The characters listed in this section are those whose portrayer has appeared in the opening credits. They are listed according to the order in the opening credits.

Character Notes Credited from
Lincoln Burrows Falsely accused of the murder of Terrence Steadman and sentenced to death for the crime. He evaded authorities after escaping from prison and has been exonerated of all charges. Currently free, he assisted Michael and James Whistler break out of Sona. Episode 1.01 - present
Michael Scofield The protagonist, brother of Lincoln Burrows. He designs an escape plan to free his brother and save his life. He successfully executes this plan, but fails to evade the police in Panama. Recently has escaped from Sona prison. He is currently on a mission to hunt down Gretchen Morgan to make her pay for killing Sara. Episode 1.01 - present
Fernando Sucre Imprisoned at Fox River State Penitentiary for aggravated robbery and was Michael Scofield's cellmate. Escapes prison and briefly reconnects with his fiancee and mother of his child, Maricruz. Currently incarcerated in Sona for obstructing efforts to recapture Michael Scofield. He is now imprisoned at Sona after refusing to tell the guards where Michael was. Episode 1.01 - present
L. J. Burrows Son of Lincoln Burrows who evades corrupted Secret Service agent, Paul Kellerman. He eventually begins school again with a new identity until he is kidnapped by the company. Episode 1.01 - 2.13

Brad Bellick Leader of the Fox River State Penitentiary correctional officers but is later dismissed. He goes after Charles Westmoreland's hidden five million dollars, but fails. Set up for murder twice by T-Bag, he is currently incarcerated at Sona. Episode 1.01 - present
Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell Imprisoned at Fox River State Penitentiary with a life sentence[1] for six accounts of kidnapping, rape, and murder. He escapes with Michael's help and reconnects with his previous family by kidnapping them. He frees them after an emotional outbreak, however. He goes to Panama and ends up in Sona for killing a number of prostitutes. T-Bag has now taken over Sona Episode 1.03 - present

Sara Tancredi Michael's love interest, daughter of the Illinois governor, and a doctor working at Fox River State Penitentiary before becoming involved in the conspiracy behind Lincoln Burrows' setup. She eventually shoots a corrupt government agent, William Kim, and Michael takes the fall for it, giving her freedom. Apparently brutally decapitated, her head was placed in the box at the beginning of season 3, though it would later be discovered to be a ploy. Episode 1.01 - 2.22/ 4.01-present
James Whistler Incarcerated at Sona and the one that The Company wants Michael to break out. Episode 3.01 - present
Sofia Lugo Girlfriend of James Whistler. Episode 3.01 - present
Gretchen Morgan An operative for the Company. Is also known under the alias "Susan B. Anthony". Episode 3.01 - present
Alexander Mahone F.B.I. Special Agent, who is put in charge of the nationwide manhunt for the Fox River escapees. He is responsible for the deaths of three of the Fox River Eight. In turn, Michael sets him up for possession of cocaine, which leads to his incarceration at Sona as well. Episode 2.01 - present
Veronica Donovan A real-estate lawyer and a longtime friend of the protagonists of the series, who unsuccessfully tries to find evidence to exonerate Lincoln. She was executed by secret service agents after finding Steadman. Episode 1.01 - 2.01
John Abruzzi A mob boss who is imprisoned at Fox River State Penitentiary with a life sentence. He is shot and killed after escaping prison. Episode 1.01 - 1.13

Norman St. John/Lechero A Panamanian drug kingpin incarcerated at Sona; leader of the prison. He subsequently lost his power, tremendously after his escape and was smothered to death by T-Bag Episode 3.01 - 3.13
Paul Kellerman Secret Service agent who was ordered to make sure Lincoln Burrows is framed and convicted for murder, along with various other illegal acts. His current status is unknown (but presumed dead after a shooting) after releasing information about The Company at Sara Tancredi's trial. Episode 1.03 - 2.22

Benjamin Miles "C-Note" Franklin Imprisoned at Fox River for possession of stolen goods.[2] He escapes prison and reconnects successfully with his family. All charges against him are dropped after he reveals certain secrets about Alexander Mahone. Episode 1.14 - 2.22

  • "Avocado" Balz-Johnson: An inmate at Fox River State Penitentiary.
  • Aldo Burrows: Father of Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, and a former employee of "The Company".
  • Maricruz Delgado: Sucre's girlfriend.
  • Dede Franklin: Daughter of C-Note and Kacee Franklin.
  • Kacee Franklin: C-Note's wife and the mother of his daughter Dede.
  • Roy Geary: Correctional officer at Fox River State Penitentiary before being dismissed for misconduct.

  • Louis Patterson: Correctional officer at Fox River State Penitentiary.
  • Elliot Pike: Company agent working to get Whistler out of Sona. He was killed by Lincoln Burrows
  • Henry Pope: Served as Warden at Fox River State Penitentiary.
  • Caroline Reynolds: Introduced as the Vice President of the United States before becoming the President later in the series.
  • Manche Sanchez: Fox River prisoner and a cousin of Fernando Sucre.
  • Terrence Steadman: The brother of Caroline Reynolds, who Lincoln Burrows was convicted of murdering.
  • Keith Stolte: Correctional officer at Fox River State Penitentiary.
  • Richard Sullins: F.B.I. Internal Affairs agent who dislikes Agent Mahone
  • Frank Tancredi: Father of Sara Tancredi and the Governor of the state of Illinois.
  • Trumpets: An inmate at Fox River State Penitentiary and the leader of one of the black groups.
  • Nika Volek: Wife of Michael Scofield. Obtained American citizenship in exchange for helping Michael with his escape plan.
  • Katie Welch: One of the nurses who befriended Sara Tancredi at Fox River State Penitentiary.

