List of Cold Case episodes

This is a episode list for the CBS television series Cold Case.

Seasons 1 through 3 comprised 23 hour-long episodes each, while Season 4 included an additional episode for a total of 24. Season 5, the series' current season, began airing on September 23, 2007 and will comprise of 18 episodes.

As of May 4, 2008, 111 episodes of Cold Case have aired.

A petty crook hoping to get a reduced sentence relates witnessing a young man washing blood out of his car the night a teen track runner was murdered.

  • Loosely based on the murder of 1995 murder of Adrienne Jones by Diane Zamora and David Graham.

A 75-year-old woman comes to Lilly seeking justice for her dead son, a college baseball player, the victim of a gay-bashing incident in 1964.

  • Lilly,the victim´s mother, The victim´s friend/lover and the key witness to the crime that helped to solve the case see the victim in the original crime scene. The victim and his mother exchange a smile while the victim and his friend/lover share an embrace. Then, at the end we see the victim begins to walk and he vanishes. A touching ending.

After a woman emerges from a two-year coma with no memory of her identity or her daughter's death, the detectives investigate the fall in which the little girl died.

Lilly gets an anonymous phone call from a man claiming he killed an elderly woman back in 1989 and buried her body in the basement of a house.

When new evidence is found Lilly re-opens the case of a hitchhiker found murdered in 1997 near Atlantic City.

Lilly and Scott re-open the unsolved killing of an unknown 6-year-old boy found in a field inside a cardboard box in 1958.

  • This was based on the real-life case of "The Boy In The Box", a still-unsolved Philadelphia case. In fact this episode created controversy by creating the impression the case had been solved.
  • Both Lilly and the boy's foster sister see him.

The discovery of a body with several bullet holes at the site of a disco destroyed in a 1978 fire — a suspected arson —where there were also twenty-two other victims leads Rush and Valens to re-investigate the circumstances of the fire.

Human remains found in the excavation for a new building lead Rush and Valens to investigate the unsolved deaths of a man and a woman in their mid-20s who disappeared in 1969.

Rush and Valens re-open the 1987 case of Philadelphia high school basketball star Herman Lester, found stabbed to death hours after leading his team to the State Championship.

  • Lilly looks on at the same high school floor where the victim's son looks up a banner honoring his father's number and then the scene goes down where the father is standing in the son's place.

Rush and Valens investigate a 1999 case involving the death of man involved in a hit-and-run accident on New Year’s Eve after a woman comes forward as the possible culprit.

A current murder case leads Rush and Valens to re-open a cold case from 1992 involving a young woman killed after leaving a political event on election night.

Rush is called in to investigate a 14-year-old unsolved homicide of a woman who was murdered in front of her child.

The 1999 drowning death of a military academy's swim coach, which was originally ruled as accidental, is reinvestigated after the homicide division receives a note that suggests it was murder.

  • The victim, a pedophile, is seen looking from pool reflection.

As the first season ends, Lilly reopens a 1986 case in which a 15-year-old girl was killed at a popular lovers lane: DNA evidence has revealed that an innocent man was convicted of the crime. The new investigation turns the spotlight on several men who were attracted to the teen and may have had motive to kill her.

  • The case loosely based on the 1999 murder of Krystal Dawn Steadman at the hands of Thomas Soria Sr. and Jr.
  • The boyfriend of the victim sees her at the lake where the crime occurred.

When a 19-year-old girl turns up with a solid gold bracelet that she claims belonged to her dead mother, Lilly and the team re-open the 1991 case of the Cambodian immigrants who were brutally murdered in their home in what was then believed to be a robbery. When it's revealed that the dead couple hid their identity in order to evade deportation, Lilly must piece together who these people really were.

  • The victim is not seen, largely because the case was not solved and the killer was not arrested.

The discovery of nine human skulls leads Rush back to George Marks, the serial killer she was unable to incriminate months earlier, and who walked away a free man. As the detectives reinvestigate his mother's murder from 1972, Marks emerges from hiding to face Rush again.

Lilly re-opens the 1999 case of a young, healthy woman who nevertheless died of a heart attack. In the late 1990s, she was briefly an Internet millionaire, but due to bad business decisions, her dot.com company eventually went bust.

  • The victim's sister sees her kayaking the lake where her body was found.
  • This is the first time 2 episodes in a row(Saving Patrick Bubley and Start Up) solve cases from the same year(1999)

When a box filled with POW support bracelets is found in an abandoned drug den, Det. Rush re-investigates the shooting of Carl, a veteran of the Vietnam War who came back in 1972 and was killed in 1973.

  • Lt. Stillman sees the victim because both were Vietnam veterans who were psychologically scarred by the experience. They exchange a salute.

When a fisherman finds evidence of a young girl's death washed up on a shore in New Jersey, Lilly re-opens the 1965 case of 4-year-old child who had a seemingly abusive father.

  • Both Lilly and victim's twin sister see her and the twins share an embrace.
  • Although the murderer had died before he was caught, he is posthumously disgraced when Stillman asks the bartender to remove his picture from the wall and It's not specified if he was killed really in line of duty or someone killed him as revenge for what he did

The team re-opens the 2001 case of a robbed and murdered deli owner when the brother of the man convicted of the crime brings forth new evidence, suggesting the man may have been wrongfully accused.

  • The cleared suspect greets the detectives at his new deli, presumably financed by the settlement he received from the state for his wrongful conviction. He sees the victim smiling at him from the doorway.

Four close high school friends each went their separate ways in 1980. Eight years later, in 1988, one of them was murdered. The homicide team receives a tip about the murder, prompting a re-investigation of the case and an examination of the friends' lives, hopes and dreams after high school.

