There have been many prime minister's of Ukraine since that country gained its independence in the breakup of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Unlike the President of Ukraine, who is directly elected by popular vote every 5 years, the Prime Minister is appointed by the President upon the ratification of the candidate by the Verkhovna Rada. This is a list of office holders since the Ukrainian declaration of independence on August 24, 1991.
