[edit] Suzaku

[edit] Miaka Yūki

Voiced by: Kae Araki (Japanese), Bridget Hoffman (English)

Miaka Yūki (夕城 美朱 Yūki Miaka) is an ordinary middle school girl who became the Priestess of Suzaku so that she could get into the High school of her choice. Outgoing and optimistic, Miaka is amicable with friends and strangers, and has tendency to be guileless and sentimental. She is naïve, but sometimes surprises adults with an insightful comment. She can be unassuming, magnanimous and courageous but somewhat unsophisticated. She seems to give the impression that she always needs help so she always seems to have someone looking after her.

She is constantly eating, and is drawn to any type of food. Also, her gluttony sometimes gets in the way, as she was once drawn into a magical mirror because of food. She believes herself to be considerate. She is also in love with Tamahome.

[edit] Tamahome

Voiced by: Hikaru Midorikawa (Japanese), David Hayter (English)

Tamahome (鬼宿) is the first Celestial Warrior Miaka comes to meet and seemingly the strongest member of the Suzaku Warriors. He first met Miaka, along with Yui, after having saved both girls from a gang of slave traders. He saves Miaka again after she is attacked by more slave traders. Although at first he is portrayed as greedy and only seems to want to help out when he is paid, later on in the series it is revealed that he only acts greedy for a special cause. He is tough on the inside, but also very shy. He fell in love with Miaka after she confessed her love to him and was struck ill. He sacrifices himself for the sake of others, and won't back down against an enemy. He is in love with Miaka. Their love transcends worlds. He cares for all the Suzaku-seishi and is deeply wounded when some of them die. In the OVA Season 1 3rd episode, he is reborn in Miaka's world as Taka.

Miaka's last wish was for her and Tamahome to be together forever. Encouraged by her warriors and by Taiitsukun, Miaka hoped that her heart's desire would be granted. Her spoken last wish however was asking Suzaku to save the world and return it to normal. Her warriors are shocked and even comment on how "so completely unselfish" it is. A month later, after her middle school graduation, Miaka's older brother Keisuke introduced her to a new classmate of his, Taka Sukunami. Taka remembered a past life when he was one of seven destined to protect a young girl who would save their world from destruction. He remembered that he was once called Tamahome, but he didn't remember any particular details about his former life. This takes place in the manga. In the anime, however, Tamahome's rebirth as Taka occurs in the OVA, Season 1 Episode 3.

During a class field trip to the Takamatsuzuka Tomb in Nara, Suzaku reached out to Miaka to aid him on a quest. A demon lord was threatening The Universe of the Four Gods and her world, and Miaka was once again needed to save the world. A later encounter with Suzaku gives Miaka even more answers as to the origins of Taka. The love between Miaka and Tamahome was a strong source of Suzaku's powers, and because of their strong love, Suzaku was able to create a version of Tamahome to exist in the real world. However, the Demon God (later revealed to be Tenkō) realized that Suzaku's powers were weak in the real world (attributed to the fact that the southern wall of the Takamatsuzuka Burial Mound was destroyed by grave robbers) and was attempting to usurp the powers of heaven and destroy everything.

Suzaku charged Miaka with the quest of retrieving seven stones (one which had already been recovered) which contained Tamahome's memories. When Tamahome's memories were placed back into Taka, Suzaku's powers would be restored and Tenkō could be sealed away once more. Taka and Miaka would reunite to retrieve the power of Suzaku.

[edit] Hotohori

Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu (Japanese), Kirk Thornton (English)

Hotohori (星宿) is the beautiful narcissistic fourth Emperor of Konan. When he first heard about the Suzaku-no-Miko at a young age, he thought the priestess would be the one for him and love him for himself, instead of his title. Eventually, when he met Miaka Yuki, he loved her deeply and would do anything for her. Thus, he became Tamahome's rival, but stepped aside when he realized Miaka only had eyes for Tamahome. He eventually marries a woman named Houki, who bears a striking resemblance to Nuriko. He is killed by Nakago during the battle between Konan and Kutou, leaving Houki pregnant with his son Boushin.

In Fushigi Yūgi Eikoden, Hotohori is revived as a young boy who visits a local cemetery often. During the assembly of the Suzaku-seishi, he was the last one to return, despite Nuriko's threat to kill him by his sword when he doesn't come out.

