This is a list of characters from the Japanese manga and anime series Soul Eater. The series primarily revolves around students classified as meisters (職人 shokunin?) at the Shinigami Weapon Meister Vocational School (死神武器職人専門学校 Shinigami Buki Shokunin Senmon Gakkō?), or Shibusen (死武専?) for short. The school is run by Shinigami, the God of Death himself, as a training facility for weapons and the human wielders of those weapons, the meisters. Three meister-weapon partnerships are made a focus of the series; all are students at Shibusen. Maka Albarn is Soul Eater's meister; Black Star is Tsubaki's meister; and Death the Kid is Patty's and Liz's meister and Shinigami's son. Other students from Shibusen are later introduced who include Ox Ford as Harvar's meister, Kilik Lunge as Pot of Fire's and Pot of Thunder's meister, and Kim Diehl as Jacqueline's meister. Another meister, Chrona, is introduced as an antagonist with her weapon Ragnarök. All weapons are capable of switching between a human and weapon form. They can change a part of their body into a weapon for quick kills which used when they are close to their target. Most weapons have the same goal: to become the next "death scythe" for the Shinigami.
Shinigami cannot leave Shibusen, so he has his Death Scythes from around the world attempt to maintain peace, especially after the revival of the kishin Asura. Shinigami's personal Death Scythe is Maka's father named Death Scythe, though he was formally known as Spirit. Other Death Scythes introduced in Soul Eater include Justin Law in charge of Europe, Marie Mjolnir formally in charge of Oceania, and Yumi Azusa in charge of both East Asia and Oceania while Marie is working as a teacher at Shibusen. The teachers of Shibusen are in charge of teaching the meisters everything they needed to know in the field of souls and collecting them. Members of the staff include a powerful scientist named Franken Stein who likes to dissect living things, a zombie named Sid Barett, and Sid's weapon partner Mira Nygus. Another ally of Shibusen is Blair, a cat with high magical powers initially mistaken to be a witch by Maka and Soul who later comes to hang around Maka and Soul at their apartment.
Witches in Soul Eater play a main role as primary antagonists and general enemies of Shibusen and Shinigami. Considered dangerous by most people, most witches are only interested in self-gain, no matter who gets in their way. Many of the witches are also interested in creating and waking kishin (demon god), such as Samantha, Medusa, and Arachne. The leader of all witches is Mabaa, but there are witches who go against her, such as Arachne. Most powerful witches have an animal theme which is shown by their hat, their face, or by the appearance of their spells. Medusa coerces the witches Eruka Frog and the members of the Mizune witch family to help her in her personal goals. Medusa also gets help from an immortal wizard named Free. Arachne, Medusa's older sister, has been labeled as a heretic by other witches and gets help primarily from the humans members of her organization Arachnophobia. Others that help Arachne include the demon chainsaw weapon Giriko, and an old wizard named Mosquito who is Arachne's butler.
Evil humans whose souls have the potential to become kishin are often hunted down by Shibusen students. Many of these humans are based on real historical figures, although they do not resemble them much. One of the humans named Mifune is not evil, but he protects a young witch named Angela until she can grow up and be able to protect herself since he likes kids. Mifune is very powerful, and he joins Arachnophobia so as to further protect Angela.

[edit] Meisters
[edit] Shibusen students
- Maka Albarn (マカ・アルバーン Maka Arubān?)
- Voiced by: Junko Takeuchi (drama CD), Chiaki Omigawa (anime)
- Maka is Soul's meister. She is the more level-headed of the two but when her anger gets the better of her, she will put her foot down. Where Soul seems to be the brawn, Maka is the brain. She always tries to think of a way to beat their opponent by exploiting the opponent's weaknesses. Her father is the Shingami's current death scythe, she seems to hate her father for constantly flirting with other women but she still loves him. Her mother was also a scythe meister; she and Maka's father are divorced. Maka seems to be annoyed at the fact that her body has not developed yet (which is the center of some jokes in the series). She usually kicks Soul after he does something perverted or if he and Blair have been acting too friendly. Dr. Stein saw her soul and told her she was a "serious person who tries hard". Maka may have feelings for Soul due the fact she became extremely depressed when Soul was injured while trying to protect her, and get very upset when Blair flirts with him. Maka starts to develop black blood due to Soul's body being invaded by Ragnarök's black blood. She first awakens this power by facing off against Chrona underneath the school. In this form, Maka is battle-crazed and incredibly powerful, more so than Chrona. Later in their fight, she begins to understand Chrona's wavelength more, and realizes that Chrona has never had physical contact. Their fight ends with Maka asking to become Chrona's friend.
- Attacks: All of Maka's attacks so far are used together with Soul.
- Witch Hunter: A technique used by scythe meister's. It is used by Maka and Soul resonating their soul's to focus more power into their strikes.
- Hexagonal Hunter: A powerful slash using the Witch Hunt technique.
- Attack of the Six: A rotating slash with a six shape after image.
- Attack of the U: A crescent slash brought from below and drags the blade upward in the shape of a U after image.
- Maka Chop: This attack is used without the help of Soul Eater. It is similar to Shinigami's Direct Noggin Shinigami Chop but with the use of a book. Its purpose is solely for comedic relief and is usually used to discipline Soul Eater or any other male that steps out of line.
- Demon Hunter: A more powerful form of Witch Hunt. Maka used it in the fight with The Clown during an assignment with Death The Kid.
- Whirlwind Cut: When using this attack Soul collects the soul wavelength around him then sends it back, the downside of this attack is that it is indiscriminate attack so it can't be used in team missions.
- Straight Hunter: An energy shockwave that cuts in a straight line, used with Demon Hunter.
- Black Star (ブラック☆スター Burakku☆Sutā?)
- Voiced by: Yumiko Kobayashi (drama CD/anime)
- He is Tsubaki's meister. He comes from a family of ninjas (The Star Clan), which explains the star on his shoulder. He uses ninja tactics. His biggest weakness is that he is a total show-off and thinks that he is some kind of star, which he happily proclaims, defeating the purpose of the ninja arts. The few times he uses his ninja stealth is when he peeps on Tsubaki (which normally ends up with him yelling and showing his whereabouts upon seeing Tsubaki's nude body) when she is bathing, or when he finally takes the fight seriously. His delusion of stardom is so great that he constantly gives out autographs that nobody wants. Black Star hates it when someone gets more attention then him and will show them who the real star is. He is also able to use his soul wavelength in hand-to-hand combat. Dr. Stein stated the painfully obvious when he said Black Star's was "a terribly self-absorbed soul". Black Star comes from a long line of assassins know as the Clan of the Star, and they would do anything for money, making them enemies in various places. Due to their actions, thirteen years ago, the entire clan was exterminated by Shibusen, while Black Star, just a newborn then, was taken in by Shibusen. Despite this, Black Star bears no malice over this, but thanks to his clan, when people the clan attacked notice the tattoo on his right shoulder they will chase him out by any means. His favorite number is one, most likely because he considers himself to be number one. Due to a few of defeats he's received Black Star has started to doubt his skills and seems to have become obsessed with gaining power (like his father White Star that became a kishin because of it).
