[edit] National capitals
The constitutional and legislative capital of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur. In 2001, the administrative and judicial capital was moved to the planned city of Putrajaya. Both these capitals together with Labuan are classified as Federal Territories of Malaysia.
[edit] State capitals
All the states in Malaysia except for Malacca, Penang, Sabah, and Sarawak, are monarchies. The four non-monarchical states are headed by a Yang di-Pertua Negeri. Thus, those states with monarchies have royal capitals or seats where the palace or official residence of the monarch is situated. These capitals are sometimes different from the state's administrative capitals.
