopher as she called him, and in order to do so she would have to get Charity out of prison. Charity eventually got out of prison but had to sign away any claim on Chris's money.

A few months after Chris died the King family arrived in Emmerdale with the millionaire patriarch Tom King setting his sights on Home Farm, as that what his late wife Mary would have really wanted. Obviously Zoe wasn't going to sell, at any price, and the Kings stayed at Holgate Farm for the meantime.

It took the Kings over a year and a half to finally own Home Farm. In September 2005 Tom's daughter in-law Sadie went about blackmailing Zoe in to selling Home Farm. As a parting gift to the Kings, Zoe blew up some of the house with a gas leak.

Not even a month passed with the Kings living in Home Farm when tragedy hit. Tom's youngest son Max was killed instantly in a car explosion on 2 October 2005. Max was sick of his father's interference in his life and decided to leave the village but died before he had the chance.

A little over a year later on Christmas Day 2006, Tom was hit over the head with a horse statue and pushed from his bedroom window. This all happened on his wedding day to snooty Rosemary Sinclair. Tom's death started the biggest murder investigation in Emmerdale history, aptly titled Who Killed Tom King?. Nearly five months later the killed was reveal to be his youngest living son, Carl.

For the murder, the Emmerdale crew built a special facade on top of Creskeld Hall's flat-roofed link between the north and south wings. The fake frontage was supposed to be a bedroom and it was constructed with a special window frame made of lightweight wood and sugar glass for the stunt man to jump through backwards onto a waiting mattress on the ground.[1]

Creskeld is now the longest serving film location used on Emmerdale.

Home Farm is also the location for Home Farm Estates which is owned by the King brothers and run by Rodney Blackstock.

Jimmy, Matthew, and Carl currently live in Home Farm which is owned by Jimmy, Matthew, Carl and Scarlett Nicholls.

[edit] Butler's Farm

Farmer Andy Sugden has been the only one to constantly live at Butler's Farm. He has shared the house with many people. In 2003 he lived there with fiancée Katie Addyman. Unbeknownst to Andy, Katie was having a steamy affair with his adoptive brother Robert. Katie still married Andy on 17 February 2004 despite the affair not ending. Eventually Robert and Katie told Andy about their affair to Andy at Butler's and a vicious fight ensued ending with Andy pulling out a shotgun and holding Katie and Robert at gunpoint for a while. Andy remained at Butler's with only half brother Daz Eden for company. Surprisingly Cain Dingle and 15 year old daughter Debbie moved into Butler's Farm. Daz had an eye for Debbie but she had the hots for Andy. The lonely farmer was also low and one night when Debbie kissed him he reciprocated and they ended up in bed, even though Andy was nearly 19 and Debbie was just 15. The affair continued right under Cain's nose but when Cain and the rest of the Dinlge's found out, the relationship came to an end. Debbie soon discovered she was pregnant, but kept it a secret until she gave birth in a shed in the woods. Luckily for Debbie, Daz happened to be there and helped her through it and named her baby Sarah. Debbie couldn't cope with Sarah and after only a few months she persuaded a departing Emily Kirk to take Sarah with her. Sarah would not be seen for a year.

In February 2006 Andy's estranged wife Katie was involved in a serious car crash which left her father Brian dead and her in a coma. Katie left the village after Robert had an affair with Sadie King. When Katie recovered she and Andy decided to give the marriage another go when they realised they still had feelings for one another. This didn't go down well with Andy's family and Daz eventually moved out.

Things between Andy and Katie weren't the best as Andy found it hard to trust Katie. Their marriage was very rocky and when Jo Stiles moved in things went from bad to worse. Having sexy Jo around started to get on Katie's nerves, especially since Andy seemed more than happy with the view. She made moves to try and get her to move on, but Jo was determined to stay. When Jo spied Katie being kissed by Andy's teenage brother Daz, Jo saw an opportunity for blackmail her rival. Andy eventually gave into his urges and he and Jo began a short lived passionate affair. Jo was devastated when Andy ending things as she started to fall for him. Over the next few months Jo would do anything to make herself look good and Katie bad. When Sarah was brought back Jo seemed to find she loved kids and acted more of a mother to Sarah than Katie. It all paid off in the end as Andy fell for Jo and ended his marriage with Katie.

