  • Spot, Eddie's pet dragon who lives under the stairs. It has bright eyes, and is always spouting fire. Apparently, Herman is afraid of it, but Eddie is not, and he is seen always docile when Eddie is around. Often sometimes, he goes out of his lair, but only its tail can be seen.
  • the raven (voiced by Mel Blanc and occasionally Bob Hastings), a raven who lives in the Munsters' cuckoo clock and repeats the word "Nevermore". It is Herman's target when he's angered, causing Herman to throw objects at him on ocassions.

[edit] Recurring characters

[edit] Dr. Dudley

Edward Howard Dudley, M.D., is the Munsters' family doctor. Dr. Dudley is one of the few characters who has had to learn to tolerate the Munsters. Portrayed by Paul Lynde, Dr. Dudley is extremely nearsighted (and sometimes prefers to have his glasses off when examining members of the family). His secretary and nurse is Ms. Fairchild (played by Alice Backes). Dr. Dudley and his wife (Marilyn Lovell) have a son, Elmer Dudley (Peter Robbins), who becomes Eddie's playmate. Paul Lynde only appeared in three episodes of The Munsters and was replaced by Dom DeLuise in "Just Another Pretty Face".

[edit] Mr. Gateman

Mr. Gateman (whose first name is never given) is the undertaker in charge of the Gateman, Goodbury, and Graves funeral home (while the name indicates three owners, the company appears to be a sole proprietorship). Played by John Carradine, he is Herman Munster's boss.

Mr. Gateman is the only ordinary human who is not taken aback by the Munsters' appearance and habits. On two occasions, Mr. Gateman fires Herman, the first time when Herman asks for raise. Lily helps Herman to get his old job back by convincing Mr. Gateman of Herman's value to the company. The second time is after Herman invites him over for dinner and has Eddie play jazz on his trumpet, of which Mr. Gateman disapproves. He reluctantly has a change of heart and rehires Herman.

[edit] Clyde Thornton

Clyde Thornton is Herman's coworker at the funeral home, portrayed by Chet Stratton. When first introduced, Clyde is continuously tricking and ridiculing Herman into one of his practical jokes until Herman finally stands up to him and Clyde gets caught in one of his own traps. After settling their differences, in "Cyrano De Munster", Clyde uses Herman's poems to woo the girl of his dreams. When she finds out that Clyde is not the one writing the poems, she rejects him and goes after Herman. After discovering Herman, the girl screams and runs away. Angry at seeing his dream girl so emotional, Clyde punches Herman in the jaw and breaks his hand.

[edit] Mrs. Cribbins

Mrs. Yolanda "Yo-yo" Cribbins is the Munsters' neighborlady. Generally speaking, when the Munsters' refer to a neighbor it is Mrs. Cribbins. Played by Claire Carleton, Mrs. Cribbins is a fiftyish widow who lives in the house to the left of the Munsters'. Mrs. Cribbins has built a barbed wire fence between her yard and the Munsters, and unlike some of the Munsters' other neighbors, Mrs. Cribbins knows very little about them. In "My Fair Munster" Mrs. Cribbins drinks a philtre concocted by Grandpa and falls in love with the mailman, Warren Bloom (John Fiedler).