[edit] Nuriko

Voiced by: Chika Sakamoto (Japanese), Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (English)

Nuriko (柳宿) first appears disguised as "Kourin" in Emperor Hotohori's harem (which Hotohori never goes to unless to welcome new maidens). "Kourin" was in fact Nuriko's younger sister who died at a young age; he began behaving and dressing like her to keep her memory alive. As a "woman" he is very infatuated with his fellow warrior, Hotohori, but as a man, he also loves Miaka Yuki. As a Suzaku warrior, Nuriko possesses incredible arm strength.

When Nuriko is first introduced into the series, he is identified as a gay,cross-dresser. While he stops doing so in order to be able to better protect Miaka, he maintains his love for Hotohori. Though he is jealous of Miaka - for Hotohori admits his love for her early on in the series - Nuriko remains (relatively) mature about the situation, and he and Miaka grow close. Later on, Nuriko comes to terms with the fact that his cross-dressing resulted from the unyielding pain of losing his sister Kourin, and concludes that he had been trying to live his life as Kourin would have, not as he would have. This revelation allows him to finally allow himself to experience life as a man. He cuts his hair, which once hung down to his waist in a braid (much to the surprise of his companions), and admits to Tamahome that he loves Miaka as more than a friend. Throughout the rest of the series, even after his death from Ashitare, one of the Seiryū-seishi, the friendship between Nuriko and Miaka remains strong.

In Fushigi Yūgi Eikoden, Nuriko is revived as a young girl at a local marketplace. She also steals the magic ball Tasuki has, and breaks it. Despite the young girl's size, she is able to lift a heavy rock, like Nuriko, only to find out that she is indeed Nuriko.

[edit] Chichiri

Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki (Japanese), Jim Taggert (English)

Chichiri (井宿) is a wandering monk who has trained for several years with Taijitsu-kun, the creator. When he first appears, he appears to be always smiling, but this is later explained as a magical mask whose features he can move by reflex, making it resemble a natural face. Underneath, most of his face does not look so different from the mask, but one of his eyes is scarred by an old injury across his forehead.

He received this scar at the age of eighteen, when he was engaged to be married. After his best friend stole a kiss from Chichiri's fiancee, she called off their betrothal. Chichiri became enraged at this betrayal and the two men began to fight. While they were fighting, a heavy rainstorm blew in, causing the Shoryuu (Rising Dragon) River to flood their home village. Most of the inhabitants were drowned, including Chichiri's family and his fiancee. (It should also be noted that this same storm hit the neighboring village where Mitsukake lived and his father died attempting to save those closest to the river.) His friend fell into the rushing water and Chichiri attempted to rescue him, but a nearby log smashed into Chichiri's eye and gouged it out.

Chichiri is the oldest and wisest of all of the Suzaku warriors and thus thinks of himself as the older brother who looks after them all. He habitually ends many sentences with the emphatic phrase "no da", translated as "ya know" in the anime's English version (mainly the subtitles, as the English dub of the anime tends to omit this quirk). At the end of the series, he and Tasuki are the only Suzaku seishi still alive in The Universe of the Four Gods.

[edit] Tasuki

Voiced by: Nobutoshi Canna (Japanese), Daran Norris (English)

Tasuki (翼宿) is the former leader of the Mount Reikaku bandits. Extremely quick and agile, he particularly enjoys joking around with with Nuriko and Tamahome, then later Chichiri. His weapon is a metal fan that can emit flames when he cries out "Rekka Shin'en". After the first failed summoning of Suzaku, Taiitskun changes the fan material from iron to diamond. At the end of the series, he and Chichiri are the only (living) Suzaku seishi remaining in the Universe of the Four Gods.

Tasuki is straight forward, simple minded, and quick to pick a fight, however he also is chivalrous with a strong sense of honor and unafraid to show his emotions. Off all of the Suzaku Seven, Tasuki seems to take the deaths of his colleagues the hardest, openly crying for them. Tasuki cannot swim, a fact Tamahome enjoys teasing him about. Despite his fear of water, in the second OVA, he saves Miaka from drowning by "swimming," that is he pushes along the bottom of the lake in water that only comes up to his arms. When Chichiri appears, Tasuki is startled into deeper water, where he instinctively began to tread water. Only when Chichiri points out that he cannot swim does he stop, resulting in his sinking.