- Attacks: Black Star has attacks he can use with and without Tsubaki, which makes him more versatile then other meisters.
- Shield Star: By using Soul Resonance with Tsubaki in Scythe Chain form he creates a shield for defense.
- Trap Star: By placing the chain of Tsubaki's Scythe Chain form in a star shape on the ground anything that enters will by sensed by Black Star and bound in the chains before they can escape.
- Speed Star: Created by Black Star to move at highs speeds (mostly for dodging attacks).
- Shadow Star: This can only be used with Tsubaki's Demon Blade form, it grants a boost of speed and power while a Shadow Puppet is in front of Black Star to attack anything in the way. (This attack covers Black Star with tattoos). In the manga, it has been revealed that extended use of this technique is slowly killing him, but he refuses to accept this.
- Hissatsu Kokusei Big Wave:(Deadly Black Star Big Wave)A powerful attack that requires Black Star to use a fighting style similar to Dr. Stein's Soul Purge. Initially it starts with a elbow strike to stun the enemy, then a powerful punch which sends a large amount of soul energy through the opponents body. This technique was first used on Mifune by of which he was defeated.
- Shadow Star - Endgame Cleave: While using Shadow Star, he combines a dash with with a multi-hit slashing combination.
- Death The Kid (デス・ザ・キッド Desu Za Kiddo?)
- Voiced by: Takako Honda (drama CD), Mamoru Miyano (anime)
- He is Patty and Liz's meister and the Shinigami's son. He is called Kid by his friends and family. He suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder, which is represented as a completely obsession about everything being symmetrical and takes the idea of perfection to the extremes. To him, anything symmetrical is beautiful and if it is off by any measurement (a picture frame off by millimeter, or a pose that is slightly out of place), he will try to correct it right away, even if the situation calls for utmost attention. The biggest problem Kid has with is his hair one side being completely black while the other has three white strips going across it. Showing Kid anything that is too unsymmetrical or mentioning his hair will send him into a state of massive depression (which normally takes encouragement from Patty and Liz to break).
- He refers to Shinigami as chichiue (父上 ?, honorable father). His father has mentioned that Kid is a shinigami and does not need to collect souls but Kid says he wants to make a weapon of his own. His father also says that since he uses two weapons (the guns do not count as a set), he will have to collect twice as many souls (198 human souls and two witch souls). It is mentioned by Maka that it is normally hard to match soul wavelengths with more than one weapon, but Kid is able to do so because he, Liz, and Patty have a mutual admiration for each other. Kid admires Patty and Liz's positive souls due to his negative personality. If he sees anything perfect or symmetrical get broken or destroyed, it will send him into a blind rage where he will unload all of his power to erase the offensive sight from his eyes. He has a flight-capable skateboard called Beelzebub, which he uses as a form of short distance transportation, though it could be used for long distance as well, as seen to be used for flying to Egypt. His favorite number is eight because it is symmetrical.
- As he was born a Shinigami, Kid's potential power is - technically - far above that of his fellow Shibusen students. However, the details of Kid's, or his father's, nature as Shinigami have not been revealed. So, it's hard to speculate on exactly what both are capable of as the only 'gods of death' in series. We know that both share a skull motif (in Shinigami's mask and Kid's rings) and dark, vaguely monstrous, shadows appear around them when either use their abilities, such as Shinigami attacking Asura and Kid using Soul Resonance.
- Attacks: Kid fights using a form of Gun-Kata, though, for some reason, he usually holds the guns upside-down (while pulling the triggers with his pinkies). Also, he will not fight until he has both Liz and Patty with him so the style is symmetrical.
- Death God Martial Art, Stance of Sin: This fighting style is Kid's normal style but without using Liz and Patty and therefore focuses on chops, kicks, and hammer blows (all of which can be symmetrical)
- Death Ride: Not really an attack it is Kid doing a rail slide with his skateboard.
- Dark Needle: A seldom seen attack of Kid's that one of his most powerful. A giant black blast that leaves behind a series of skull-shaped smoke.
- Tornado Flip: Kid launches his skateboard, spinning, at an opponent possibly cutting them in half. Not much is known as it was only used to save Patty and Liz once when they were being constricted by the Pharaoh of Wrath.
- Death Cannon: Kid's Soul Resonance attack. When activated, Kid's lower arms are covered with metal and resemble cannon barrels. Three black spikes come out of each of the upper arms. He then charges his attack and fires two giant blasts of energy from the cannons that impact with the opponent, leaving behind a series of skull shaped smoke.
- Ox Ford (オックス・フォード Okkusu Fōdo?)
- Ox is one of the top students at Shibusen in terms of grades and is Harvar's meister. He is named after Oxford University. He calls himself the "Skilled General Lighting King" a fact that annoys Black Star because they are two different titles 'King' and 'General'.
- Attacks: His attacks focus on using Harvar's lighting powers on contact.
- Lightning King: After stabbing the enemy Harvar will shock them.
- Lightning King Spear: A anti-air thrusting technique that moves the user in the motion of a lightning bolt.
- Lightning King Quake: A anti-ground long-range technique that erupts lightning from below the enemy.
- Kilik Lunge (キリク・ルング Kiriku Rungu?)
- Kilik is a pot meister and is often teamed up with Ox for missions. Kilik uses a pair of twins as his weapons, Pot of Fire and Pot of Thunder. Though termed "pots", they resemble large gloves in their weapon form. Out of weapon form they resemble to small girls with blue eyes.
- Attacks: His attacks emphasize on the raw punching power of his elemental pots
- Lightning Flash: Using soul resonance with the Pot of Thunder, Kilik chops through the enemy.
- Triple F (Flame Flint Fist): Using soul resonance with the Pot of Fire, Kilik hits with a right straight punch.
- Aphex Twin: Using soul resonance with both Pot of Thunder and Pot of Fire, Kilik combines a fireball and lightning together and smashes his palms into the enemy.
- Kim Diehl (キム・ディール Kimu Dīru?)
- Kim is a lamp meister and partner to Jacqueline. She is the object of Ox's affections but she constantly turns him down. Kim is obsessed with making money. Kim and her weapon are allied with the Arachnophobia, a group that serves the witch Arachne, though this is not entirely be her choice. It is reveled that Kim is a witch that wanted to get away from the witch assembly and the witch's lifestyle and thus became a student. Her partner knows she is a witch, but sticks by her all the way.