When a note connected to a supposed suicide is found, the team re-opens the 1994 case of a high-school kid who fell from the roof of the school building after having served detention. At the time, the death was deemed a suicide, but the newly-found note indicates that the victim might have been fearing for his life.

Lilly re-opens the 1968 case of an 18-year-old girl who died -- apparently accidentally -- at the night of her debutante ball. Now her mother comes forth with new evidence when a local art dealer is accused of murdering his wife in the same manner the girl died.

The case of a female bank teller shot to death in her work in 2000 is reopened when the same bank is robbed again by perpetrators wearing identical masks and equipped with identical weapons as six years earlier.

The 1998 case of a female drug smuggler is re-opened. The woman was involved with Scotty at the time he was working undercover on a high-profile drug case, and he has been keeping it a secret from the team for all these years.

Lily is informed by a man to read the file of a boy that was buried alive in 1980, because the man did it. The man then reveals that he has just buried another boy and then proceeds to give the team clues to where to find him. However the Cold Case team will have to dig deeper into the previous case to discover the man's MO to discover where his latest victim is buried.

  • Lilly sees the victim just as the other boy is finally rescued.

When a poison-soaked towel turns up at the station, Lilly re-opens the 1973 case of a murdered female college tennis star.

  • Rush sees the victim playing tennis and wee see right away that the victim is sad because she never felt someone cared about her really, All people cared about was her talent playing tennis, and nothing else.

The team re-opens the 2002 case of a murdered amateur actor when the owner of a local community theater finds a gun hidden inside prop furniture.

  • Lilly sees the victim while she hands the opening night playbill to his fiancée.

Lilly re-opens the 1929 case of a woman found dead in a ravine on Christmas Day when the victim's great-granddaughter comes in asking for help. Meanwhile, Lilly's estranged mother shows up, hoping to re-connect with her daughter.

  • Another first, the murderer's grandson sees his grandfather and looks very disappointed.

When a new witness steps forward, Lilly and the team are prompted to re-open the 1984 shooting of a respected and beloved ER doctor who had a secret he had been hiding from his family.

  • Due to the fact this was a massacre, the two shooters are seen by the parents of one of them and the son ends up looking away probably due to realizing the shame of his actions.

When a fingernail is found at a pool where there was an accidental death, Lily and Scotty re-open the case. The Williams family appears to be the perfect family, but as Lilly and Scotty investigate they find that the family was very dysfunctional. The matriarch who drowned in the pool was stranded with her ex-husband, two children and grandchild during a snow storm. As the investigation continues, it appears that nearly everyone there had a motive to kill her as she held money over her daughter's head and sexually abused her son and attempted to do the same to her grandson.

  • Lilly sees the unsympathetic victim near the pool, looking at her reflection in the water. Some may say that the victim is looking at her reflection instead of Lily because she's ashamed of her crimes; and because of her being arrogant and lived by her vanity, her punishment is staring at the pool where she was murdered.

As the team investigates they discover that her murder had to do with her activism for women's rights and her defiance of her family. Meanwhile, Lilly has to get her drunken mother out of jail.

  • Lilly sees the victim on the street and they exchange a smile largely because the victim's work paved the way for women like Lilly to have the careers they have. Also, the great grand niece of Frances sees the woman that was in charge of women's rights in a classroom. The daughter of Frances' maid, sees her at the police station after receiving a letter from Detectives Vera and Miller.

The FBI asks the team to re-open a cold case involving the murder of a longshoreman whose death might be related to a human trafficking ring the FBI is trying to bring down. Through the investigation, the team learns that the man was trying to help one of the girls and was murdered by another when he refused to help her as well. Meanwhile, Lilly's mother ends up in the hospital with liver damage due to her drinking and Lilly must bring her mother to live with her.

  • Lt. Stillman sees the victim (because he too was a longshoreman) and the girl that the victim tried to save also sees him.

When a nurse confesses to six mercy killings, the cold case detectives re-open the 1998 case involving a terminally ill man who died while under the care of the nurse. But as the detectives investigate the case they realize there were a lot of people who wanted to see the man dead. However, the murder turns out to be a mercy killing, just not by the man they believed did it. Meanwhile, Lily struggles to help her alcoholic mother.

When an injured girl starts regaining her memory about the night her family was killed, the team investigates. Meanwhile, Lilly's mother dies while she's at work. When Lilly returns to work to take her mind off of things, the team is taken hostage by the killer they are searching for. The Captain is shot when snipers try to take out the killer. He freaks out and takes the girl, Lilly goes with them into the interrogation room. Before the killer dies, he shoots her as well.

  • The girl sees her family after the shooting in the police station. Some may say that the girl's mother could be labeled unsympathetic because if it wasn't for her carelessness by using her daughter's picture on line in the chat room, they would've been alive and well.

  • Although the flashback shows that the victim was killed in revenge, due to the young age of the murderer at the time in question and the vileness of the victim, the detectives declare the killing as an act of self-defense, a first.

The team re-opens the 1945 case of a Japanese-American man killed outside an Army-Navy football game. After his daughter, born in an internment camp during WWII, informs Lily that the family had only recently relocated to Philadelphia, it becomes evident that the police had originally looked in the wrong place for the killer.

  • Lilly sees the murdered father and the son, who was killed in action, looking at his family. There is no music but an original monologue accompanying the scene.

  • A fifth victim is seen by her baby daughter on the television screen in a home movie.

In the season finale, a drug addict mother, who lost her son in an apartment fire in 2005, comes forth claiming she just saw the same child in the park.

  • A first: the addict's son is found alive, but the identity of the child who was found dead in the fire is unknown.