During the main series, Tasuki shows affection for Miaka and is ready to die to protect her, however he never indicates that those feelings are romantic until near the end of the series. While under a spell that draws out his hidden feelings and causes him to do evil, he tricks Miaka into going to a hotel with him. He confesses that he loves her and nearly rapes her. Taka shows up and in a rage, Tasuki tries to kill him but regains control of himself momentarily when Taka points out that he is making Miaka cry. To try to stop himself, Tasuki tries to kill himself, but they are able to break the spell first. In the second OVA of the anime series, this is changed to his succeeding and blowing up the building, but Tasuki was saved by Mitsukake arriving to heal his wounds.

In the novel Genrou Den, Tasuki's life before he joined the Priestess of Suzaku and the Suzaku Seven is shown. It tells how he met Koji and the other bandits. When the chief bandit of Mount Reikaku took Tasuki under his wing, Tasuki found his calling. He started to improve his martial arts skills in order to be like - and carry on after - his mentor as the bandit leader. He also learned the use of the iron fan. A woman named Rei-Rei is in love with him, but she dies from severe wounds while retrieving the iron fan.

[edit] Mitsukake

Voiced by: Kōji Ishii (Japanese), Richard Epcar (English)

Mitsukake (軫宿) is the healer of Suzaku's warriors. He is soft-spoken and one of the most serious of the Suzaku Seven. The son of a country doctor, he put his natural talents to work and often would help his father with his rounds. However after the death of Shōka, the daughter of the local nobleman and with whom he was in love, Mitsukake gave up medicine and devoted all of his time and energy into finding a miracle herb that could cure any illness. It was during this reclusive stage that Miaka and the others found him, and with a little persuasion managed to get him to join them. During the battle between Konan and Kutou, he is severely wounded by Nakago, and later gives up all his strength to heal the wounded. His cat Tama is the unofficial mascot of the Suzaku Seven, and after Mitsukake's death, becomes Chichiri's pet.

He is silent, and because he is expressionless most of the time, he's thought to be aloof. But he is actually just shy and does not know how to be more outgoing. He is very kind to the weak, as well as to animals, the elderly, kids, and of course the sick. He is utterly devoted to healing. A calm, kind man. Deep inside he still cherishes the memory of the late Shoka. He dies by exhausting all his energy to save the life of a child who, it later is revealed, is the reincarnation of his beloved Shōka. A side-effect of this is the revival of the Konan and Kutou soldiers that had been wounded during battle.

In Fushigi Yugi Eikoden, he is revived as a young boy who isn't convinced that he is Mitsukake, but rather stays to protect a young girl who is also named Shōka.

[edit] Chiriko

Voiced by: Tomoko Kawakami (Japanese), Marie Danielle Fox (English)

Chiriko (張宿) is the youngest and the genius among the seven seishi. He is an extremely intelligent child who becomes attached to Tasuki, and likewise Tasuki becomes attached to him. When he first appears, it is revealed he was studying to take an exam to take a seat in the government. He and Chichiri are the two technical minds of the team, but Chiriko is ruled by his character: when it is not on his body, he is a rather average child with limited intelligence, which is a source of frustration for him. The youngest and weakest member of the group, it is unusual that he would gravitate towards someone like Tasuki; however, the reasoning behind it is that Tasuki always wanted a younger brother and is more than happy to fill the roll for Chiriko. His body was taken over by Seiryū Seishi Miboshi, but after regaining control, he stabs himself, taking Miboshi with him to his death.

Because he is so small for his age, he looks almost like a toddler. His incredibly high IQ gave him an interest in research at a very early age, and his experience of the world has mainly been through books and study. On the other hand, his intelligence is tied to the appearance of the Chinese character on his foot, and when it disappears, he is even less mentally adept than a normal child his age. (He also becomes something of a crybaby.) He is very sensitive about his height and his peculiar intelligence, and this had made him strive to grow up to be a "man of strength." He is a nice, quiet, good-student type.

In Fushigi Yugi Eikoden, Chiriko is revived as a child of a politician. He is the only character to remember who he is, but has to fully revive quickly, otherwise, he will be a normal boy.

[edit] Suzaku

Suzaku is the Guardian god of the south, represented by a Vermilion Bird. He is the guardian deity for the country of Hong Nan (Konan).

[edit] Seiryū

Seiryū is the Azure Dragon, protector of the country of Kutō (Qu Dong), and its priestess is Yui Hongo .

