In Milwaukee, a series of women have been found murdered with their hearts crudely removed. The BAU is assigned to the case, but they are short three members: Gideon, who is missing, Hotch, who is on suspension and Prentiss, who resigns her commission to join the Foreign Service. Supervisor Strauss steps in as lead, but she doesn't handle herself well in the field. Meanwhile, another woman has been kidnapped, and judging by video footage from her last known location, she was lured by a child decoy. The team formulates a profile for the killer, and recognizes that they should be looking for a child who stands out from the crowd. Back in DC, Hotch has a change of heart (after a chat with Garcia) about working the case, and he convinces Prentiss to join him on one last case. A teacher identifies one boy, David, whose father has been diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor. The boy's mother abandoned them despite the illness, driving the father to kill. The team speeds to the father's home, and they manage to rescue a school nurse who drove David home from school. The father is taken into custody, though he'll die before he stands trial. After the case ends, Reid locates the cabin where Gideon has been staying. Inside is a note addressed to Spencer. With the note are Gideon's gun and badge. Gideon has left town, heading out on the road to "nowhere in particular," in search of a happy ending. |

The team investigates a group of bodies discovered buried in various states of decomposition in Portland, Oregon. The mode of death varies dramatically, which is unusual since most killers have one MO. Soon a new disappearance comes to their attention, and it becomes clear that they are working against time. The killer is a therapist with his own set of psychoses, brought on by his on childhood abuse at the hands of his mother. He's torturing his victims by using their fears against them, while at his home, he is trying to appear normal to his wife and child. He lures his "clients" by offering cash to participate in an anxiety study, and Garcia discovers that he has set up a bogus website to make his business appear legitimate. When 12 more bodies are discovered, the desperation to find the doctor becomes even more acute. After the team creates a profile, Garcia comes up with the name of a disgraced therapist who fits all the angles. Just as he is burying yet another victim alive, the FBI storms his building. Though the doctor kills himself before he is caught, they rescue the final victim from a terrifying fate. As the team flies home, Morgan asks Hotch about his recent distraction. Hotch confesses that it's not Gideon's departure from the unit bothering him, but rather that Hotch's wife has left home. |

The BAU is called into help the local authorities in Cherry Creek, Colorado after a series of brutal home invasion murders. Quickly the team recognizes two different signatures, fitting two distinct personalities. The first man kills the parents violently, while the other drugs the children like an "angel of mercy" murderer. But the two men come under a microscope when one of their victims survives an attack. The girl, Carrie, now an orphan, says the men call each other "brother," despite the fact that they are of different races. After the team realizes the type of drugs used to kill the young children come from a pet euthanization facility, one of the men, Ervin, is identified. He and his "brother" grew up in foster care, and initially pursued the families who abused their foster children. Eventually, that wasn't enough, and they began to kill others. Ervin wanted to stop, but Gary had been abused in far worse ways, and his killings were merely rehearsals for the way he wanted to kill his destructive foster mother. Gary kidnaps a child from his mother's foster home and nearly convinces him to murder the mother, but Morgan talks the young boy out of it. Gary and Ervin go down for the killings. Prentiss is deeply affected by the story of Carrie, the girl who helped them solve the case. She wants to bring her home, but Carrie is sent to live with her cousins in Los Angeles. Though Prentiss knows it's the right thing, she can't help but wonder what it might have been like. |

When a local girl named Katie is kidnapped in the Potomac Mills mall only weeks after another child is kidnapped and murdered in a similar kidnapping, the BAU moves in. The mall is locked down while the FBI searches the stores, but it's a painstaking process. The parents are hysterical, while the girl's cousin, Jeremy, has a panic attack as he tries to remember the last time he saw Katie. A search dog locates a 24 karat gold necklace that was ripped from Katie's neck in the trash, which leads Hotch to reassess the situation. He now believes that the kidnapping a personal act of rage, and he sends the team to search the family home. Morgan identifies signs that point to Katie being molested, so Hotch separates Katie's cousin Jeremy and Uncle Richard to question them. While Reid grills Jeremy, who clearly knows something, Hotch pulls the truth out of Richard. He's been molesting the girl, but swears he wouldn't kill her. Prentiss realizes that Richard and his wife, Susan, are separated. Susan is the one who wanted to kill Katie in the hopes that her absence would cure her husband of his sickness. She finally confesses where she's hidden the girl, deep in the basement of the mall. Though Katie has no pulse when they find her, the medical team is able to revive her with Hotch's help. As Katie is taken to the hospital with her parents surrounding her, Jeremy alone must deal with the aftereffects of both his parents' misdeeds. |