- Attacks: Her techniques initiate through transformation before it functions.
- Change Pixy: It transforms Jacqueline into a rocket-powered broom allowing her flight capabilities.
[edit] Shinigami and Shibusen staff
- Shinigami (死神?)
- Voiced by: Ryusuke Ōbayashi (drama CD), Rikiya Koyama (anime)
- Shinigami, referred to with the suffix sama as a term of respect, is the grim reaper himself. He is by far the most powerful character in the series. He is a bit of a joker but when the time comes, he is all business. His number to call him through a window is 42-42-564 (shini-shini-goroshi), which literally means die-die-kill (死に死に殺し) in Japanese. He has a special move called a "Direct Noggin Shinigami Chop" (which is normally shown when the Shinigami shows his hand, which is a large flat four fingered hand appearing from his robe). This move was used on kishin when he was revived, it also seemed to do substantial damage as kishin was immediately thrown to the ground after being chopped. He constantly has to put up with Death Scythe's antics when it comes to Maka or her progress. He seems to take on a more playful attitude when talking with his son (he says he likes his son's three white strips), but at the same time thinks he can be quite the hand full and is glad that Patty and Liz look after him. Shinigami's soul wavelength is so large that it could cover an entire city. It is explained that the Shinigami sealed the first kishin and the seal is the reason he cannot leave Death City. He confronted kishin (Asura) when he was revived. He was fairly injured when kishin used his vajra attack (which blasted a hole in Shinigami) and could not stop kishin from escaping due to his movement range being limited.
- Sid Barett (死人(シド)・バレット Shido Baretto?)
- Voiced by: Susumu Akagi (drama CD), Masafumi Kimura (anime)
- A man who died and turned into a zombie. The rumors of the school said he got the idea of absolute freedom stuck in his head and started attacking students to show them the amount of freedom dying has brought him. When they found Sid in the graveyard, he fought them by using his own gravestone as a substitute weapon to great effect. It was shown that Dr. Stein turned him into a zombie and thus was targeted by the Maka and Black Star's teams as part of their remedial lessons. It was later revealed to be a trick set up by Shinigami and Dr. Stein to show the students how to see and use soul energy (only Maka could see it after the assignment). Since then, Sid acts as a spy to get information on the witches and their plans. He constantly talks about how he has always been "that kind of man" (when he was alive) and the things he could not do when he was alive but now can since he's a zombie. During his time when he was alive, Sid was a three star meister and a knife meister. His job was taken over by Dr. Stein. He still goes to the school to help the student and teachers in any way he can. Sid's reason for helping the school is that it is what he would have done when he was alive. He is named after Syd Barrett.
- Attacks: Sid uses his own gravestone as a weapon or Nygus in her knife form. He is also capable of using Azusa to make sniper attacks.
- Living Dead: Sid's signature attack that creates a cross shaped explosion on contact.
- Compulsive Burial: Sid drives his knife into the ground which causes coffins to appear below a person and act as an escape route.
- Franken Stein (フランケン・シュタイン Furanken Shutain?)
- Voiced by: Mitsuru Miyamoto (drama CD), Yuya Uchida (anime)
- Dr. Franken Stein is the man that changes Sid into a zombie. He is based on Frankenstein's monster from Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein. He was Death Scythe's first partner (Maka's mother was the second). He was the most powerful meister to ever graduate from Shibusen. He has a bolt going through his head which turns so his thoughts would be on the matter at hand and stitches all over his body and clothes. Stein is such a strong fighter that he can take down Black Star while still seated in his chair. Stein sees everything in the world, including himself, as an experiment or specimen. He even experimented on Death Scythe when he was sleeping during the five years they worked together.
- His understanding of soul wavelengths gives him a huge advantage against other users since he can change his own to match the other's wavelength and thereby nullify or disrupt the soul wavelength of the meister and weapon. This comes from his high spiritual flexibility and by observing his opponent beforehand. His soul wavelength is so high that he does not need a weapon and can channel it through his body and release it as an electric discharge. He has a strange hobby of wanting to dissect anything he thinks is interesting, and once as part of a lesson tried to have his class dissect an endangered animal claiming that it would be bad if he did not find out anything from it before it became extinct.
- After he tries to kill Medusa, and the kishin revives, Stein mentions that the kishin's wavelength brings out the insanity in everyone. He himself notices that since his own insanity is extremely large already, this effect could come to his insanity possessing him. Shinigami also sees this, and has Death Scythe watch Stein closely. Marie is assigned to be Stein's new partner as her soul wavelength is supposed to have a calming effect on the insanity. After Medusa takes the form of a little girl, she instructs Chrona to slip a snake into Marie's coffee which increases Stein's insanity wavelength, and at one time renders him unable to fight. Even without this magic, Stein is slowly losing the fight against his insanity, and he knows it. Stein is implicated as the murderer of a fellow Shibusen colleague, but Death Scythe, Nygus and Sid believe Stein is innocent and allow him to escape Shibusen with Marie to find the real culprit.
- Attacks: Dr. Stein is a genius of using Soul Wavelength so he can fight with or without a weapon.
- Soul Purge: See techniques entry
- Double Soul Purge Twin Lance: See techniques entry
- Protective Spirit Body: See techniques entry
- Witch Hunt: See techniques entry
- Soul Menace: See techniques entry
[edit] Other
- Chrona (クロナ Kurona?)
- Voiced by: Maaya Sakamoto (anime)
- Chrona is presented with having an ambiguous gender, and although hints are given to identify Chrona's gender, nothing has ever stated it exactly, though Medusa has stated that Chrona is her child. Chrona refers to him or herself with the masculine pronoun boku (僕?)—Japanese for "I", a rare occurrence among females.[1] This is due to being taught at an early age to kill and torture small animals by Medusa. Chrona is Ragnarök's meister, and is initially under Medusa's orders (and control) to take any soul they find, be it evil or good. Chrona is a very naïve and submissive person who is constantly pestered by Ragnarök in the form of noogies and threats to eat Chrona's share of food. Chrona does not like to fight (often unable to overcome any obstacles presented) but Medusa normally introduces a spell into Chrona's mind that increases Chrona's aggression. Chrona's blood has been entirely replaced with 'black blood' which both protects Chrona from physical harm and provides a degree of healing. Ragnarök, originally a normal weapon, was melted into the black blood before the transfusion, which causes their symbiotic nature. The first friend she makes is Maka, who saves her from her sense of despair and isolation when Medusa attempts to resurrect the kishin. Chrona at one point takes trial courses at Shibusen to learn the proper way to be a meister. Chrona is so negative about everything that after writing a poem, it was so depressing it managed to make Black Star, Maka, Marie, and Soul hide in a corner after reading it. Chrona is trying to adapt to interacting with more people, which may take some time because of Medusa's abusive treatment. Chrona normally stays in a corner of any room, and will cower in it if frightened. Chrona mostly interacts with others only when Maka is present, since Maka can easily tune in to Chrona's soul wavelength to be understanding and calming when needed.
