Lorna struggled emotionally after her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, a heart-warming card from her students was too much, and she left the classroom, later returning to claim that she was resigning from Waterloo Road. She then invited Tom and Izzie to stay at a country cottage for the weekend, where she slipped away upstairs claiming that she was having a bath. After a time, a tipsy Izzie grew suspicious of such a long bath, she raced upstairs to find Lorna on her bed, nearly unconscious from an overdose of sleeping pills. Tom tried to phone for an ambulance, but Lorna had cut the phone line and left his mobile phone in the champagne bucket. Lorna passed away, leaving a letter to explain everything to a distraught Tom and Izzie. | |||

After walking out of school after a late after-school club, Izzie saw Jack and Jed Seddon fighting in the car park. When Jed pulled out a knife, Izzie rushed over there, and Seddon accidentally stabbed her. Jed fled immediately, leaving Jack holding a bleeding Izzie in his arms. Izzie is was fatally injured, leaving Tom to play single dad to her daughters. | |||

Preston later took the chance at Lorna's memorial service to say that she gave up because her faith was weak, Mr Treneman disagreed strongly and debated with Preston in front of all the students and teachers. Preston also demanded the sacking of Davina because of her brief encounter with Brett. Jack went along with it for a while, but eventually reinstated Davina and told Roger and Preston where to go. | |||

Woodham resigned within minutes of her appointment as headmistress – she knew she could talk the talk, but also that she couldn't walk the walk. | |||
