List of Tokyo Mew Mew chapters
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a complete list of chapters of the manga series Tokyo Mew Mew, which is written by Reiko Yoshida and illustrated by Mia Ikumi. First serialized in Nakayoshi between September 2000 and February 2003, the series follows the adventures of five girls who are infused with the DNA of rare animals. This gives them ability to transform into Mew Mews, changing their appearances and giving them special powers. Lead by Ichigo Momomiya, the girls must protect the earth from a group of aliens who wish to "reclaim it" and their Chimera Anima creations.
The chapters have been compiled into seven collected volumes by Kodansha. The first volume was released on February 1, 2001, with the final volume released April 4, 2003.[1] Tokyo Mew Mew was adapted into a fifty-two episode anime series by Studio Pierrot that was broadcast on TV Aichi and TV Tokyo in Japan from April 6, 2002 until March 29, 2003.[2] In April 2003, a sequel to the manga series, Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode, premiered in Nakayoshi. Running until February 2004 and written only by Mia Ikumi, the sequel was published as two volumes and features a new character, Berry Shirayuki, who is infused with the DNA of both a rabbit and a cat and becomes the new temporary leader of the Mew Mews, in the absence of Ichigo, to fight a new threat, the Saint Rose Crusaders.[3]
Tokyo Mew Mew and Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode are licensed for an English language release in North America by Tokyopop. The first volume of the man series was released on April 8, 2003, with volumes released every other month until the seventh volume was published on May 11, 2004. The two volumes of Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode were published the next year, with the first volume released on June 7, 2005 and the second on December 8, 2006.[1] Unlike with the Japanese released, in the Tokyopop volumes each of the chapters have been given names.[4][5] Both series are licensed for an English language release in Singapore by Chuang Yi. Carlsen Comics has licensed the series, though its regional divisions, for German, Danish, and Swedish releases.[6] The series is also licensed for regional language releases in French by Pika Édition and in Polish by Japonica Polonica Fantastica.[1] Tokyo Mew Mew was also one of the first manga series released in Spanish in North America by Public Square Books.[7]

While visiting an endangered species exhibit with her crush, Masaya Aoyama, Ichigo Momomiya meets a "snobby" girl. As they talk outside, the two girls spot a third girl with glasses being picked on and go to her aid, joined by a young athletic girl, and a beautiful older girl. An earthquake strikes and the five girls are bathed in a strange light. Ichigo sees an Iriomote wildcat floating in front of her and it merges with her. When she wakes up, she's alone with Masaya. The next day, Ichigo finds that she is always sleeping, can fall from heights and land on her feet, and craves fish. In the afternoon, she goes with Masaya to clean fish from a river and they are attacked by a giant rat. Masaya is knocked out trying to protect Ichigo. A boy named Ryou Shirogane rescues her then tells her she must beat the monster. Ichigo suddenly transforms in Mew Ichigo, growing cat ears and a cat tail with a bell and defeats the monster. Afterwards, Ryou explains that the monster was a Kimera Anima,[8] an animal infected by an alien and that she is there new biological weapon, a Mew Mew, to defeat them and return the animals to normal. Another guy appears, Keiichiro Akasaka, and they take Ichigo to Cafe Mew Mew, which is their base of operations. Ichigo is instructed to find the other four like her, who all carry marks like the one that has appeared on her leg. Ichigo wonders if Mint Aizawa, the snobby girl, is a Mew Mew as well and sneaks into Mint's house to investigate. While she is there, Mint's dog Mickey is changed into a Kimera Anima and Ichigo has to transform in front of the confused Mint to fight it. During the fight, Ichigo spots the Mew Mew mark on Mint, who is infused with the genes of the Ultramarine Lorikeet. With encouragement from Ichigo, Mint is able to transform and they are able to defeat the monster and return Mickey to normal. Later, Ryou and Keiichiro have Ichigo and Mint start working at the Mew Mew Cafe as waitresses, to help them gather information and find the other three girls. Lettuce Midorikawa, the girl being picked on at the museum, comes with the girls who were picking on them and they discuss a ghost at their school's pool. Ichigo and Mint go to investigate that night, but the ghost turns out to be Lettuce. Infused with the genes of the finless porpoise, Lettuce is terrified of what has happened to her and confused about her new powers, and attacks the other two Mew Mews. Ichigo and Mint are able to calm her down and help her realize that rather than losing friends, her new powers have helped her gain some. Lettuce joins them as a Mew Mew and begins working at the cafe. While on another date with a strangely distant Masaya, Ichigo gets excited to realize he's nervous and her cat ears pop out. They are seen by the young athletic girl from the museum, but before Ichigo can explain, an alien named Kish appears and kisses Ichigo.