- Attacks: Like Maka, all of Chrona's attack are used together with Ragnarök.
- Screech Beta : A powerful slash in the form of a mouth
- Screech Alpha: Same as the Screech Beta but launch at the enemy as a projectile with explosive results.
- Screech Gamma: A multi-slashing attack with many blood trails that release sound waves in succession.
[edit] Weapons
[edit] Shibusen students
- Soul Eater Evans (ソウル・イーター・エヴァンス Sōru Ītā Ebansu?)
- Voiced by: Sōichirō Hoshi (drama CD), Kōki Uchiyama (anime)
- Soul Eater, "Soul" to his friends, is Maka's Demon Scythe partner; his human appearance is that of a teenage boy, and his attitude is like one also. Soul's personality mostly consist of what he considers "cool". Being a "cool" guy, he almost always uses the direct approach which most of the time fails. He sometimes becomes too driven by the idea of eating souls, which leads him to bicker with Maka, but in the end they remain friends and partners. He may have feelings for her as he is "willing to die for his technician" and he also said that he really liked her (whether as a friend or something more is not known). He is also friends with Black Star because of their similar personalities, but at the same time they can't match their wavelength. His way of absorbing souls is literally eating them. He says that it's the texture, not the taste, that matters. When Dr. Stein saw his soul, he said it was that of "a twisted person with a sarcastic soul." His body has been invaded by Ragnarök's black blood, giving him an energy boost but could lead to his soul consuming Maka's if he lets it get out of control. Maka and Soul have currently awakened the Black Blood, but he managed to control it and didn't lose their mind like Chrona and Ragnarök. In the anime, a scene from a flashback suggests that Soul comes from a rich family and may be able to play the piano. In chapter thirty of the manga, Maka mentions that Soul played a "dark" song when they first met.
- Attacks: Any attack he has so far has to be done with Maka wielding him. Although, he can transform his arm into the blade part of his scythe form.
- Tsubaki Nakatsukasa (中務 椿 Nakatsukasa Tsubaki?)
- Voiced by: Mamiko Noto (drama CD), Kaori Nazuka (anime)
- She is Black Star's Dark Demon Blade partner. She can change into multiple ninja weapons (shuriken, smoke bomb, a katana [later chapters], etc). She is most of the time disheartened by Black Star's loud self but she still puts up with it because that is what she likes about him. She holds in her a fear that Black Star would abandon her for another weapon (or she might of been overstressing about Soul and Black Star's friendship). She has a very forgiving personality and always tries to help everyone even when she has no idea how to help. Tsubaki soul is "very co-operative and has a lot of space to accept people" as said by Dr. Stein. Tsubaki comes from an established family of weapons created by Arachne. She also seems to have a talent for cooking, having been complimented on a few occasions by her friends.
- Forms:
- Scythe Chain: A handheld Scythe at the end of chain.
- Shuriken: Large five point ninja throwing star
- Smoke Bomb: A bomb for making a smoke screen for escapes or diversions
- Dummy Star: Tsubaki assumes the form of Black Star to confuse the enemy
- Ninja Blade: A short ninja knife weapon
- Demon Blade/Yohtoh: The form of her brother's weapon form, a katana (This form drains a lot out of Black Star since it needs a high level of Soul Resonance to be used)
- Attacks: Any attack Tsubaki can use by herself has yet to be shown. Although she has shown the ability to change her hair into a chain or a single scythe chain.
- Patricia "Patty" Thompson (パティー(パトリシア)・トンプソン Patī (Patorishia) Tonpuson?)
- Voiced by: Miyuki Sawashiro (drama CD), Narumi Takahira (anime)
- She is one half of Death the Kid's Double Team Demon Guns. She is the younger of the two sisters, and the most naïve. Both sisters wear cowgirl (tight sleeveless shirt and cowboy hats) outfits but Patty wears puffy shorts. She has a larger bust size than her sister. She mostly speaks in a sing-song voice. Also, she acts and speaks like a little kid. (She answers test questions in yellow crayon and says "hullo" and "sowwy", like how a child says "hello" and "sorry", etc.). She is so naïve that she thinks everything is all fun and games. She has yet to take anything seriously, though she has been shown to have a temper. Unlike her sister, Patty enjoys the drama brought on by Kid's perfectionist attitude, though she does cheer him up when he gets down on himself about it. If Kid is not with them, she can use her sister's weapon form and vice versa. She and her sister collect souls in the magazines of their gun forms. She and her sister used to live on the streets of Brooklyn before being found by Kid. Both Patty and Liz admire Kid's dignified soul, due to the fact that they are from the streets.
- Attacks: Though more powerful when used by Kid (due to the sisters' transmitting his powerful wavelength), Patty can be used as a gun while Liz is in human form, and vice-versa. (Shown in episode 3)
- Elizabeth "Liz" Thompson (リズ(エリザベス)・トンプソン Rizu (Erizabesu) Tonpuson?)
- Voiced by: Yūko Kaida (drama CD), Akeno Watanabe (anime)
- She is the other half of Death the Kid's Double Team Demon Guns. She is the older of the two sisters and the most mature. Both sisters wear cowgirl outfits (tight sleeveless shirts and cowboy hats) but Liz wears long jeans. She has a smaller bust size than her sister, which annoys her to no end. While Patty is very child-like, Liz is more like a teenage girl (worried about make up, shopping, etc). If Kid is not with them, she can use her sister's weapon form and vice versa. She and her sister collect souls in the magazines of their gun forms. Kid's obsession with symmetry and how he'll sometimes let it control his life sometimes gets on her nerves. She and her sister used to live on the streets of Brooklyn before being found by Kid. Both Liz and Patty admire Kid's dignified soul due to the fact that they are from the streets.
- Attacks: As with Patty, Liz performs most attacks being used by Kid, but can also be used in weapon form by her sister.
- Harvar D. Éclair (ハーバー・ド・エクレール Hābā Do Ekurēru?)
- Harvar is Ox's weapon and takes the form of a lance. In weapon form, he has the power of lightning. Like Ox, he is named after a university (in this case, Harvard). His last name is derived from the French word for lightning.
- Jacqueline O. Lantern Dupré (ジャクリーン・オー・ランタン・デュプレ Jakuriin Ō Rantan Dupure?)
