Dragon Ball GT is the final anime series in the Dragon Ball franchise and a direct sequel to the Dragon Ball Z anime series.^[1] Produced by Toei Animation, the series premiered on Fuji TV on February 2, 1996, spanning 64 episodes until its conclusion on November 19, 1997.^[2] Unlike the other anime series in the Dragon Ball franchise, Dragon Ball GT is not based on the manga series written by Akira Toriyama. The series is divided into four "sagas" or story arcs.

Funimation Entertainment licensed the series for an English language Region 1 DVD release and broadcast in North America. Funimation's English dub of the series premiered on Cartoon Network on November 7, 2003. The television broadcast skipped the first 16 episodes of the series. Instead, Funimation created a composition episode entitled "A Grand Problem", which used scenes from the skipped episodes to summarize the story. The skipped episodes were later aired after the remaining episodes of the series had been broadcast.^[2] The dubbed episodes also aired in Canada on YTV, which divided the episodes into two seasons instead of sagas.^[3][4]

Dragon Ball GT uses five pieces of theme music. Field of View performs the series opening theme, "DAN DAN Kokoro Hikarete ku" (DAN DAN 心魅かれてく, "DAN DAN Kokoro Hikarete ku"^?), which is used for all 64 episodes. "Hitori Ja Nai" (ひとりじゃない, "Hitori Ja Nai" ^?), performed by Deen, is used for the ending theme for the first 26 episodes. Starting at episode 27, the series begins using Zard's "Don't you see!" for the ending theme. Episode 42 marks the next ending theme change, with "Blue Velvet" by Shizuka Kudou being used. "Sabitsuita Mashingan de Ima o Uchinukō" (錆びついたマシンガンで今を撃ち抜こう, "Sabitsuita Mashingan de Ima o Uchinukō"^?), performed by Wands, is introduced as an ending theme in episode 51. It was used as the ending theme for the remainder of the series, except for the final episode which reuses the opening theme for the series ending theme.

After releasing the Eternal Dragon of the Dragonballs, Pilaf is about to make his wish to be ruler of the world. However, Goku interupts the wish and Pilaf, angry at his stregnth wishes that he was a child again. But as soon as he realizes he said "wish" in the sentence it is too late. The Dragon has turned Goku into a child and the Dragonballs spread out. However, these are not the usual dragonballs, they are the Black Star Dragonballs, and after a wish, the balls must be returned from around the universe to the planet it was made on or the planet will be destroyed.

General Rilldo makes his first appearance and is assigned to bring the gang in alive by Dr. Myu.

The Earth is being evacuated because the Earth has 2 weeks before its destruction. When everyone is finally off Earth, Goku learns that their is one person left and leaves to find him. After Goku realizes that the boy is safe because of Piccolo he loses his SS4. Piccolo tells him he can do anything and gives him the energy to get out of their. Then Piccolo contacts Gohan and tells him that he is sacrificing himself so that the Black Star Dragonballs are no more and then he dies.

Majoob makes it to the finals against Mr. Satan, but forfeits after Mr. Boo (from inside him) convinces him that Mr. Satan deserves to keep his title.

Goku Leaves with Shenron to become one with the Dragonballs and end the need for them telling Vegeta he is going to train. Bulma thinks back to when she first met Goku and all they've been through. Goku visits the Kame house and spars shortly with Krillin. He says his goodbyes to Piccollo as well. Young Pan ages into a Grandmother and enters grandson Goku Jr. into the World Martial Arts Tournament. He battles with Vegeta's decendant Vegeta Jr. and both show each other how they can go Blonde (Super Saiyan). While Pan watches the fight she glimpses across the arena and believes she sees the original Goku. She chases after him but loses sight. Goku walks down the street outside of the tournament while remembering his life. Goku takes his Power Pole in hand, calls to Nimbus and says "Until we meet again guys!".
