Robert E. wants to adopt the young vagrant, caught stealing an apple pie from his wife, Grace. But Grace, still aching over the loss of the Cheyenne baby, resists becoming involved with the ill child. Emma, the young "kept woman" who fall in love with Matthew against her will, is in the employ of unsympathetic brothel owner, Hank. Even Myra, who bought out her bordello contract, realizes that she remains in servitude -- this time to her husband, Horace, who opposes her taking a job at the bank.
91 | The Ice Man Cometh | January 27, 1996 | Disc 5
When a charlatan passes through town selling shares in a nonexistent invention, nearly everyone in Colorado Springs buys into the scam. If Dr. Mike, the town's voice of reason, weren't in Denver, perhaps the citizens of Colorado Springs wouldn't be so easily lured by the promise of "easy money." Sully, on the other hand, invests his good faith in the Indians who are trying to sell their corn in town. In the end, only Dr. Mike can save her neighbors from financial ruin.

After the son of Ezra Leonard (guest star Lawrence Pressman) is kidnapped by the mountain man, the ransom for the boy's return is a pledge that Leonard will cease his efforts on behalf of Colorado statehood. But the exchange is bungled, and Matthew is taken hostage. Meanwhile, back at home, overwork causes Dr. Mike to hemorrhage, threatening her pregnancy with miscarriage.
93 | Dead or Alive, Part 2 | February 10, 1996 | Disc 5
After Ezra Leonard offers a $1,000 reward for the capture - dead or alive - of the mountain man who kidnapped his son, Sully's rescue party turns into an unruly mob. With Matthew now in the hands of the elusive Noah McBride, Sully has a personal stake in pursuing the crazed man. Abandoning his fellow rescuers, Sully sets out after McBride alone. Back in Colorado Springs, Dr. Mike is frustrated that a near-miscarriage requires her to rest at home, while one of her least favorite physicians takes over her practice.