- Jacqueline is Kim's partner and takes the form of lamp. In weapon form, she spews fire and can extend to resemble a broom usable for flying. Jacqueline's name is derived from jack-o-lanterns and the renown English cellist, Jacqueline Mary du Pré.
[edit] Death Scythes
- Death Scythe (デス・サイズ Desu Saizu?), formerly Spirit (スピリット Supiritto?)
- Voiced by: Hiroaki Hirata (drama CD), Tōru Ōkawa (anime)
- He is the Shinigami's current weapon and Maka's father, formerly known as Spirit (still called by a few people including Shinigami and Stein). He is very protective of Maka and is ready to jump to her aid any time she is in trouble, but he is always stopped by the Shinigami. His wife is Maka's mother but they are divorced now due to his constant flirting with other women. Even though he visits clubs, he is still insanely loyal to his ex-wife and daughter. He usually runs yelling about how much he loves Maka and her mother (he calls Maka's mother Mama). He is extremely sad that his daughter hates him but he still tries to be a good father by looking out for her in his own silly way.
- Spirit used to be Dr. Stein's Weapon (demon scythe form) before becoming the Shinigami's Death Scythe, and he did not realize until a long time after (thanks to the assistance of Maka's mother) that Franken had been performing experiments upon him; he still suffers nightmares about Dr. Stein trying to dissect him. In Weapon form, Spirit is a large, plain black scythe and is capable of blocking attacks dealt by Ragnarök or Medusa. So far, we have only seen Death Scythe partnered with Franken Stein, who together make a formidable team. Curiously, Spirit's 'Witch Hunter' form is different from Maka's own use of the technique, though this was possibly an adaptation under the circumstances, Death Scythe and Stein being hit by Medusa's Vector Arrow. Out of all the Death Scythes, Spirit is the only one called "Death Scythe" as a mark of his authority.
- Justin Law (ジャスティン=ロウ Jasutin Rō?)
- The Death Scythe in charge of Europe. Dressed in a priestly garb, Justin is devout in his services to the Shinigami. Justin is the youngest in Shibusen's history to become a Death Scythe at the age of thirteen. He did all of this without the aid of a partner. His weapon form, the guillotine, fits his title of "executioner". Justin has the ability to read lips but due to his constant usage of earphones and the Shinigami wearing a mask, he cannot understand the Shinigami. He tends to pray and give thanks to god for everything, and also tends to speak loudly due to his constant use of headphones. He travels by means of a dune buggy with a coffin on wheels connected to it. In the manga, he is colored with blonde hair and his hairstyle is a tonsure cut, usually worn by monks from European temples.
- Attacks:Like all weapons Justin changes parts of his body to fight.
- Holy Jūji-Shūtō (Cruciform Sword-Hand): Justin cause the guillotine blade to come out his forearm then performs two slash creating the form of a cross.
- Carcan Claw: Justin changes one of his arms into the headlock of a guillotine to grab and then attack his enemy at close range.
- Law Abiding Silver Gun: One of Justin's strongest attacks he first starts to pray to strengthen his soul wavelength then quickly dodges the enemies attack at the same time creating two pillars at his sides with him right above his enemy after which he channels his wavelength into his bladed arm then fires downward beheading his foe in the same fashion as a guillotine. He will warn others to move out of the way before using this attack.
- The prayer Justin says before his Law Abiding Silver Gun is as follows:
-
- We, the people of the city of death, beseech you, our God, as Christ is just
- Oh God, let me be an instrument of your peace
- I am a pillar of justice
- A blade of faith
- In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy spirit
- "Law Abiding Silver Gun"
- After which he will ask everyone around him to pray for his fallen foe.
- Marie Mjolnir (マリー・ミョルニル Marī Myoruniru?)
- The Death Scythe formerly in charge of Oceania. In light of the current situation concerning the resurrection of Asura, Marie's duties have been assigned to Yumi. Marie is so obsessed with the idea of marriage and retiring that she would consider marrying a toilet. Marie is partnered with Stein since her soul wavelength has a calming effect. Though her weapon form has not been revealed yet, one can assume she takes the form of a hammer based on her name and usage of electricity. Her last name is derived from the legendary hammer of Thor, Mjolnir. Her nickname is "Crushing Weapon Marie" further implying her weapon form to be a weapon for smashing. It has been implied that Dr. Stein was her first love but she has yet to comment.
- Yumi Azusa
- The Death Scythe in charge of East Asia. She comes off as being bookish and analytical, she is very respectful to all, she was the one that talked Marie out of marrying a toilet using wordplay. She was the student council president when Stein and the other Death Scythes were students, she was the person that scolded Spirit for his endless flirting and Stein's urge to dissect everything, she was said to have been a small yet talkative child. She still treats the others as little kids like a teacher would (clapping to get their attention and telling them to line up and walk in a single file line) much to the embarrassment of the others. In recent chapters it is shown that she takes the form of a bowgun, able to fire high pressure spirit shots up to 10 km accurately.
- Attacks:
- Senrigan: Not really an attack but more for mapping out and area. This allows her to see far ahead of whoever she is synchronized with, this can be used at longs distances but the more distance there is between the two the less she can see.
[edit] Others
- Ragnarök (ラグナロク Ragunaroku?)
- Voiced by: Keiji Himeno
- Ragnarök is Chrona's Demon Sword partner. Ragnarök is the first inhumane weapon introduced in Soul Eater. He loves to degrade and pester Chrona (even during fights) by giving her noogies, pinching her nose, hitting her on the head, or taking her food. When Chrona finally tells Ragnarök to stop, Ragnarök seems surprised at her reaction. Ragnarök has taken to absorbing any soul, evil or not. By taking innocent souls, Ragnarök's soul wavelength has grown out of control and vastly overpowers Chrona's own wavelength, which would eventually lead to Ragnarök eating Chrona's soul. Ragnarök can change his appearance to that of a dragon to give Chrona wings to fly, vastly increasing Chrona's combat capabilities. He can also grow a mouth on his sword form that draws souls to himself by using a high pitched scream. Ragnarök absorbs the souls, using the mouth like a vacuum. Also, while screaming in his sword form, Ragnarök acts like an electric saw due to the vibrations caused by his screaming.
- Ragnarök can control Chrona's black blood (due to consuming innocent souls) when it leaves Chrona's body. He can use the blood spilled from Chrona's body to make spikes to attack anyone or can cause the blood to stop and act like a bandage for Chrona so she does not pass out from blood loss. When not in use, Ragnarök resides in Chrona's body, further tainting her blood and also allowing him to control Chrona's blood. He does worry about Chrona's health and will try to help Chrona by stopping her bleeding wounds. However, Ragnarök will always ask for thanks afterwards. After the second fight with Maka, Ragnarök has all his souls confiscated which results in him shrinking greatly in size and muscles (he now resembles his child form). He is slightly perverted since when Chrona finally stood up to him he acted like an understanding guy while at the same time pulling up Chrona's dress. Even with less power he still wants to eat any soul he sees. He tends to use Chrona as a human shield against non-deadly attacks, such as the Maka Chop. Since his vast loss of souls, his sword form now has a thiner blade, making his attacks weaker, but still formidable.