Andy, Jo and Sarah currently live at Butler's Farm which is owned by Home Farm Estates.

[edit] Wishing Well Cottage

The Dingle homestead has seen many a Dingle pass through since 1994. The first Dingles to live there were, Zak, Nellie, Butch, Tina and Sam. The Dingles are no strangers to the law and have had their house raided on numerous occasions. The most memorable incidents include the time in August 2006 when the police learned that Sam had killed his dying wife Alice following a euthanasia pact. When the police came to question Sam, the Dingles barracaded themselves in the house. After the police gained entry to the house and arrested Sam, everyone who was there, except for Belle, said that they killed Alice. Eventually the police picked holes in the stories of the Dingles but Cain said he would confess to save his half brother from jail.

In early 2007 the police were searching for Tom King's killer and in the course of their investigations they discovered that Eli Dingle had stolen some things from Home Farm. With a search warrant DCI Grace Barraclough searched Wishing Well Cottage and the stolen items were eventually found in a pigsty.

Zak, Lisa, Sam, Chas, Shadrach, Eli, Samson and Belle currently live at Wishing Well Cootage.

[edit] Holdgate Farm

This was the home of the Reynolds family, Sean, Angie, Marc and Ollie. Holdgate Farm is located next to Wishing Well Cottage and with Angie being a police officer many of the Dingles had to watch their step. However, in early 2000 one Dingle decided to ignore the fact he lived next door to a cop and have some fun and that was Cain Dingle. Angie was determined not to let Cain get to her but to no success. Cain started to have feelings for Angie and it started to look like Angie was lusting after Cain and with her marriage in tatters after Sean had an affair with Lady Tara Thornfield, Angie gave into Cain and began an affair of there own. Sean's father Len came to live with them to try and help Angie and him get there marriage on track. However, Cain was still around and when Angie ended things he got very angry and started sleeping with Angie's 15 year old daughter, Ollie. Sean was the first to leave the village as he and Tara fell hard for one another and decided to start a new life. Angie was very depressed for the remainder of the year and tried to get Cain out their lives once and for all. She persuaded him to break into Tate Haulage and that they could share the money. But when Cain was leaving Tate Haulage, a police car pulled up and out came Angie. A high speed chase ensued and the police car ended up crashing and Angie died in Cain's arm on 22 November 2002. Marc left the village to be with his dad leaving Len and Ollie to move into Jacob's Fold.

At the beginning of 2003 the Marsdens, Ronnie, Frances, Paul, Alistair, Elaine and Siobhan, Paul's wife moved into Holgate Farm. The family only remained there for a few months and all but Paul and Siobhan, who moved into Victoria Cottage, left the village.

In March 2004, the Kings moved into Holdgate Farm when they couldn’t get Zoe Tate to sell them Home Farm. One of the biggest things to happen at Holdgate Farm while the Kings where there was when Paul Marsden fell from scaffolding to his death. He and Carl had been at each other's throats for day all over a package that Carl didn’t want postman Paul to deliver. Carl is afraid of heights but still went up the scaffolding to fix a drainpipe. Paul came to make his peace and ended up helping Carl out. After Paul jokingly tossed something to Carl, the King did the same with when Paul went to grab it he fell backwards and died instantly. With the help of his bothers, Paul's body was moved to Victoria Cottage where it looked to everyone concerned that he fell from a ladder while trying to fix an antenna. As was said above, the Kings moved into Home Farm in September 2005 and left Holgate Farm.

In early 2006 Alan Turner and son Terence moved into Holgate Farm to get away from the gossiping villagers who all believed that Terence had abused his sister Steph when they were kids. They didn’t stay in Holgate Farm for long as Alan learned that Terence did in fact abuse Steph and they had a huge argument which resulted in Terence knocking Alan over and take his money. Alan then returned to the village and back to Betty's House.

