There were a number of provincial parks, protected areas and ecological reserves in the Gulf Islands that were recently transferred to the national park system, specifically Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. Other national parks found in British Columbia include Glacier National Park, Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site, Kootenay National Park, Mount Revelstoke National Park, Pacific Rim National Park Reserve and Yoho National Park. [edit] Ecological Reserves

Ecological reserves are not created for outdoor recreation. Most ecological reserves, however, are open to the public for non-destructive pursuits like hiking, nature observation and photography. Consumptive activities like hunting, freshwater fishing, camping, livestock grazing, removal of materials, plants or animals are prohibited by regulation in ecological reserves. Motorized vehicles are not allowed.

[edit] Recreation areas

Recreation areas is land set aside for recreational use by the public. It is also land that is currently being evaluated by BC Parks from both a protected area value and an economic opportunity perspective to determine whether the area should be "upgraded" to full protected area status or returned to integrated resource management lands.
