Zick is a 12-year-old loner who is considered a bit "strange" because he has the ability to see invisible monsters that others cannot see. In addition, he suffers from rather particular allergies; he sneezes when he senses dangerous monsters nearby. Zick has a strong and determined character, and will discover he has enormous powers. He still doesn't realize he is a Tamer and is destined to be a hunter of evil monsters. Zick will be tested to see if he can save the world of monsters! In The Devourer, he lost his power in the machine called the Devourer which has the ability to absorb his Dom Energy and also loses his ability to see monsters. His powers returned in The Last Tamer when saw his father in danger, and gained it at the last minute. In Canned Monster he meets another Tamer Teddy Thaur who at first admires him because Teddy knows more about monsters than he does.
In the comic book series, it was said that Zick was allergic to vanilla icing. In Issue 29, Zick gave away all his powers as a tamer to save Elena from Hector Sinistro. He also lost his ability to see his ghost grandparents, who cannot make themselves visible to humans. He loves his father and mother and admires his father. Zick likes eating redcurrant jelly sandwiches, as stated in his profile in Issue 1. He also has an infatuation for the girl Tamer Lay Mamery, who in the television series, likes Zick only because he has faced many gorkas.
He apparently loved Timothy, his hairless 'cat'. When he was kidnapped in issue 3, Zick was deeply sorrowed and upset because he did not manage to apologize to him. Timothy is a dear friend to him and he protects him. Bombo is also another one of his close friends in the series, despite the fact that Bombo always steals him shoes. In the television series, it is a gag that Bombo will try to steal Zick's shoes and succeeds and Zick would chase after him all over the house.
In issue 20, Zick's grandparents, Ezeria and Maria made an appearance as Zick's father was in search of them. In issue 24, Sinistro's circus, Zick found his grandfather's tamer's cellar and Hectro Sinistro's dombox which is in a pattern of a merry go round.

In the television series, Elena is also jealous when Zick makes a fuss over Lay Mamery which proves that she may have feelings for Zick. Because of his passion for the circus, his dombox is in a pattern of a carnival. After his escape, he kidnapped Bombo and the other monsters to show in his horrible circus. Bombo alone, because of his stomach, was forced to give up his invisibility for fight in a wrestling ring as the Great Chumbo, by swallowing his opponents and spitting them out. This was a great hit for Hectro as Bombo made him a lot of money. Zick and Elena came to rescue Bombo, breaking the other monsters out of prison and tried to stop Hectro but sadly, he had escaped.

Jeremy is a cat and the strictest of the 4 Maximum tutors. He became Timothy's replacement when he violated too many rules of Bibbur-Si. He controls the Barrymore's house with his strict behavior since then, being mean to both Zick and the monsters. He was mind controlled by Magnacat to capture Zick in episode The Devourer by sabotaging his Teleskates that ended him teleporting to Magnacat's secret lair. The devourer absorb all of Zick's Dom energy causing him to lose his ability to see and fight monsters. Jeremy then attacks Elena in the sewers while trying to find out what he is doing until the digesting plant stops him. He was freed from the mind control effect after the digesting plant knocked him out. Even though Jeremy is harsh and strict, he has a softer side and cares for Zick and Elena as evidenced in The Devourer when he is glad that he didn't hurt Elena while under Magnacat's control and when he gets worried of Zick getting captured by Magnacat.
He seems to have a human side, in issue 13, Jeremy got drunk with Timothy and surprised everyone by purring and apologizing. He also allowed Bombo to cuddle him but alas this didn't last when the hangover came, Jeremy was furious to see Bombo cuddling him and scolded him. At the end of the television series, he seemed to have grown fond of the monsters, as said by Theo.

When Zob lost his powers, the Maximum Tutors decided to separate the Zick Family by sending Ezeria and Maria to a detention oasis in Eilenou. After the tamers were set free from the detention oasis in issue 20, Zob had decided to look for them, only they had decided to visit instead and the family was reunited once again. In issue 23, Ezeria made a bet with Zob that if Zob could find a job, Ezeria would go on a diet. Of course, Zob won, accepting a job as an ice-cream maker and Ezeria went on a diet. They were good friends with Theo and Tessa and were upset that they passed away, but brighten when they saw their ghosts.

Teddy is a 14 year-old Tamer, and one of Zick's friends. He is a showoff, arrogant and boastful to anyone. He sometimes respects Zick, but not Elena. He first appeared in the episode Canned Monsters, and then later on in the series. We see him again in Witches Village and helps Zick recover information on the Mugalak. He became an antagonist in a short while in Mugalak. In the episode, he betrayed Zick and Elena when the Breath of Mugalak was taken, and suddenly steals it. While fighting, Teddy accidentally cause the cave to fall thanks to his Dom Energy of using Zick's sunglasses. His foot got stuck by this. Zick and Elena first thought of leaving him behind for betraying but Zick feels sorry for him, and thinks that he can still be a friend someday, and help him along with Elena. The reason for taking the breath in the first place is because he want to bring his own father back to normal after being turned into stone told by Zick's Father. After his father is restored, he and his mother was happy to see him. He has two parents, Terrence Thaur, his father and Johanna Tulasech, his mother. He likes a fellow tamer named Lay Mamery, who ignores him because he is immature. She doesn't return his feelings to her. It is unknown whether Teddy's feelings for her are true.
In issue 22, there is a tamer named Rudolph Thaur and whether he is related to Teddy or his family in a way is unknown. Teddy adores his father and thinks of him as a hero as said by Terrence in issue 13. In the comic series, Teddy did not go with Zick to get the Mugalak's breath but instead, teamed up with Aunt Emily. He betrayed Zick to get a vial full of the breath but in the end, lost the vial. Zick felt sorry and gave Teddy the sponge he used to collect the breath in hopes that it might help his father too. The two became good friends.
He apparently likes lemon sorbet according to the profile in issue 13. In Timothy's point of view (see Teddy's profile in issue 13), Teddy is arrogant and untrustworthy by nature. He also think that Teddy is clearly the son of Terrence as he is intelligent but lazy.

Unlike the television series, Terrence was shrunk like Zob in the comic series. In issue 13, Terrence was brought back to his normal size, but was not trusted by Zob because of his betrayal in the past. This betrayal was that Terrence abandoned Zob in the middle of a battle to save his own life. This was revealed in issue 13 when Zob told Terrence part of the story. Terrence did not want Teddy to know this as this would shatter the admiration Teddy gives his father so when Teddy and Zick arrived at the scene, Terrence told another lie. The four tamers fought against each other only to be stopped by Elena. Terrence and Zob still dislike each other. But over time, the two set aside their differences and became friends once again.

Despite this, she still cares for him as evidenced in the episode The Ancient Armory when Elena hears Lonzo's scream after he witnessed Bombo and Synakutz Bu taking picture of themselves, and making themselves visible for a moment, causing her to go help him with the situation only to find his face getting misplaced after being eaten by Bombo. He approaches Elena, who touches him, causing Puffy to transform back to normal.

They are the class bullies. They aren't very smart and they follow the orders of their 'leader' David. In the comic book and animated series, they don't go with David anymore since he was going with Annie instead of them.
- David McMackamack
David is a bully like Soup and Ford and likes to pick on Zick. The truth is that he really is a sensitive guy. In the comics book series, David would stutter while talking (earning him the nickname 'DeDavid'.) but this had been edited out of the cartoon.
