List of Minnesota Vikings head coaches

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a complete list of Minnesota Vikings head coaches. There have been seven head coaches for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). The Vikings franchise was founded in 1961 after the ownership group withdrew membership to the American Football League and agreed to join the NFL as an expansion team.

Bud Grant is the only coach to have more than one tenure and is to have won a NFL championship with the team, in 1969.[1] Grant is the all-time leader in games coached, wins, and in winning percentage with .622 (with at least one full season coached).[2] Les Steckel is statistically the worst coach the Vikings have had in terms of winning percentage, with .188.[3]

Of the seven Vikings coaches, two have been elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Norm Van Brocklin and Bud Grant.[4] Mike Tice is the only former player to be head coach for the Vikings. The current coach is Brad Childress, who was hired on January 7, 2006.[5] Statistics correct as of December 30, 2007, after the end of the 2007 NFL season.