306 |
A new member joins the BAU, but he's a familiar face to some of the team: David Rossi. He was one of the founding members of the unit, but he took early retirement and became a famous author. Now, Rossi's "unfinished business" has led him back to the job, and he's even willing to accept a subordinate position. Rossi's first case with the team is of a woman from Dallas who is kidnapped after she finds her home papered with "Missing" flyers with her image printed on them. When she's found dead, the team is stunned to discover that her face has been removed. Not long after, another woman goes missing, so the BAU is on a deadline. Garcia finds a clue connecting the two victims: both were associated with a technology communications company. The killer, named Max Pool, also works there, and the team moves in quickly. Once he's cornered, Max pulls a gun, but Rossi is ready for him. He shoots the man dead, possibly saving Morgan's life in the process. Max had the second woman locked up in his home, but she has survived her ordeal. |

The BAU is called in to Montana when a woman is kidnapped from a grocery store by a member of an anti-government militia, Francis Goehring. When cornered by police he blows himself up with a grenade, but the woman is nowhere to be found. After digging into Goehring's past, they find his former wife, who points them to a location where it's likely the kidnap victim was taken. There they find her dead body, skin still warm. Goehring didn't commit the recent murder; he has a partner who's still alive. But he did commit three earlier murders, and Prentiss finds each of them buried in a rose garden. Morgan and JJ question members of the local militia group, not learning much other than the partner's size. The team creates a profile of a submissive, slight built man who has been forced to take charge now that he's on his own. After watching tapes of Goehring torturing his victims, Prentiss has a realization: the unknown partner was in love with Goehring. He did Goehring's bidding, including his gardening, so the team searches local nurseries and gets a hit. Henry Frost worked at one of them, and once the BAU arrives at his home, Henry has destroyed everything of his own. He wants to transform himself into Goehring by kidnapping a young girl from a gas station. Prentiss has a lead on where Frost would have taken the girl, and the team is joined by the head of the local militia, Harris, when they arrive. As Hotch distracts Henry, Harris takes him out, saving the girl. |

When a homicidal Satanist commits an extremely violent murder in Florida, the team flies in to take the case. The religious angle stirs up memories in Morgan, who has been away from the church for years. Soon Hotch learns that the murder is only one of a long line of killings, which undoubtedly means there will be more to come. Meanwhile, Garcia fixes the computer of a handsome man in a coffee shop. She's surprised when he asks for her number, but gives it to him. When Morgan advises that the guy is weird and she should turn him down, she's hurt by his insensitivity and blows up at him. She calls her new friend back and makes a date. In Florida, another girl disappears, followed by yet another from the search team who is looking for the first. When a victim who disappeared nine months prior turns up, Hotch has a realization: the killer is freezing and ingesting parts of his victims. After a search of local mental institutions, the case of a young man released at 18 fits the bill. They get a name: Floyd Feylinn, and they arrive at his home before he has a chance to kill his last victim. But he did worse than just kill and eat these women; he also fed one of them to the group of volunteers who were searching for the very woman they consumed. Back in DC, Morgan returns to an empty church to pray. Across town, Garcia goes on her date. Just when things are looking wonderful, her date's true motivation is revealed when he pulls a gun and shoots her. |

Garcia has been shot, but still alive on the stoop of her building. Though Garcia's heart stops on the table, she pulls through. She answers what questions she can about her date, but the results don't lead anywhere. Meanwhile, her "date," James Colby Baylor actually shows up at the scene the following day, stunned to find out she survived. Another computer expert, Kevin, works with Garcia's computer to find possible suspects, but an encrypted file on the machine results in Garcia suspended and the team removed from the case. She confesses that she's been encrypting information about the team's movements since her system was hacked last year, but it's against the rules. Morgan brings Garcia home, but that doesn't stop Baylor from killing a police officer in an attempt to get at her a second time. As she recalls more details about him, Hotch realizes that the man is in law enforcement, and after doing a search, Garcia finds his picture. He went after her because she flagged certain cases in the system as priorities, mainly to ease the minds of the victims' families that she volunteers with. Baylor aka Jason Clark Battle, committed three of the murders in the cases, and then served as first responder to be seen as a hero. He shows up at the BAU to get involved in Garcia's case, but Kevin recognizes him and alerts the team. JJ is the only one with a clear shot, and she takes it, killing Baylor. In the end, Garcia meets Kevin, and she thinks that maybe everything that's happened was for a very good reason. |