[edit] Yui Hongo

[edit] Nakago

Nakago is considered to be the ringleader of all the Seiryu warriors and the main antagonist in the TV series, his cold demeanor and presence are often the drive behind Yui's decisions during the early stages of the story. He is also the blond haired, blue eyed shogun of Kutou, the eastern country and enemy of Konan. All of the Seiryū fear him. His life force is superior to all of the Suzaku warriors combined. When he was younger, he accidentally killed his mother and her assaulter, due to uncontrollable powers. The Emperor of Kutou learned that he was one of the Seiryū's seishi, hence he became the Kutou's general, commanding two-thirds of the Kutou army. The mark on his forehead means 'Heart'. He arrives at the Real World, attempting to take it over, but is killed by Tamahome when Miaka Yuki finally seals away Seiryu.

Interestingly enough, Nakago is the favorite character of series creator Yu Watase, as noted on several occasions in the chapter notes, as well in the second installment of the omake, "Tale of the Forbidden Women's Hot Spring" from the series 1 OVA (as stated by Nakago himself).

Nakago's real name is Gi Ayuru (魏 アユル) and the constellation he represents is Scorpio. His birthday is 17 November, and he is 25 years old. He was born in the West, of the Hin Tribe, to his mother Matuta (マトゥタ) and his father Gi Koyuu (魏 虎雄). He carries a whip and sword, and his powers are chi manipulation and psychokinesis. His hobby is threatening Tamahome. His voice actor is Tōru Furusawa.

His name is a misnomer (a dwelling for the heart); his plans and actions show a complete lack of mercy. He allows for no emotional distraction nor wasted action. Once someone's usefullness is exhausted, the person is eliminated. On the other hand, he has an undeniable charisma which allows him to skillfully manipulate people. But what goes on in his mind is a mystery.

Nakago is the last of the Hin tribe. The emperor of Kotou had sent out his soldiers to destroy the Hin tribe as they were hated by everyone. Nakago's mother was raped by the soldiers in front of him when he was a little boy, at this point Nakago used his life force blast and killed the soldiers and his mother. The soldiers recognized him as one of the Seiryuu warriors and they took him to the emperor. The emperor had molested him as Nakago lacked power over himself as a child. But as he grew up he gained complete control over his powers.

[edit] Amiboshi

[edit] Suboshi

[edit] Soi

Soi is a Seiryū celestial warrior. She was rescued by Nakago when she was a child and afterwards developed a crush on him. Despite being enemies with Suzaku, she actually shows sympathy towards Miaka Yuki and Tamahome. She is killed by Tasuki in a battle between Konan and Kutou in an attempt to save Nakago; she puts herself between Nakago and Tasuki's sword. Nakago then carries her dead body until he passes from the world of the book into the Real World. She is seen again by Nakago in "paradise," alongside his mother when he dies.

Her real name is Bai Hua-Wan (白 花婉 Haku Kaen). The character she possesses is "Room", located on her left thigh, and she represents the constellation Scorpio. Her birthday is 30 October, and she is 19 years old. She is 170 cm tall, and her blood type is O. Her hobby is using makeup. Her powers are special Feng Shui powers to control lightning, electro-magnetic fields, and Fhangzang (bedding) and chi-raising techniques. She has parents and younger siblings, and was born at Gen, a province near Kotou. Her voice actors are Atsuko Tanaka (Japanese), Melodee M. Spevack as Sonja S. Fox (English).

Because her family was so poor, as a child, she was sold to a brothel and grew up there. She fell in love with Nakago at the age of 12 when she first met him. She knew her love was unrequited, and that she was being used so he could recover and heighten his chi, but that did not stop her from giving him everything she had. She is normally bound in armor, speaks like a man, and is formidable as a fighter. But now, everything she does is, in one way or another, to try to assist Nakago. In fact, she is very feminine and kind. Because of her jealousy toward Yui, she is sympathetic to Miaka. Like Tomo, she has no desire to harm Miaka, but she says she would do anything for the sake of Nakago.

[edit] Ashitare

[edit] Tomo

[edit] Miboshi

[edit] Genbu

Genbu is the Black Tortoise, the guardian of the country of Hokkan (Bei-Jia), and Takiko Okuda is the priestess.

[edit] Takiko Okuda

[edit] Tomite

[edit] Hatsui

[edit] Byakko

Byakko is the White Tiger, the guardian of the country of Sairou (Xi-Lang), and Suzuno Ōsugi is the priestess.