- Attacks: His attacks mostly concentrate using Chrona's blood (after she's injured) and causing mass destruction.
- Blood Spike: Changes the drops of Chrona's blood into spikes to attack from multiple angles.
- Screech Resonance: Ragnarök's equivalent of Soul Resonance.
- Jet Black Sword: a more powerful form of Ragnarök's sword form.
- Mira Nygus
- Replaces Medusa as the school's interim doctor. She is Sid's partner, and looks like a mummy due to the fact she is covered in bandages. She becomes a combat knife in weapon form.
- Giriko
- Giriko is a Demon Weapon and an ally to the witch Arachne. He lives for fighting, and likes to be destructive. Giriko takes the form of a chain saw in weapon form. Although he is a weapon like Tsubaki or Soul, he openly states his hatred for Shibusen, claiming that he wants to follow his own path will rather than be used by a meister. Giriko is not very good at remembering faces, as seen when he does not recognize Maka when she infiltrates into Arachne's castle with the other Shibusen students.
- Attacks: Giriko's attacks center around use the chain saw blade on various parts of his body.
- Chain: Giriko can cause the chain-saw chain to appear on his body to act like a sort of armor.
- Saw Foot 2nd Gear: As the name implies Giriko creates the saw blade on his legs so he can kick and cut at the same time. (He can also use the saw blades as a pair of motor powered roller blades to move faster than normal)
- Reverse Rotation: Giriko uses his hand and feet to stretch the chain around his body, making him a blade disk that allows him to attack with which ever body part is closest to the enemy.
- Masamune (マサムネ?)
- The demon blade, Masamune, is an extremely dangerous weapon and Tsubaki's older brother. He wanders around, possessing others to use him as their weapon to collect any soul he wants. He speaks using ancient words and likes to write haiku. He plays on the fears of others to possess and use them until he takes over their soul. He believes only the strong survive and the weak live only to serve the strong. He developed this way of thinking when Tsubaki inherited the family's multiple weapon forms. He considers himself more worthy then her and believed that he should have gotten the multiple weapon forms. He is later defeated by Tsubaki and absorbed by her, giving her his katana form and all of his abilities.
- Attacks: He cannot use any attacks until he has possessed someone to wield him.
- Soul Possession: Used by demon blades to overpower and control the soul of its user.
- Shadow Puppet: Used by Demon Blade Masamune to control the shadow of the person he possessed for pincer attacks (the puppet can only say shadow).
- Puppet Strike: By folding the Shadow Puppet onto the blade, Masamune can create a far reaching lunge thrust.
- Split Branches: After the Puppet Strike, large spikes protrude from the shadows body to skewer the enemy at close range.
- Marionette's Rain: By using multiple Shadow Puppets arms, Masamune skewers his enemy.
- Excalibur (エクスカリバー Ekusukaribā?)
- Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu (anime)
- The legendary sword used by heroes and kings. It has a great power that is unmatched by any other weapon. It turns out that anyone can use Excalibur. However, no one can put up with its personality (it has a bigger ego then Black Star). The only reason that those who use it are called heroes is that they can put up with its annoying habits, such as a list of one thousand things he demands to be completed, such as daily five-hour reading sessions. Excalibur is featured in a single manga chapter when Kid and Black Star find a book about him and thus sought him out, only to discover that the book had in fact been written by Excalibur himself. They quickly ditched him due to his personality. His humanoid form is not elegant like his weapon form, as he looks like a cartoon-ish gentlemen with an outrageous mustache and no pants. On the other hand, his legendary powers have been proven by a fellow Shibusen student who found completing the appointed tasks easy. Excalibur can grant great power, light speed and teleportation, and the wielder can easily defeat three of Shibusen's strongest meisters combined. In the end, Excalibur was put back again because the student could not put up with his annoying sneeze.
[edit] Witches
- Angela Leon (アンジェラ・レオン Anjera Reon?)
- Voiced by: Ayaka Saitō
- The first real witch introduced in the series. She is nothing more than a kid witch that is not very good at magic, which is the reason Mifune is protecting her. She cares for Mifune and calls anyone that fights with him a bully (even if he started the fight). Her animal theme seems to be chameleons due to her hat's appearance and the entrance of her castle. She is later shown attending the witch's meeting alongside Mifune, which greatly angers Eruka. The only magic she has shown so far is partial invisibility. She is being held captive by Arachne so that Mifune will fight for her but Angela doesn't seem to know it. In the past she was being used by a mafia family until Mifune was sent to kill her but he 'kidnapped' her instead as to protect her.
- Samantha
- Voiced by: Reiko Suzuki
- She was a witch in an Egyptian pyramid, trying to resurrect a dead pharaoh but was only consumed by the pharaoh instead. She was more of a generic witch, with no apparent animal theme.
- Mabaa (魔婆?)
- The current leader of all witches. She is held in high regards for being almost as powerful as the Shinigami. Her left eye was taken by Free.
- Medusa (メデューサ Medyūsa?)
- Voiced by: Hōko Kuwashima
- Medusa is the first main antagonist in Soul Eater. She is the witch who manipulates Chrona into collecting every soul they come across. She is the one that told Chrona that it was okay to take any soul they wanted. When Chrona starts to falter, Medusa plants a hypnotic spell in her mind that makes Chrona want to fight and kill. She is posing as a teacher and a nurse at Shibusen so she has access to all the students files. While in disguise, she acts like a very supportive person to hide her true nature. She stays at Shibusen to study the students to see which ones can become kishin (demon gods). Medusa is willing to use anyone and everyone to further her plans by any means necessary (even as far as planting snake bombs in her fellow witches bodies so they would cooperate with her), Medusa is also a cunning witch. An example would be when she plants snake bombs in the bodies of others. She can use them without dropping her soul protection, which allows her to not be discovered by others. Her personality is similar to Dr. Stein as she sees everyone and everything as an experiment. Her animal theme is snakes due to her magic, clothes, and that she constantly chants "snake snake cobra cobra". She has thousands of snakes in her body ready to do her bidding. She engaged in an intense battle with Dr. Stein in the lowest level of the school to allow the awakening of the first kishin. While she initially had the upper hand, her momentary pleasure at Asura's successful resurrection allowed Stein to slice her in half. Making one final attack and claiming to love him, he skewered her through the skull and her body evaporated. However, a snake decorated with Medusa's arrow markings was seen escaping the city through a drainpipe on the outskirts, most likely her transformed. Medusa has now been proven to still be alive, having possessed a cute little girl called Rachel. After getting her hands on the legendary artifact "BREW", leads a group of Shibusen students in an attack against a fellow witch — her older sister Arachne.