After teasing Ichigo about his kissing her, Kish unleashes parasites on the animals at the carnival, turning them into Kimera Animas. Ichigo is pinned by a lion Kimera Anima and Kish is preparing to kill her when Mew Mint and Mew Lettuce come to her rescue and enable her to transform. The threesome quickly deal with the Kimera Animas, but as soon as they do, the parasites jump into other animals. Mew Ichigo is almost stomped by an elephant, but the young girl pushes her out of the way. She transforms into Mew Pudding, having the tail of her infused animal the golden lion tamarin. She uses her powers to trap all of the Kimera Animas into her Pudding Ring, enabling them to finally defeat the parasites. Kish promises to come see Ichigo again before disappearing. After the others leave, Masaya yells at Ichigo for disappearing when they should have been evacuating, but as they leave, he notices she's lost her choker and ties a cat's ribbon with a bell around her neck calling her his "all-time favorite kitty" much to Ichigo's delight. The girls realize that model Zakuro Fujiwara must be the fifth Mew Mew, as she was the last girl who was with them at the museum when they were first turned into Mew Mews. They go to an open audition to meet her, where Kimera Animas attack. Zakuro is the first to notice them and transforms into Mew Zakuro, with the ears and tale of her animal, the gray wolf. The girls are excited to have found the last one, but Zakuro coldly rejects them saying she prefers to be alone. Ryou gives Ichigo the R2000 robot that recovers the alien parasites, so Ichigo renames him to Masha. Mint is depressed about her idol Zakuro's reaction, so Ichigo, Mint, and Lettuce go to her house and cheer her up. While the others sleep, Ichigo goes outside after hearing a noise and is grabbed by Kish. Mint and the others come to her aid, but as he leaves Kish says they are going to get rid of Zakuro first. They quickly head to the studio where Zakuro is appearing on a talk show, but they struggle to fight the stronger Kimera Anima attacking. Zakuro transforms to join them, and when she does, Mew Ichigo gets a stronger attack power that is able to finish the monster. The girls realize the cameras are still filming and that their fight has been televised live, so they introduce themselves as Tokyo Mew Mew. Afterwards, Zakuro agrees to be part of the team. With the five gather, Ryou and Keiichiro tell the girls explain more about the alien invasion and that to revert to normal, they must defeat them all by collecting mew aquas. Kish sends a Kimera Anima Inohara Park, where Masaya is doing research. The Mew Mews quickly arrive and deal with Kimera Anima, but as Ichigo prepares to leave with the others, Masaya calls out her name as if he knows she is Mew Ichigo.

Afraid he knows her identity, Ichigo avoids Masaya. Kish is put under "house arrest" for his failure to defeat the Mew Mews, so another alien, Pie, goes to Tokyo to send out Kimera Animas while a third, Tart, teases Kish. At school, Masaya corners Ichigo, but they are attacked by a Kimera Anima. At Masaya's insistence, Ichigo runs out of side then quickly transforms into Mew Ichigo. After she defeats the monster, Masaya says she looks like someone he knows and asks who she is. She answers Mew Ichigo, then leaves. Masaya goes out into the hall to find Ichigo, back to normal. Glad he doesn't seem to know her secret, she is able to talk to him again. Ryou and Keiichiro treat the girls to a paid working vacation on a cruise ship. That night during a formal party, Ryou asks Ichigo to dance. She is confused to find she likes dancing with him and she runs off blushing. Pie sends a Kimera Anima to attack the ship. The Mew Mews attack, but during the fight the monster grabs a small boy and takes him into the water. Though she can't swim, Lettuce jumps in to save the child. When she goes into the water, her legs turn into a dolphin's tail. Kish is taken off house arrest and the three aliens wonder when their