Cover of the first tankōbon for Rurouni Kenshin, released in Japan by Shueisha on September 9, 1994.

This is a list of chapters of the Rurouni Kenshin manga, part of the Rurouni Kenshin media franchise. The series was written and drawn by Nobuhiro Watsuki and was published by Shueisha in the Japanese-language magazine Weekly Shonen Jump.[1] The manga consists of 28 tankōbon volumes which, as of 2007, sold over 47 million copies in Japan.[2] The first tankōbon was released on September 9, 1994, and the twenty-eighth was released on November 4, 1999.[3][4] The storyline of Kenshin is divided into three story arcs; Tokyo, Kyoto, and the Jinchū arc (人誅編 Jinchū-ban?). The Jinchū arc (also known as the "Ending arc", "Revenge arc") was not animated except for parts concerning the background of Himura Kenshin, the titular character, which formed one release of the OVAs. Watsuki originally planned to create a Hokkaido arc and a sequel, but felt it would be better to start with another manga and so ended the series with the Jinchū arc.[5] The first, second, sixth, and twenty-eighth volumes also include the initial one-shots made by Watsuki, Rurouni Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story (1), Rurouni Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story (2), Crescent Moon in the Warring States, and Meteor Strike.

In July 2006, the Japanese publishers of Rurouni Kenshin released the kanzenban edition. Each kanzenban volume features a new cover, and there is a color panel inside the book that is new art as well.[6] The kanzenban 22 volumes long (as opposed to the original 28 tankōbon, each book contains more chapters than the basic editions), with two coming out monthly. As a bonus, the last kanzenban includes Yahiko no Sakabatō, an extra story that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump but was never collected into a book in Japan.[7]

The Rurouni Kenshin manga was serialized in North America by Viz Media in the American Shonen Jump magazine.[1] The first volume was released on October 7, 2003,[8] with volumes released normally every other month until July 5, 2006, when the final volume was published.[9] The last volume of the Viz edition contains a preview of Watsuki's most recent creation, Buso Renkin.[10] As of January 2008, Viz began re-releasing the manga in a wideban format called "VIZBIG Edition", which is a collection of three volumes in one.[11]
