The List of North American ports is primarily shipping ports of North America.
[edit] Introduction
This list of North American ports consists primarily of shipping ports of North America, but also includes some that are primarily or significantly devoted to other purposes: cruises,[1] fishing,[2] local delivery,[3] marinas.[4] For major ports ranked by cargo tonnage see: for the US, List of ports in the United States,[5] for Canada see reference,[6] and for world ranking see List of world's busiest ports by cargo tonnage.[7] Similar Canada, US, and Mexico rankings also exist for container volume and value. All are listed in geographic order where possible (marine: coastwise from north to south or east to west; riverine downstream to mouth). Other notes: seasonal,[8] drydock,[9] river mile (in statute miles unless noted) and side of river (facing downstream); [10][11][12][13][14] Mississippi Basin;[15] Dubai Ports World controversy.[16]