- Magic:
- Vector Arrow: Sends arrow headed snakes to pierce the enemy. (follows Medusa's hands)
- Vector Bullet: An arrow appears on the ground that will send anything on it in the direction that Medusa desires; propelling herself towards the enemy to engage in close combat (against Dr. Stein and Chrona), propelling an attacker away from her, and quite possibly moving inanimate objects like chairs, tables, etc., turning them into deadly projectiles. Also known as Vector Plate in some translations.
- Snake Bomb: Places a snake from her body into someone else; it will only detonate when she gives the signal.
- Vector Boost: A magic that doubles the power drawn in the direction of the arrow.
- Eruka Frog (エルカ・フロッグ Eruka Furoggu?)
- She is very suspicious of Medusa and believes that Medusa has too much freedom. She and Mizune tried to kill Medusa for endangering all witches when she was staying at Shibusen but were soon stopped when Medusa set off the snake bombs she had planted in Mizune's body. Medusa said she would do the same to Eruka if she did not cooperate. Now she helps Medusa with her studies in exchange for removing the bombs in her body (for every job done well, one bomb is removed). She has stated that she loves destruction and how lucky she was born a witch. Her animal theme are frogs. She normally says geko (Japanese sound for croaking) when speaking. She can transform into a frog for escaping or spying on others. She appears to have been very good friends with Mizune when she feels sorry for lying to her (Mizune's) family to get they cooperation by saying that it was Shibusen that killed Mizune (she goes as far as apologizing for her actions); however, note that she was thinking of her guilt, not saying it out loud. She eventually carries out the final part in Medusa's plan to revive kishin, and injects kishin with the black blood - hence reviving him. After Medusa's apparent death, the gang disbanded she spent a few happy days feeling free. However, after Medusa regained a suitable form, she was quickly tracked down again. She has since acted as a conduit relaying orders from Medusa to Chrona inside Shibusen (always transformed as a frog) and inside Arachnophobia disguised as one of Arachne's followers, although it's unknown if she is still being threatened by the bombs Medusa implanted in her or if now she is doing it in her own will.
- Magic:
- Transform: Eruka transforms into a frog. She can still talk in this form.
- Egg Bombs: Tadpole-like black balls with frog faces that can hop towards their target before detonating.
- Arithmetic Magic (Magic Calculation): Used as a 'place maker' for high level spells so they are more precise.
- Mizune (ミズネ?)
- Mizune is the surname of a large family of witches who all look alike and whose animal theme are mice. They speak by saying, "chi" (sound of a mouse squeak). "Mizune" spelled backwards, "nezumi", is the Japanese word for 'mouse'. One witch from this family is initially introduced as a friend of Eruka's. Like Eruka, she does not like the fact that Medusa has so much freedom and that she brings Chrona to the witch meetings. Mizune and Eruka try to kill her for endangering all witches while she is staying at Shibusen. Mizune is killed by Medusa when Medusa set off her snake bombs that she had implanted in Mizune's body. Five members of the family join Medusa after Eruka tells them that their family member that Medusa killed was actually killed by a Shibusen student. The five family members can merge into a single being capable of actual speech (and beauty on the par with Blair's human form).
- Magic:
- Beam Hige (mustache): Beams of magic used for cutting that extends from the face in the form of three whiskers on each side.
- Arachne
- Known as "The Heretic" witch, Arachne becomes the main antagonist in Soul Eater after Medusa takes on the form of a little girl. She is the leader of the massive Organization "Arachnophobia" and is referred to as the mother of all Demon Weapons. She is Medusa's older sister. She is the eldest of the three Gorgon Sisters, though the third sister has yet to be revealed. She created a Demon Weapon by killing off humans and killing a witch. Her animal theme is the spider. She can create thread that leaves a person immobilized for an unknown amount of time (it depends on how strong that person is).
[edit] Others
- Blair (ブレア Burea?)
- Voiced by: Yūko Chichimoto (drama CD), Emiri Kato (anime)
- First mistaken by Maka and Soul to be a witch that they needed to make Soul a death scythe, it turns out that she is just a cat with strong magical powers. The theme of Blair's magic consists of pumpkins, which she uses as weapons (bombs, cannon, etc), as well as something of a catchphrase (Pump-Pumpkin, Pumpkin), which she often recites before using her powers. She has started to like Soul (who she calls Scythe Boy) and playfully flirts with him. Blair also flirts with Soul to see how Maka acts by doing so. She was supposed to be the witch soul Maka and Soul needed but since she was not a witch, they took one of her nine "lives". Taking one of her lives meant that they had to start all over again. She is well endowed, which is used when she flirts with Soul usually by appearing out of her cat form in little to no clothing. She is very good at understanding other people. She is always looking for some fun, whether it is harmless or not. Her hat is named Zwan and can change into a hand when Blair commands it to. She sometimes refers to herself in third person. She has been shown to be strong enough to deal with the evil spirit "The Flying Dutchman" all by herself while in her cat form. She is named after The Blair Witch Project.
- Magic:
- Halloween Cannon: Launches a pumpkin like a cannon ball.
- Smashing Pumpkin: Creates a pumpkin shaped explosion on the floor.
- Transform: Blair changes into her cat form; she can still speak in this form.
- Free (フリー Furī?)
- He was placed in Witch Jail for taking Mabaa's left eye. He has a silly personality. For example, he wanted to dig out of the jail using a spoon like in the movies, and started hitting his head on a tree when someone told him of a different yet cliché way of escaping. He is from the Immortal Clan (thus granting him a soul mixed of various parts), which is why Mabaa locked him up since she could not kill him. He uses ice magic and the iron ball still locked on his leg to fight. He is also a werewolf and constantly says, "Wolf wolves wolf wolves" when he is on the verge of unleashing a new spell. As a werewolf he mainly uses his tail as a weapon and shield. He has changed his name to Free because of his newfound freedom from jail. Though initially rusty from his time in prison, Free has shown that he is adept at using magic. Like Eruka he is currently disguised as one of Arachne's followers.
- Attacks: His attacks center around ice magic, a werewolf's strength, and his everlasting immortality.
- Ice Ball: By encasing his iron ball in ice he uses it like a weapon.
- Ice Pillar: Causes a pillar of ice to appear behind the enemy, normally trapping them.
- Ice Sphere: A larger form of Ice Ball
- Ice Bomb: Following Ice Sphere, Free swings it towards his enemy like a cannon ball.
- Fighting Wolf Fist: A sort of martial art Free uses.
