The following is a list of other bands in which Zao members have been involved, and the Zao members who were involved with them (possibly incomplete). Most of these bands were short-lived, so little is known about them, apart from the fact that at least one Zao member played in each.

  • GODS (Smith, Horner) – "I See You Through Glass" 2005-2006 (Broke up on June 6th, 2006)
  • Grand National Hustler (Weyandt)
  • Into The Looking Glass
  • Jade Meridian (Cogdell, Mellinger, Koschik, Peck) (1998–) – Melodic hard rock band that has performed with Zao at Cornerstone Festivals. It has since become Mellinger's solo project, and several demos have been posted at the projects MySpace page.
  • Los Capitanos (Cogdell, Weyandt, Peck) – Became States of Melba.
  • Monroe (Jonas, Goudy, Cox, Smith) – "Stress relief from Zao."
  • Mutha-Trucka (Weyandt, unknown affiliates) Project that recorded demos in 2001-2002 that was never realized. Heavy Stoner Rock vibe.
  • My Own Halo (Smith)
  • Nodar (Koschik, Cogdell) – Recorded two songs.
  • Pensive (Detar, Lunn)
  • Pop Weaver (Koschik)
  • Seasons In The Field (Weyandt, Cogdell, Peck) – Recorded a split with Pensive.
  • Society's Finest (Ashworth)
  • States of Melba (Cogdell, Peck) (20012006, 2008) – Predated by the band Los Capitanos. According to the band's official website, they have released a demo. The band is booked to play a benefit show in April 2008; it is unknown whether the gig is a one-time reunion or not.
  • Symphony in Peril (Jonas) – Released two full-length albums on Facedown Records before breaking up in 2005. They played their final show on November 25th, 2005.
  • The American Spectator (Smith) – Two-drummer project; also featured the Clark brothers from Demon Hunter and Training for Utopia as well as Sean Ingram and James Dewees of Coalesce. Never released any material.
  • The Double Whammy Butt Burrito Brigade (Gretz)
  • The Ghost Hospital (Weyandt) (2006–) – Weyandt plays drums in this Pittsburgh-based band, which offers a "total instrumental stoner vibe."
  • The Juliana Theory (Detar, Walters) (19972006) – A diverse, alt rock and indie quintet from Greensburg and Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

  • The Underwater (Smith) – Smith briefly filled the drummer position
  • They That Kill Their Masters (Weyandt) – Grindcore project active during a brief time in which Weyandt was not in Zao
  • Through the Eyes of Katelyn (Smith) – Recorded one album for Takehold Records.
  • Times After Dusk(Goudy) – Folk rock acoustic indie album released in August of 2006.
