In the HBO special upon which the series was based, Larry is approached by HBO about having his own hour-long HBO special. Larry begins performing stand-up comedy again in order to prepare for the special, after a long absence. However, Larry soon becomes nervous about the special and lies to the HBO executives about the illness of his nonexistent stepfather.

Larry decides to meet with Jason Alexander about their new show, but the two end up getting into an argument about where they should have it.

Cheryl is on a flight back home from Florida, and during the trip, the flight encounters horrific weather. Fearing for her life, she calls Larry, who has the TiVo guy over at his house (Kevin Heffernan) and as Cheryl proclaims her love for him, he tells her to call back because the TiVo guy is there. For the rest of the week Cheryl holds a grudge against Larry. Cheryl ends up leaving Larry and their mutual friends have to choose on picking sides, with Cheryl being chosen by nearly all of Larry's friends. Larry also goes on a date with Lucy Lawless.

Larry tries to do Auntie Rae a favor, but ends up offending her instead. Jeff's stay at the hospital to get a "snore job" opens up a new opportunity for Larry, who takes full advantage of it. Also, after Larry hears a man use a racial slur offensive to African-Americans, he can't seem to say the word while relaying that story without having African-Americans hear it. Brenda Strong guest stars in the episode.

Larry tries to curry favor with Cheryl by having his therapist (guest star Steve Coogan) fake a mugging attempt, in disguise, on Cheryl's therapist, but things go awry when his therapist is jailed and starts seeking counsel himself, unknowingly from Cheryl's therapist, and talks to her about the incident. Also, Marty Funkhouser collects pledge money under false pretenses.
"The Bat Mitzvah" Larry Charles November 11, 2007 60
As Jeff's daughter's bat mitzvah approaches, Larry uses the opportunity to make amends while putting an end to some malicious (and only half-true) gossip about the health of his anus. Larry realizes he has chemistry with Loretta, and we see a montage of Loretta and Larry's life together as a couple. (Guest starring John Legend and Michael McKean)