  • Nick Savrinn: A lawyer who offered to work pro-bono to help exonerate Lincoln Burrows.
  • Crab Simmons: An ex-convict who arranged for Lincoln Burrows to meet with a man, who offers to pay off his debt in exchange for the murder of Terrence Steadman.
  • Sklar: Guard at the Fox River State Penitentiary asylum.
  • Christopher Trokey: An inmate at Fox River State Penitentiary and is associated with T-Bag's group of white supremacists.
  • Turk: A Fox River prisoner who was asked to kill Lincoln Burrows.
  • Charles Westmoreland: A veteran of Fox River State Penitentiary, serving a sentence of 60 years to life.[3]

  • Chaco: A Panamanian teenage boy who tried to sell illegal drugs to Michael Scofield.

  • Coyote: A coyote who had a prearranged deal with Michael Scofield to provide a plane to Mexico in exchange for nitroglycerin.
  • Theresa Delgado: Sister of Maricruz Delgado.
  • Denise: An employee of a post office who T-Bag used in order to obtain Susan Hollander's address.
  • Cooper Green: Former Deputy Attorney General and friend of Aldo Burrows.
  • Marty Gregg: A lawyer who defended Sara Tancredi at her trial.
  • Ives: F.B.I. Agent who accompanied Special Agent Mahone on the nationwide manhunt of the Fox River 8.
  • Kristine Kellerman: Sister of Paul Kellerman. Credited as "Kristine Pace" in press releases for episodes "Wash" and "Fin Del Camino".[4][5]
  • Bill Kim: Secret Service agent, who is loyal to "The Company".
  • Cameron Mahone: Son of Alexander and Pamela Mahone.
  • Pamela Mahone: Ex-wife of Alexander Mahone and mother of, Cameron.
  • Sasha Murray: Met Charles "Haywire" Patoshik with her boyfriend, who asked him to buy alcohol for them.
  • Ann Owens: Police officer and daughter of Jeanette Owens.
  • Jeanette Owens: Owner of the house, where Charles Westmoreland's money was buried.
  • Ed Pavelka: Succeeds Henry Pope as the next Warden of Fox River State Penitentiary.
  • Jane Phillips: An associate of Aldo Burrows; working with him in hopes of destroying "The Company".
  • Kathryn Slattery: A detective assigned to the case regarding Geary's murder.
  • Wheeler: An F.B.I. agent, helping Special Agent Mahone to track down the fugitives.
  • Kyle 'Woody' Woodling: Owner of a hardware store in Tooele, Utah, where the fugitives stole their digging equipment.
  • Agent Blondie: Agent who works for the company. He was the one responsible for Veronica Donovan's death. He was killed by Alexander Mahone after he threatened his son.
  • Trey: C-note's brother-in-law who helped him to have a reunion with his family.

  • Sammy: Lechero's right-hand man inside Sona.
  • Luis "McGrady" Gallego: A young prisoner in Sona.
  • Sapo: A scrawny prisoner in Sona who becomes friend of Bellick. Later he tries to escape but the guards kill him.
  • Colonel Escamilla: The commander of Sona. He is later replaced by Zavala
  • Augusto: Lechero's cousin and the leader of Lechero's business out of Sona.
  • Andrew Tyge: A Sona inmate who seems to know Whistler's real identity. He was found mudered and Lechero accused Cheo for the murder.
  • Mary Francis: A sex worker who Lechero brings inside sona.
  • Hurtado: One of the Sona tower guards. The one who Michael drugs at the first escape attempt.
  • Nieves: Lechero's man for smuggling drugs inside Sona. T-bag kills him and makes the death seem like overdose
  • Papo: Lechero's man inside Sona. He is killed by Escamilla accused for trying to escape.
  • Cheo: Lechero's man inside Sona. He is killed by Lechero after being accused for the murder of Andrew Tyge.
  • Cristobal: He joins Lechero crew on episode 8. He helped Sammy to take the authority in Sona and he is later killed by lechero.
  • Pistachio: The transsexual barber of Sona.
  • Wyat: A prisoner in Sona. He started a revolt against Lechero when Lechero couldn't provide them with water. After the water problem is solved, Lechero later drowns him.
  • Alfonso Gallego: McGrady's father.
  • General Zavala: He replaces Escamilla as Sona's commander. He tried to rescue LJ but he was killed by Grechen.
  • Rafael: A guard at Sona.
  • Octavio: A man from Cristobal's gang. He challenges Bellick for a fight and is killed by him.
  • Cyrus: Another member of Cristobal's gang. He is killed by Lechero.
  • Osberto: A gun smuggler who sells a bomb to Lincoln.
  • General Mestas: The new general of sona after Zavala's death
  • Lechero's wife: Comes to visit Lechero in a deleted scene.
  • Papo' sister: Comes to visit Sammy after her brother Papo's death in another deleted scene.
