List of cities in Syria

Syria has fourteen governorates, or muhafazat (singular: muhafazah). According to the Central Bureau of Statistics of Syria, there are sixty districts, or manatiq (sing. mintaqah) in Syria, which are further divided into 206 subdistricts, or nawahi (sing. nahia).[1] Every governorate has a capital city, and every district has its own capital or center city. There are 84 cities and 6432 towns/villages in Syria.[1] Below is a list of the cities in Syria.

All of the 14 governorates of Syria have capital cities except Damascus, which is considered the capital city of the Rif Dimashq Governorate. The governorate capital cities are also the capital cities of the districts they belong to.

Amongst the 60 district capital cities, 13 capital cities are also governorate capital cities. Damascus is a governorate and a city. This means that besides the 13 governorate capital cities, there are 47 other district capital cities.
