There are three counties in Delaware.

The town of New Castle, Delaware was named in 1664 by Colonel Richard Nicolls, in the service of James, Duke of York. There is no record of the origin of the town's name, but it is likely that it was named for William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Newcastle, a Privy Counsellor to British King Charles II.