The team arrives in Los Angeles to cover the crimes of a serial killer in the midst of a psychotic break. Multiple brutal murders have occurred in a two week span, and the team focuses on a three block radius surrounding the scenes. Soon, six gang-bangers turn up dead in a nearby neighborhood, with the gang leader missing. The MO is the same as the other murders, which means the killer has ventured out of his territory for a reason. Meanwhile, Jonny McHale, a young, famous graphic novel author is going through a breakdown of his own. He experiences constant flashbacks of being with a woman, Vicki, who was pregnant. They were happy and deeply in love, but now she refuses to return his calls. His work has become more violent of late, and his manager takes his new drawings to the police. He thinks Jonny is sick, and it turns out that he's right. The team discovers that a bunch of thugs; led by Glen Hill, the head of the gang; raped and killed Vicki in front of Jonny and nearly eviscerated him six months before. They capture Jonny, who has no memory of the killings, or of Vicki's murder. It's only when he's confronted with the facts of his recent tragedy that he confesses and reveals the location of Glen Hill. The gang leader is dead, but he suffered dearly beforehand. |

When a series of women go missing in Fredericksburg, Virginia, the team takes the case. Jareau is having a tough time with this one, since most of the victims, burned and mutilated, are women around her age. Soon Garcia turns up evidence of another series of killings that took place in the same town in the 80s, identifying one woman who survived. Karen Fowler escaped her attacker, but she refuses to help the BAU. After a profile is put together, the sheriff who worked the original series of cases identifies a likely suspect: Robert Wilkinson, who died right around the time the murder streak ended. Mary Wilkinson has nothing to add, and neither does her son, Charlie, who is married with a baby on the way. Meanwhile, Karen Fowler's son is Steven identified as the child of the rape Robert committed on Karen. Steven is a suspect, but the profile doesn't fit. However, Charlie Wilkinson has a history of violence and a DUI, and when he doesn't show up for work, the BAU moves in. They don't find him, but with Mary and Karen's help, they locate two of the missing girls, alive. Mary also confesses to killing Robert after finding out that he'd committed murder. The team sets off in search of Charlie, but Charlie's wife Chrissy finds him first. She's angry, and refuses to bring her child into a life with a murderer for a father. With one shot, she kills him, just as the team arrives. |

Two teenagers have vanished, and the team finds themselves standing over the freshly dug grave of one of them. Her name is Katie, and her friend Lindsey is still missing. After investigating Lindsey's background, they begin to suspect she is a victim of ongoing abuse, until the truth is revealed. She and her father, Jack, are members of the witness protection program. Jack has turned state's evidence against two members of the Irish mob in Boston, and he's about to testify in the case.
However, the killers are not related to the mob; they are a group of male teens, led by a sadistic young man named Ryan. When one of the boys tried to disassociate from Ryan and the group, he ended up dead. Bruce, Katie's father, soon learns about Jack's past as a member of the mob, and he encourages the man to lead his own investigation. Bruce is out for revenge, and Jack agrees--he'll do anything to find his daughter.
Jack makes good progress, going so far as shooting one of the boys involved to get information, but the BAU is hot on his trail. Jack finds Ryan just as he is about to rape Lindsey. As Jack aims his shotgun at Ryan's head, Reid bursts in and tries to convince Jack to back off. But Lindsey begs her father to kill Ryan, revealing how he laughed as he tortured Katie to death. Jack pulls the trigger. He may even get away with the murder because of his status as a witness, but the team can do nothing about it.

An auction for the contents of self-storage facility in Philadelphia uncovers a roomful of items that might be indicators of a serial killer in the making. Rossi and Reid head up to investigate, and the items sway Rossi into believing they have a killer on their hands. As the team dissects the history of their UNSUB, they find a victim from four years prior matching the signature of the killer. Three more bodies turn up, but they believe the killer has become better at hiding his victims over the years. One element holds the team back: Jill Morris, a case agent from the Philadelphia field office. She manufactured evidence to lure Rossi to the case, then puts herself in front of the media to make a name for herself, and the killer. Drawn in by the public attention, the UNSUB calls into the tip line, revealing the location of two more victims. But the killer wants to write the rest of his story with Jill's help, by kidnapping both her and a reporter for the local news. Garcia is eventually able to triangulate the location of the killer as he begins to torture Jill, and she is rescued just in time. However, the reporter, a friend of Jill's, doesn't make it. Jill is now forever linked to the killer; in a twisted way she got what she wanted. But how will she live with the consequences? |
