This is a chronological list of wrestlers that have been ECW Champion by ring name. The ECW Championship is a professional wrestling world championship in World Wrestling Entertainment. It was originally the highest ranked title of the Extreme Championship Wrestling promotion. Currently, it is the only championship on the ECW brand.[1] There have been a total of 22 recognized champions who have had a combined 31 official reigns[1]

The championship has been known as:[1][2]

  • NWA ECW Heavyweight Championship (April 1992 – August 1994)
  • ECW World Heavyweight Championship (August 1994 – April 2001, June 2006 - July 2006)
  • ECW World Championship (July 2006 – June 2007)

Shane Douglas 2 March 26, 1994 Devon, PA Pinned Terry Funk in an 8-man Ultimate Jeopardy match also involving, Mr. Hughes, Public Enemy, Road Warrior Hawk, Kevin Sullivan, and Tazmaniac. On August 27, the title became the ECW World Heavyweight Championship when Douglas relinquished the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. ECW leaves the NWA and is renamed Extreme Championship Wrestling. Recognized as the start of the title's history by WWE.[1][5]

Tazz 2 April 13, 2000 Indianapolis, IN Won the title on ECW on TNN. Tazz had signed with the World Wrestling Federation following his title loss to Mike Awesome on September 19, 1999. However, Awesome unexpectedly signed with World Championship Wrestling in 2000 while still being champion. As a result, Paul Heyman and Vince McMahon arranged for Tazz to return to ECW and defeat Awesome for title.[15]

Deactivated April 11, 2001 Extreme Championship Wrestling shuts down. World Wrestling Entertainment subsequently purchased its assets.[1]
Rob Van Dam 1 June 13, 2006 Trenton, NJ The title is revived by WWE for the ECW brand. Van Dam was awarded the title by Paul Heyman on ECW for winning the WWE Championship.[19]
The Big Show 1 July 4, 2006 Philadelphia, PA This was an Extreme Rules match on ECW. The title began to be referred to as the ECW World Championship during this reign.[20]
Bobby Lashley 1 December 3, 2006 Augusta, GA This was an Extreme Elimination Chamber match at December to Dismember, also involving Rob Van Dam, Hardcore Holly, Test and CM Punk.[21]
Vince McMahon 1 April 29, 2007 Atlanta, GA This was a Handicap match at Backlash, pitting Vince, Shane McMahon and Umaga against Lashley, in which anyone to pin Lashley would win the title.[22]
Bobby Lashley 2 June 3, 2007 Jacksonville, FL This was a Street Fight at One Night Stand.[23]
Vacated June 11, 2007 Wilkes-Barre, PA Vacated on RAW due to Lashley being drafted to the RAW brand.[23]
Johnny Nitro 1 June 24, 2007 Houston, TX Defeated CM Punk at Vengeance.[24] He officially changed his name to John Morrison on the July 17, 2007 edition of ECW. The title began to be referred to as the ECW Championship during this reign.[3]
CM Punk 1 September 1, 2007 Cincinnati, OH Aired September 4 on ECW.[25]
Chavo Guerrero 1 January 22, 2008 Charlottesville, VA This was a No Disqualification match on ECW.[26]
Kane 1 March 30, 2008 Orlando, FL Won the title at WrestleMania XXIV.[27]
