List of fictional Antichrists

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antichrist characters have been the continuing subject of speculation and attraction, often explored in fiction and media, and the character has developed his own sort of fictional mythology apart from bibical scripture. For example, the Book of Revelation does not say the Antichrist will be the son of Satan. in fact the Book of Revelation doesn't mention the Antichrist at all; but the idea was made popular in at least two movies, The Omen, and its sequels, with the evil child, Damien, who grows up with the destiny to rule and destroy the world, and Rosemary's Baby with her son, Adrian/Andy.

Revisions and sourced additions are welcome.

[edit] Portrayals

Antichrist characters portrayed in fiction and one in nonfiction include:

  • Damien Thorn from the movie series The Omen. This movie was influential in that, in many of the "Anti-Christian" movies that followed, it was naturally assumed that the Antichrist would be named Damien and that he would be Satan's "begotten" son.
  • Damien (possible) from South Park; he is the son of Satan and an obvious parody of The Omen, though he is not specifically called an Antichrist.
  • The animal Antichrist from South Park (though at the end of this episode it is revealed that he was only part of a story made up by Cartman).
  • The demon, Agares, from The Day After Judgement by James Blish.
  • Griffith from the manga series Berserk appears to be playing a very similar role to that of the anti-christ as of his reincarnation.
  • The United States President in Pat Robertson's "End of the Age" book.[5] Took power by following the suicide of one president and arranging the murder of his immediate predecessor as well as the murder of the president's killer.
  • Iscarius Alchemy, a resurrected Judas Iscariot in Matthew Dickens' Shekinah Chronicles series, published by Destiny Image.[6]
  • Azul Dante in the Prodigal Project book series written by Ken Abrham and Daniel Hart.[7]
  • Immanuel Bernstate in Jonathan R. Cash's novel The Age of the Antichrist.[9]
  • Though not referred to as the "Anti-Christ" In Judas St.John becomes drunk with power and uses his revelations to bring destruction to the world during the end times where the revelations of John are being fulfilled.
  • Pain from the popular manga and anime series Naruto, although not deemed an Antichrist, is prophesied to bring about the end of the Naruto universe by causing a revolution. Pain himself believes himself to be a god that will awaken the eyes of the mortals to the pointlessness of fighting, planning on using the mythical Tailed beasts to create a devastating apocalyptic technique to do such. It is also prophesied that his former mentor, Jiraiya, will be the one who will ultimately be given the choice of defeating Pain or not.
  • Light Yagami from the anime and manga "Death Note". Although not referred to as an Antichrist, Light sets out to become the God of a new world after finding a Death Note and finding that anyone whose name is written in it will die. He says that he will pass judgement on who is deserving of life and create a perfect world with no crime or murder. He starts off by killing criminals and when the police begin to investigate all these deaths he kills anyone that tries to get in his way. Throughout the course of the series he gains followers just as the Antichrist has been said to.