Matthew and Sadie King lived at Holgate Farm after the Turner's. Matthew had decided that he wanted to be with Sadie, much to the annoyance of his family. He was kicked out of Home Farm for his choice with Jimmy allowing him to stay at Holgate Farm. But when Matthew and Sadie outbid Jimmy for the Haulage Company, Jimmy kicked them out of Holgate Farm and they moved into Victoria Cottage.

Millionaire antique dealer Rodney Blackstock decided he wanted to buy Holgate Farm so that his son Paul Lambert and then girlfriend Kelly Windsor could turn it into a spa. Kelly's ideas for the spa where going to end up costing Rodney way more than he expected to pay. Holgate Farm was gutted inside to get ready for the spa but local councillor Eric Pollard gladly told Rodney that the spa was not going to get approved leaving him, Paul and Kelly devastated. Nicola De Souza lives here following her return, with her father Rodney Blackstock.

[edit] The village

Emmerdale village
Emmerdale village

Emmerdale village is the focal point of the show. The village used to be named Beckindale until May 1994 when the villagers decided to rename the village at Jack and Sarah Sugden's wedding. It consists of having Smithy Cottage at the top of Main Street with most of the residence on either side of the street and with a few houses and the parish church on Church Lane, just off Main Street. When filmed in Esholt and Arncliffe previously the village appeared larger, and held more houses and even two pubs, however this would have been impossible to include in the village set.

Hari bought into to Paddy's practice in late 2005. Hari and Paddy's friendship fell apart when Hari started to take money from the business account in 2007 to buy a racehorse. When Paddy discovered this a huge argument started but Paddy decided to give his business partner another chance. Only a few days passed and Paddy and Hari got into a brawl because of Hari giving fake evidence in court against the King boys and also assaulting his finace Louise Appleton. Hari ended up in court and Paddy remains at Smithy Cottage alone.

The Main Street of Emmerdale village has houses on both sides of the street, as follows.

[edit] Mill Brook Cottage

Working your way down the villages Main Street from Smithy Cottage there is Mill Brook Cottage on the right. It was gutted by a fire in 2006 after a stray spark ignited spilt vodka, with Debbie Dingle trapped inside. At that time Mill Brook Cottage was known as the Vicarage as local vicar Ashley Thomas lived there with wife Laurel, daughter Gabby, father Sandy and niece Jasmine. Ashley had previously lived there with first wife Bernice, who is the mother of Gabby. Bernice didn't take to motherhood well and decided that the best thing for everyone was if she left the village. After the fire the Thomas's moved into Mulberry Cottage which would eventually become the new vicarage.

In 2007 Matthew King decided that it was time the Kings got back into development despite his brothers protests after what happened at King's River. Jimmy had other plans, he wanted his half sister Scarlett Nicholls to be as close as possible after he only learned of her existence in February 2007. Jimmy persuaded Scarlett's mother, Carrie to buy Mill Brook Cottage and they move in. Carrie was very interested and went ahead with the purchase. While Mill Brook Cottage whilst it was under renovation, Carrie and Scarlett stayed at Dale View, which is owned by the Kings.

[edit] Mulberry Cottage

Mulberry Cottage is located across the road from Mill Brook Cottage. It was bought by engaged couple Simon Meredith and Nicola Blackstock. They thought that their dreams had come through; but after Simon's mother Lesley ran his fish business into the ground Simon and Nicola were left broke. This put a serious strain on their relationship and eventually they broke up after Nicola made the moves on Simon's best friend, bisexual Ivan Jones who was also seeing Paul Lambert at the time, Nicola's half brother.

After this, Nicola left the village and the Thomas family moved in with Simon after the fire at Mill Brook Cottage. Simon was desperate to sell Mullberry Cottage and it was eventually bought by the parish so it could become the new vicarage. After a huge row between Ashley and Sandy, the vicar's dad moved out and into Betty's House. Father and son are back on good terms but Sandy remains at Betty's House as they have begun a relationship, leaving Ashley, Laurel, Gabby and Daniel at Mullberry Cottage. Ashley's niece Jasmine recently moved out to live with friend Debbie Dingle but Laurel's parents, Douglas and Hilary, have since moved in.