[edit] Tatara

Tatara is one of the Byakko Seishi. His real name is Tsuonie Kasaru (ツオニエ カサル). The character he possesses is "Bond", located on the back of his right hand. The constellation he represents is Aries, and he is an Aries, with his birthday being March 21. He is 110 years old, although he appears to be 20 years old, and he is 187 cm tall. His hair is dark brown and very long, reaching his thighs. His eye color is violet, and his blood type is AB. His power is that he has full control over all forms of plants, including the seeds he carries around his neck. His hobby is gardening. His voice actor is Yamanoi Jin.

Deeply devoted to and in love with the Priestess of Byakko, he faithfully guards the Shinzaho she left behind. Usually remaining in Byakko Temple, he is taken from it by Nakago.

Outside of the Temple, his interior begins to age rapidly as the barrier at Byakko Temple in tandem with Subaru's spell was keeping him young. He takes it upon himself to look after Miaka when she is captured by Nakago and becomes mute under the influence of Miboshi's spell, and is the one to inform her that the wish of staying with the suzaku seishi (Tamahome) was the one wish that the gods [Suzaku, Genbu, Byakko and Seiryu] would not grant.

He is mortally wounded during a battle with Miboshi, and finally dies at the same time his true love Suzuno Ōsugi, the Priestess of Byakko dies of old age in the real world. Keisuke and Tetsuya say that he and Suzuno are then reunited in their eternal rest. Tatara is very close to his comrades, Tokaki and Subaru, and although they try to save him Tokaki only manages to rescue Miaka before Tatara bravely kills Miboshi with himself.

[edit] Tokaki

Tokaki (奎宿) is a Byakko celestial warrior. His real name is Hamu Ranva (ハム ランヴァ). The character he possesses is "Legs", located on his left cheek, and the constellation he represents is Andromeda. His birthday is November 11, and he is 109 years old (19 in warrior prime)[clarify]. He is 183 cm tall and his blood type is O. His powers are knowledge of pressure points, teleportation, and the use of earrings as weapons. His hobby is flirting with women. He is voiced by Shiga Katsuya (when young) and Ishii Kouji (when old).

Slightly lecherous in nature, Tokaki takes it upon himself to comment on any attractive young woman he comes across, including Miaka. Married to the beautiful and kind Subaru, another Byakko Celestial Warrior, he traveled around the four cardinal realms after Subaru threw him out of the house due to his wandering eye.

While traveling in Konan, he came across a young Tamahome. Realizing that the bullied child was a Celestial Warrior, he trained Tamahome in martial arts so that he could one day protect his priestess. The pair are reunited when the Suzaku Warriors travel to Sairō to find Byakko's Shinzaho, however it is not a happy reunion. Tokaki knew from experience from being a Celestial Warrior himself that a priestess cannot wish to be with one of her Celestial Warriors because after the priestess fulfills her duty in the book, she must return to her world.

Tokaki, realizing that Tamahome had fallen in love with his priestess, attempts to break them up by encouraging his adopted daughter Xi-Fang into a relationship with Tamahome. He feels that it would be more humane for their love to end willingly, rather than being forced apart at the summoning like his comrade Tatara and their priestess.

Although he does look at other women, he loves Subaru dearly and would go to any length to protect her. He also loves Tamahome as a son, and Tatara as a friend.

[edit] Subaru

Subaru (昴宿) is a Byakko celestial warrior. She is married to the flirtacious Byakko seishi, Tokaki for reasons no one can figure out.

Subaru's real name is Hamu Dourin (ハム ドウリン). Her constellation is "Rise", located on her left breast, and she represents Taurus. She is voiced by Mika Doi. Sweet and nurturing, Subaru tends to the exhausted Suzaku Warriors that descend upon her home. Though she is often exasperated by Tokaki's roving eye, she does love her husband.

She did not know that Tokaki had told Xi-Fang to seduce Tamahome, and is irritated that Tokaki would do such a thing. Unlike Tokaki, she feels that Miaka and Tamahome should enjoy what happiness they have, though she does agree with telling the pair that they could never have a happy ending. The whole issue is put aside though by the crises of Tatara and the Shinzaho's abduction from Byakko Temple and Miaka's running off, Subaru's time manipulation skills are revealed. With them, she brings Miaka's voice back.

