First, the night that Boog rescues him, he tricks Boog into trashing the local convenience store, and the next day gets Boog in further trouble by messing up his wildlife show in town. It is then that Beth realizes that she can no longer keep her beloved bear, and sends him (along with Elliot) back to the national forest right outside town. There Boog and Elliot encounter all sorts of animals, and team up together to fight off the hunters during hunting season. Although Boog finds Elliot as a nuisance throughout much of the film, by the time Shaw appears to have killed Elliot, Boog behaves like a real grizzly and roars loudly in Shaw's face.