In 1993 the post office of Beckindale became a more permanent feature when Vic and Viv Windsor bought it and moved their family in, Vic's daughter Kelly, Viv's son Scott and Vic and Viv's daughter Donna. The Post Office and later Café Hope (2001-) would become very gossipy places with Viv being the village's biggest gossip. In 1994 Viv's first husband and Scott's father Reg Dawson came to the village to start a relationship with Scott but his plan all along was to rob the Post Office. In the process of the heist, Reg and his gang took Viv and Shirley Turner and went to hide at Home Farm. Reg went to shot Viv but Shirley jumped in the way and was shot dead with Reg soon taken out by a police marksman. The Post Office was to be robbed again, this time on Christmas Day 1998 by former convict Billy Hopwood, the biological father of Andy Sudgen. Vic Windsor tried to stop Billy from stealing the money and a fight started which resulted in Vic falling and hitting his head on the counter and dying. Billy was later arrested and spent about eight years in prison.

Viv was on her own for nearly two years before Bob Hope came into her life and they were soon married. The marriage fell apart in 2004 and Viv and Bob divorced resulting in Viv changing back to Windsor. But only a year later Viv and Bob were back together and married soon after.

Next door to the Post Office and Café Hope is Betty's House where Betty Eagleton and Alan Turner live.

When Betty turned up in Emmerdale in 1994, 40 years after her Seth Armstrong, Seth found that his feelings for her had not changed and he was soon proposing. Although they never married, no one could deny that Seth and Betty were soulmates. In 2004, Betty decided to visit her friend Kathy Brookman in Australia and went on a long holiday. Seth joined her, but when she got homesick and returned several months later to Emmerdale, he refused to leave. It looked like the couple may split up until Betty accepted Seth's decision to stay a while longer in Australia. But tragedy was to strike. On his way to visit her, Seth died on the aeroplane. As Betty waited to meet him in the airport, their friend Kathy Glover is forced to break the news to her. Betty was devastated, but received support from Kathy, Biff Fowler and Laurel. During Seth's funeral, Betty took Seth's real coffin and buried it in the countryside, with help from Laurel and Zak and Sam Dingle. However, the fake coffin, containing a sack of sand, was buried by the rest of the villagers in the Emmerdale cemetery. Fortunately her friends rallied round and after a few months Betty was back to her old self.

Soon after, Alan Turner moved into her house and the two got along well. A new person entered Betty's life, the local reverends father, Sandy Thomas. Sandy moved in with Betty much to Alan's disgust however they are now all getting along quite well except for the odd acerbic comment shared between Alan and Sandy. Recently Betty's dog Charlie died and she decided to spread the dog's cremated remains over Seth's burial place. She was accompanied by Sandy and her good friend Edna Birch who looked on as she said goodbye to her beloved pet.

After Matthew learned of Sadie's involvement in the King River House collapse, as she paid Cain Dingle to vandalize the showhome, he broke up with her and moved back to Home Farm. Sadie stayed in Victoria Cottage until she left the village in September 2006 after she and Cain kidnapped Tom King and got a ranson for him, which Cain kept for himself.

Horrified to have lost his girlfriend, Alan had an angry confrontation with his daughter on the stairs at the B&B and tumbled down them. His injuries left Alan at Steph's mercy and she soon gave Kathy Bates in Misery a rival for worst nurse ever. She left a fortune in her will to best friend Val Lambert. Val was really upset to lose Noreen and scattered her ashes on the front lawn of Tall Trees Cottage.

In May 2007 Marlon and Donna Windsor-Dingle noticed that there was a for sale sign at Tall Trees Cottage. Marlon and Donna had been spending months building there own house next to Wishing Well Cottage but had to stop suddenly when local councillor Eric Pollard stopped the building when he discovered that a section of their new house was being built on council land. It would cost too much for Marlon and Donna to redesign the house so they abandoned their plans. They decided to buy a house instead and when they saw the "For Sale" sign at Tall Trees Cottage they saw it as a sign.
