List of ITV journalists and newsreaders

As the oldest commercial television network in the UK, Independent Television (generally known as ITV) has employed many journalists and newsreaders to present its news programmes as well as to provide news reports and interviews during its long history.

Since the ITV network started Independent Television News Limited (ITN) has held the contract to produce national and international news for the ITV Network. Meanwhile, the regional ITV stations have provided local news programmes tailored for their regional audiences.

The following list contains the names of those best known individuals who have contributed to ITV network news.

  • Carol Barnes – worked for ITN from 1975 to 2004 as both reporter and newscaster.
  • Martin Bashir – left the BBC until 1999 to join ITV, working on special documentary programmes and features for Tonight with Trevor McDonald.
  • Reginald Bosanquet – best known for presenting ITN news in the 1970s. He joined ITN, when it began, as a sub-editor. He later reported from many parts of the world and was the diplomatic correspondent for four years.
  • Tom Bradby – has been political editor for ITV News since July 2005. He joined ITN as an editorial trainee in 1990 and subsequently became producer for Michael Brunson, ITN's political editor, in 1992. He spent three years (1993-96) as Ireland correspondent. From 1999-2001, he was ITV's Asia correspondent. He next became Royal Correspondent for ITV News, and was subsequently ITV News UK editor, before becoming political editor.
  • Michael Brunson – served as Washington correspondent and diplomatic editor of ITN. He is best known for serving as the political editor between 1986 to 2000 and as an occasional ITN newscaster.

  • Andrea Catherwood – best known as the main newsreader on the ITV Weekend News. She joined ITN in April 1998 starting as Newscaster/Senior Reporter for ITV News, presenting the Early Morning News and doing special reports for News at Ten. She then became Medical Correspondent. She left ITV News in September 2006 to front The Sunday Edition, ITV's new political show

  • Katie Derham – Media and Arts editor and newscaster for ITV News, where she presents the ITV Lunchtime News, and the news for London on ITV, London Tonight. She is also a relief presenter on ITV's new News at Ten.
  • Anne Diamond – hosted Good Morning Britain for TV-am, which lost its license in 1992. She began her television career starting with ATV Today and Central News.
  • Fred Dinenage – a television host and newsreader, based in the south of England, he has appeared as presenter of many British television programmes (most of them produced by Southern Television and its successors TVS and Meridian.

  • Anna Ford – initially worked as a researcher, news reporter and later newsreader at Granada Television. She became the first female newsreader on ITN, and helped launch the first British Breakfast television programme TV-am.

  • Martin Geissler – Africa Correspondent for ITV News, from May 2006. He joined ITV News in April 2002 from STV Central's regional news programme Scotland Today, where he was a news reporter and presenter.
  • Shiulie Ghosh – journalist and reporter for ITV News from 1998 until July 2006.

  • Gordon Honeycombe – newscaster from 1965 to 1977 at ITN. He was twice voted the most popular newscaster in Britain, by readers of the Daily Mirror and of The Sun. He returned to regular newsreading from 1984 to 1989 as chief newsreader at TV-am, becoming Britain's longest-serving ITV newscaster.

  • Lorraine Kelly – a Scottish television presenter and journalist best known as a presenter for GMTV, the ITV morning television station. She moved to TV-am as an on-screen reporter covering Scottish news in 1984.

  • Trevor MacDonald – He is a newscaster with ITN, notable for having been the first black news anchor in the UK. He joined ITN as a reporter in 1973 and rose to become a newscaster by the late 1970s. He presented the News at Ten bulletin from 1991 to 1999, and from 2001 until 2005. During this period he also hosted Granada Television's current affairs programme Tonight with Trevor McDonald. He returned to relaunch News at Ten with Julie Etchingham on 14 January, 2008.
