- Louis XVIII, King of France, was paralysed by gout in his final years.
- Antoine Pinay, French Prime Minister, could not use his right arm due to a World War I injury.
- Jean-Marie Le Pen, member of the European Parliament and Presidential candidate, is blind in one eye.

- Bob Kerrey, Governor of Nebraska and U.S. Senator from Nebraska, lost one leg below the knee due to combat injury in Vietnam
- George Wallace, governor of Alabama (paraplegic due to a bullet wound).
- Bob Dole, Senator and 1996 presidential candidate, has one paralyzed arm from a World War II injury.
- David Paterson, Lieutenant Governor of New York (legally blind)