[edit] Others

[edit] Keisuke Yūki

Miaka's older brother.

[edit] Tetsuya Kajiwara

Tetsuya is Keisuke's best friend.

[edit] Miaka's mother

Miaka's mother is a single mother, who divorced her husband when Miaka was a little girl. Miaka clearly remembers how hard it was for Mrs. Yūki to get over her divorce and vows to make her proud at any cost. Extremely hardworking, she only wants what is best for her children, and pushes them to do their best.

In the case of Miaka, she pushes her to apply for the prestigious Jonan high school even though Miaka really wants to go to Yotsubadai High School. This leads to tension, and causes Miaka to run away from home at one point in the manga. In the anime, she criticizes Miaka for being happy that Yui decides to apply for Jonan as well, saying that if Yui makes it, the chances of Miaka getting in are unlikely. Despite sounding cold, Mrs. Yuki really believes that she is doing her daughter a favor by telling her such harsh truths, wanting to make her work her hardest so she can be the best.

[edit] Taiitsukun

Voiced by: Hisako Kyouda (Japanese), Catherine Luciani (English)

As the creator of "The Universe of the Four Gods", Taiitsukun watches over all. In the manga, she is known as Tai Yi-Jun. Usually appearing as a wrinkled old woman (giving rise to the Sunukake-baba (Sand Witch) nickname), she frightens all of the Suzaku Warriors (usually it would be Tasuki) except Chichiri who claims he is gotten used to her face in the three years he had studied under her.

She resides at Mount Taikyoku, which is very beautiful, but to those with evil in their hearts will see nothing but rocky cliffs. She is aided by the Nyan-Nyans. Her true identity is eventually revealed to be the Jade Emperor.

[edit] Nyan-Nyan

Voiced by: Tomoko Kawakami (Japanese), Melissa Charles (English)

The childlike goddesses serve Taiitsukun and reside at Mount Taikyoku with her. They are also known as Lai Lai. They can take the appearance of floating orbs and can appear when commanded.

They have healed Miaka and her warriors when it was necessary, also offering to fix Nuriko's perversion (much to his dismay) and Taiitsukun's face (much to her annoyance). Their other function is to serve as vessels for the spirits of the dead Celestial Warriors, so that they can fight along side their priestess, in which case they take on the appearance of whomever they are inhabited by, and have all of their powers.

[edit] Toki

Voiced by: Katsuya Shiga (Japanese), Jeff Nimoy (English)

The adopted grandson of Suzuno Ōsugi, priestess of Byakko, he always thought the tales of her being a priestess in the Universe of the Four Gods were ludicrous. When Toki finds out that Keisuke and Tetsuya know about the Universe of the Four Gods, he takes them to Suzuno and tells them that she claimed to have been a priestess of the book.

Until Suzuno died, he had always been skeptical of the story but realized its truth when he sees Tatara's and Suzuno's spirits (shown as how they looked like when she was the young priestess) rejoin again in their love.

[edit] Mayo Sakaki

Voiced by: Junko Noda (Japanese), Lynn Fischer (English)

Mayo is a sixteen-year-old girl who attends Yotsubadai High School and is a member of the Basketball Club. When she was in the eighth grade, she saw Taka working in an ice cream parlor and fell in love instantly. Taka was unaware of her feelings towards him and only had eyes for Miaka. She found the "The Universe of the Four Gods" as it was being taken for recycling, but then lost it on a bus. Years later, she finds the lost "The Universe of the Four Gods" again while she walking home one night. When she opens it, she instantly learns about Miaka and Yui's adventures in the book. Heartbroken to learn that Taka is married and his wife is pregnant with their first child and with her own parents about to be divorced, Mayo feels her life is falling apart. She opens the book again and enters it in hopes of getting a storybook ending with Taka. In doing so, she becomes the new Priestess of Suzaku.

In the book, she tells outrageous lies and tries to make people hate Miaka. When she tries to make Reizeitei, Hotori's son, believe Miaka was a bad person, he chastises her and wonders if Mayo can save anyone. With the world out of balance, Mayo begins disappearing, then realizes she was being used by a fake Suzaku. She tries to kill herself, but Taka saves her. Mayo disappears, along with Miaka, but Miaka summons the true Suzaku. After Suzaku defeats the fake, a wiser Mayo returns to the real world.
