List of British reptiles

Six species of reptiles breed naturally in Great Britain: three snakes and three lizards. They are:

• Adder Vipera berus
• Grass Snake Natrix natrix
• Smooth Snake Coronella austriaca

• Slow-worm Anguis fragilis
• Common Lizard Zootoca vivipara
• Sand Lizard Lacerta agilis

Some marine chelonians have been recorded as coastal vagrants. These include:

• Leatherback Sea Turtle, Dermochelys coriacea
• Green Sea Turtle, Chelonia mydas
• Hawksbill, Eretmochelys imbricata
• Loggerhead Sea Turtle, Caretta caretta
• Kemp's Ridley, Lepidochelys kempii

In addition, the following species have either become naturalised or have bred at least once in the wild in the UK:

• European Pond Terrapin, Emys orbicularis
• Red-eared Terrapin, Trachemys scripta elegans — not established
• European green lizard, Lacerta viridis
• Common Wall Lizard, Podarcis muralis
• Aesculapian Snake, Elaphe longissima
• Dice Snake, Natrix tessellata
