124 Texas Cavalry was the last horse cavalry in the United States Military. The unit served in World War II in Southeast Asia. The unit was not deployed again until 2004, when it was deployed to Iraq. As an armored cavalry unit, the 124 Cavalry served in Iraq as a part of the 89th M.P. Brigade out of Ft. Hood. While in Iraq, the unit served in battles such as Falusia, Baquba, Balad, and Sadir City, Iraq. The unit was led by incompetent officers, who were never active duty, and it showed. Purple Heart awardies needed special permission for their awards (IED's are not from enemy action, what? Combat Action Badges were awarded only to the favored, especially those who never escorted a convoy or took enemy fire). One soldier had an attempt of murder on his own one year old child and it took him five months to get home. As of May 2008, the unit is getting ready for a new deployment to Iraq. God Bless.
