[edit] Kenai
Kenai is the main protagonist of Brother Bear. After his brother Sitka is killed saving him from a bear, Kenai sets out to slay the bear. He does so, but for acting out of hate instead of love, the spirit of Sitka turns Kenai into a bear.
[edit] Koda
Koda is a young, boisterous bear cub. He befriends Kenai and the two travel to the salmon run together.
[edit] Rutt and Tuke
Rutt and Tuke are two moose brothers. They are two of the first animals that Kenai stumbles across after being transformed into a bear, and the only ones willing to talk to him.
[edit] Sitka
Sitka is one of Kenai's brothers. He dies while saving his two brothers from a bear. After Kenai kills the bear out of hate and revenge, Sitka appears in front of his brother as a spirit and transforms Kenai into a bear.
[edit] Denahi
Denahi is one of Kenai's brothers. He advises Kenai against avenging Sitka's death as it may anger the spirits, but Kenai sets out to kill the bear anyway. Kenai does so and is transformed into a bear by Sitka. As Denahi arrives at the scene of the fight, he sees scraps of his brother's clothes and Kenai in his bear form. Believing that his brother lost the fight and was also killed by the bear, Denahi begins to hunt Kenai's bear form relentlessly across the wilderness, not understanding that the bear is actually his brother.

Tanana is the tribal shaman woman in Kenai's tribe. She gives tribe members their totems when they are of age. As Kenai awakes as a bear after being swept along by a river, she tells him that he must travel to the "mountain where the lights touch the earth" to be changed back into a man by Sitka.

Tug is a large, friendly bear who Koda and Kenai encounter at the salmon run.

[edit] Nita
Nita is a childhood friend of Kenai's. As children, they were bonded together spiritually by an amulet. Nita attempts to marry a man from another village, Atka, but the spirits prevent it because she is still bonded to Kenai. For the spirits to allow her to marry Atka, Kenai and Nita must travel to Hokani Falls and burn the amulet together.

Innoko is the tribal "sha-woman" in Nita's tribe.