leader, "Deep Blue", will awaken to help them reclaim Earth, which was once their home. While out on a date with Masaya, he and Ichigo run into Ryou making Masaya jealous. It starts to rain and he puts his coat over Ichigo, then hugs her. Ichigo runs off realizing that she's getting too excited but is horrified to discover that she has changed into a small black cat. Masaya finds her and takes her home, thinking she's a stray, but his dog chases her out of the house. Ryou finds her and explains that her cat genes are taking over so they must hurry to defeat the aliens or she may end up being a cat permanently. Ichigo gets separated from him when she chases a dangling keychain on a passing girl's bookbag. The other four Mew Mews have to go investigate a strange cocoon near the town's radio tower, however their attacks are useless against it and they are easily defeated by Kish, Pie and Tart. Kish stops Tart from killing them, though, and they leave. Masaya finds Ichigo, in cat form, and takes her back to his house. After he goes to sleep, Ichigo kisses him which causes her to change back into a human. Being beside the sleeping Masaya, she gets so excited that she turns back into a cat. She leaves to go home, but is trapped by a very large male cat who tries to kiss her. Another cat, similar in size to Ichigo, saves her then kisses her turning her back into a human, confirming to her that any kiss will change her back. After a brief run in with Tart, Ichigo finds Ryou who explains what happened with the girls and apologizes for the situation she's in with her cat genes. As they walk, he asks if the kissing works in reverse, and if she will turn into a cat if she kisses someone while in human form. He then asks her to kiss him.

Just as he's about to kiss her, Ryou teases her that being excited is what turns her into a cat, not kissing. Embarrassed, Ichigo runs home. At school the next day, she feels faint and Masaya insists on carrying her to the nurses office and they exchange cell phone numbers. That afternoon, the girls go to look for mew aqua, with Masha as a guide. When they find a mew aqua, they also find Kish. Just as they start to fight his Kimera Anima, Masaya calls Ichigo to ask her to meet him at 5 and she agrees, but then the monster eats her cell phone. They quickly defeat it, but Kish reveals it was a trap and they are attacked by Kish, Pie, and Tart. While they fight, a dust waiburn monster hatches from the cocoon on the tower, and starts spreading a pollution filled dust. Their attacks only spreads the dust, but Masha detects a real mew aqua. Mint realizes it is at the top of the tower and flies up to get it while the others distract the monster. When she finds it and gives it to Masha, Mint gets a stronger weapon that is able to clean out all of the dust. The girls combine their powers to activate Mew Ichigo's stronger attack and they destroy the waiburn. When the battle is over, it is almost eight, but Ichigo desperately runs to where she was supposed to meet Masaya. Thinking he has long since left, she starts to go home but then sees him still waiting as it starts to rain. She starts crying thinking about having to lie to him so much, but he pulls her close and tells her he loves her. Her cat ears pop out and she starts to run, but he doesn't see it them in the rain and covers her head with his jacket. She tells him she loves him too and they hug for awhile. They make plans to go on a date that Sunday. Ichigo arrives early, but then she gets turned into a cat and is attacked by the fat cat from earlier. The same cat that saved her before rescues her and after introducing himself as "Alto", he kisses her to change her back to a human. Ichigo goes to meet with Masaya and they go to the aquarium, but Kish attacks them and she loses sight of Masaya. As Mew Ichigo, she struggles to fight the Kimera Anima alone, but a blond haired, blue-eyed male who looks like an alien saves her. He introduces himself as the Blue Knight and swears to protect her.

