The first Prime Minister of Thailand was Phraya Manopakorn Nititada, who took the office after the 1932 Siamese coup d'état ended the absolute monarchy. The current Prime Minister is Samak Sundaravej, leader of the People's Power Party, who took office on 29 January 2008.
