King Muhammad XI continued to rule over Royalist part of the country during North Yemen Civil War witch erupted when he was deposed in the Republican coup d'etat in September 1962 and lasted until May 1970. From 1967 he ruled from exile in at-Ta´if, Saudi Arabia.