The Blue Knight easily defeats Kish, then tells Ichigo he was born to protect her before he leaves. During the fight, Ichigo lost her bell, but Alto suddenly appears and returns it before quickly running around a corner where he turns into a human. That evening, Pudding runs out to the store to get ketchup for her five brothers and sisters, but she is captured by Pie and Tart. Before she is knocked out, she uses a Fong family trick to send An Nin, her monkey, to Ichigo to call for help. After a night of searching, Ryou tells the other four Mew Mews to go to the Tokyo Dome as there is heavy Kimera Anima activity there, so that may be where Pudding is. Pudding is under the dome with Tart, who tells her they are going to collapse the dome and kill all 50,000 people inside attending a concert. Pudding refuses to be scared of Tart who she nicknames him Tar Tar, gives a piece of candy, and calls him her buddy. Confused, Tart goes to scare the crowd and send Kimera Animas at the other Mew Mews. After dealing with the monsters, they find a tunnel under the dome and Pudding caged below. Tart reappears, so Ichigo calls him midget over and over to make him mad enough to attack her. Ichigo dodges so his attack breaks the lock and frees Pudding instead. Tart sends a large Kimera Anima after them and the Blue Knight reappears, protecting Ichigo and getting a cut on his arm. Pudding finds a Mew Aqua, allowing her to use the Ribbon Aqua Drops cleansing spell. The spell causes trees to grow all around the dome to hold it in place. Tart leaves, complaining about his loss, but then chuckling when he looks down at the candy Pudding gave him. The next day, Ichigo and Masaya go on a picnic lunch, but Kish attacks in the middle. After Masaya is hurt trying to protect her, Ichigo is forced to transform into Mew Ichigo to deal with Kish. The Blue Knight joins her and badly wounds Kish. Kish asks him to kill him, which the Blue Knight starts to do, but Ichigo stops him. Pie and Tart take Kish back and the Blue Knight leaves. Ichigo spots Masaya behind her and changes back, crying while trying to explain. Masaya kisses her and tells her he already had figured out that she was Mew Ichigo and was only pretending not to know because it was what she seemed to want. She explains about her ears popping out and her turning into a cat when she is really excited, but Masaya just laughs and promises to hide her ears. Later, she gets excited and turns into a cat, and kisses Masaya to turn back not realizing Tart was watching. He waits until Ichigo changes into a cat again and attacks, but Alto appears and kisses her so she can change to Mew Ichigo. After sending Tart running, Ichigo grabs Alto to examine an injury he gets in the fight. He struggles to escape then suddenly transforms into Ryou.

Ichigo is shocked to realize Masaya is now Deep Blue. Unable to think or move, she sits in a trance as Deep Blue attacks the others. The other Mew Mews realize they must fight Masaya, but when they start their attack, Ichigo stands in front of Deep Blue and attacks them instead. Realizing she's hurt her friends, Ichigo rushes over to check them and Mint slaps her to calm her down. After the other Mew Mews remind her that if they don't stop him, Deep Blue will kill everyone in the world. Deep Blue knocks out the other Mew Mews and nearly kills Ichigo but Alto appears and takes the blow for her. He changes back to Ryou from the injury, and Ryou also reminds her that the world chose her for a reason and that she is still a Mew Mew. Determined, and certain that Masaya would understand why she has to fight, Ichigo stands and pledges to protect the Earth and its people. Before the final battle begins, they learn the last mew aqua is in the air above Tokyo. The other Mew Mews battle Pie and Tart while Ichigo goes after the mew aqua. The Mew Mews defeat Pie and Tart, but collapse afterwards. Ichigo finds the mew aqua, but Deep Blue is also there. He attacks her, but Kish appears and protects her, saying he must protect the girl he loves. He challenges Deep Blue to a duel, but Deep Blue fatally wounds him. He dies in a crying Ichigo arms, telling her he loves her and is glad he could be held by her as he goes. Killing Kish enabled Masaya to awaken in Deep Blue's body and he calls out to Ichigo. He holds her and tells her he has a plan, but Deep Blue regains control and tries to destroy the Masaya personality within him. Masaya is able to encase Ichigo in a protective bubble. Telling Ichigo he loves her one more time, Masaya releases the mew aqua inside Deep Blue, killing both Deep Blue and himself. With the mew aqua released, Tokyo is completely healed, as are all of the mew mews and the aliens. Heartbroken, Ichigo cries over Masaya's body, then transfers all of her power to him. Masaya wakes up and returns to the ground where the others are, carrying Ichigo's dead body. At first the other Mew Mews think she's asleep, but then realize she isn't breathing. As they, Kish, and Ryou worry, Masaya kisses Ichigo. More mew aqua is released and Ichigo returns to normal and is revived. The aliens return to their own world, with Kish telling Ichigo he will be happy as long as he knows she will be happy. Ryou gives Pie the rest of the mew aqua to use to rejuvenate their world so they won't need to come back to Earth. Afterwards, Masaya decides to study abroad to learn more about the Red Data animals that enabled the girls to become Mew Mews and work to save them from extinction. Seeing Ichigo is sad over the thought of being separated from Masaya, other girls set up a mock wedding for Masaya and Ichigo. |