- Demon's Eye Cannon: Free starts charging energy into his mouth, then he fires it.
- Wolf Tail Wall: By encasing his own tail in ice, Free makes a protective shield for himself.
- Spatial Magic (Independent Cube): Using the magic of his left eye Free creates a magic cube that will isolate whatever is inside in another dimension (At his best Free can hold it for one hour and he needs Eruka to use her Arithmetic Magic (Magic Calculation) so he seals only what he needs to seal.
- Spatial Magic (Holographic vision): (Free used this to prolong Kid and Black Star from reaching the kishin) Free casts an illusion which projects his actions whilst he is on top of something, namely Eruka's tadpole familiar.
- Mosquito
- Mosquito is Arachne's butler. He appears to be a short old man with a large pointy nose that he uses to suck the blood out of a victim. He has mentioned that he can transform into his form from 800 years ago which could mean he is stronger then he lets on (but it seems he needs some high grade blood to pull the transformation off). He has a sense of honor since he let Maka, Black Star, and Kid during they fight since their (Maka, Black Star, and Kid) time was running out and they impressed during the fight.
- Forms: Mosquito's body changes to the way it was at an earlier age to fight.
- 100 years ago: The muscles in his upper body grow (he looks like a gorilla in this form large arms and body but his legs remain the same).
- 200 years: He used this form to recover from his fight with Maka's group but it wasn't shown
- 400 years: Mentioned but hasn't been shown yet.
- 800 years: Mentioned but hasn't been shown yet.
- Attacks: Mosquito uses his needle nose for attacking, any other attacks depend on the form his using.
- Police Stringer: Mosquito extends his nose then thrusts himself (while spinning) in order to drill his victim on his nose.
- Three Piece Police Stringer: A more powerful version of the Police Stringer but it attacks three times.
- Asura
- The strongest and most dangerous antagonist in Soul Eater. He was supposedly a human who existed before Shibusen, with strange habits: he would cover his head with long scarves and he wore five to six shirts on his body, this was because he did not trust anyone and because of that the Shinigami said he had a careful soul. He was the strongest member of the "Eight Powerful Warriors Shinigami" a group made up of The Shinigami, Asura, and six other still unnamed members. He was powerful enough that he destroyed all the witches of the East by himself. The Shinigami explained that he was always terrified by the greatest fear possible, so to protect himself, Asura became attached to power and started taking souls of people who were not listed, he even went as far as to eat his own partner out of fear, this caused him to go mad and become the first kishin. To stop him the Shinigami removed all of Asura's skin and used it as a seal on Asura to trap him under the school, then the Shinigami rooted himself to the very ground of Death City and uses his soul and body to prevent Asura from awakening. He is eventually awakened in volume six of the manga by Eruka and Free. He managed to knock out Black Star and Kid in one blow and fight The Shinigami on equal ground. After fighting The Shinigami, he flew to an unknown destination.
- Eibon
- An enigmatic entity, probably an acquaintance of Shinigami, who created Tempest (Brew) and many other demon weapons. Not much has been revealed of his powers or relations with the rest of the cast though the main protagonists have seen him in the time vortex.
- Little Demon
- Called "Little Demon" by Soul Eater, he is a strange demonic imp that appeared before Soul inside his heart after his first encounter with Ragnarök. Told Soul "to be strong... follow me...", when soul decides to follow the imp states;"There will be insanity and ecstasy of joy". He may represent the power of the black blood and the insanity deep inside everyones heart.
[edit] Humans
- Kami
- Maka's mother and Spirit's ex-wife. She has only been seen in one photo.
- Mifune
- Voiced by: Kenjirō Tsuda
- He has a soul so strong that it counts for ninety-nine souls by itself. Black Star was about to take his soul but stopped when he saw how Mifune was protecting the young witch, Angela. He acts like a big brother or even a father to Angela. He is later a bodyguard for Arachne but only because she is holding Angela captive if she (Angela) doesn't know it. He seems to really like being with children since he blushed at the thought after Tsubaki suggested that he could by a teacher at Shibusen. Mifune used to be the bodyguard for a mafia family, when he was sent to kill a rival family and retrieve the witch that they had, he meet Angela. After 'kidnapping' her he left the family to protect Angela. He also compliments Tsubaki, stating that she is a great weapon and has a lot of potential (making her blush). His name comes from legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune.
- Attacks: His attacks center around his Infinite One-Sword Style. He uses the blunt side of the sword if he has to fight children, first shown in the first fight he had with Black Star. However, he may also use his swords by throwing them into the ground and using them as platforms to travel across.
- Start Up: Not an attack but more like the signal for Mifune of the start of the fight by throwing his case of swords into the air then letting stick into the ground, surrounding his enemy and himself with swords thus giving Mifune an near unlimited amount of swords to use.
- Three Shining Paths: Mifune will grab then throw three swords at the enemy.
- Addition Blows (1-12 Blows): Mifune moves at high speeds to attack his enemy. After each hit he will let go of his sword to quickly use another to let him attack from different angles while his enemy is stunned from his previous blow. This leaves his enemy covered with twelve swords.
- Multiplication Twenty Four Blows: Mifune will follow his Addition Blows with this attack. He strikes the swords that he left around his enemy from his Addition Blows which ends up cutting his enemy with the twelve swords all over again.
- Jack the Ripper
- Voiced by: Kōichi Sakaguchi
- A killer with claws, a mask, and bondage outfit. He was Maka and Soul's ninety-ninth evil human soul.
- Alcapone
- Voiced by: Shōzō Iizuka
- A Mafia leader who eats souls. He was to be killed by Black Star and Tsubaki, but he and all his family were killed by Mifune for trying to get his hands on Angela's, a witch, power.
- Lupin
- Voiced by: Kenichi Mochizuki
- A thief in the human world. He was defeated and his soul collected by Death the Kid. A possible reference to Arsène Lupin.
- Pharaoh
- Voiced by: George Nakata
- An ancient pharaoh that Kid could not bring himself to attack while in his symmetrical coffin but was gunned down mercilessly once Kid saw his real (and very mismatched) appearance.
- Rasputin
- Voiced by: Katsuhisa Hōki
- A priest that was thought to be invincible, but was easily taken down by Maka and Soul.
- Captain Nizuheg
- The soul of a ghost ship that was being used by Medusa to gather more souls for kishin. He fought with a gun, just Kid. Later shown to work with The Clown and destroyed when Blair tricked him into self-destruct his factory and himself in the progress. He is modeled after the captain of the Flying Dutchman.
- Marlon
- Mifune's old boss until he betrayed by 'kidnapping' Angela instead of killing her. He is named after the actor Marlon Brando, to whom he even bears a little resemblance.
