From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bleach Bount Assault on Soul Society arc is the fifth story arc of the Bleach anime series. The episodes are directed by Noriyuki Abe and produced by TV Tokyo, Dentsu, and Studio Pierrot. This arc and the previous one are not adaptations of the manga, instead produced independently as filler in order to allow Tite Kubo to publish more material.

The arc initially ran from August 2006 until January 2007 in Japan on TV Tokyo. The first English airing of the series has yet to be announced.

Currently four pieces of theme music have been used for the episodes; two opening themes and two ending themes. The opening theme for the first six episodes is "TONIGHT, TONIGHT, TONIGHT" by Beat Crusaders; the rest use "Rolling star" by Yui. The initial ending theme is "MOVIN!!" by Takacha, switching at episode 98 to "Baby It's You" by JUNE. In addition, the opening and ending themes for episodes 106 to 109 use footage from the Bleach movie, Bleach: Memories of Nobody, as a promotional event.

General Yamamoto calls a meeting of all the captains, informing them that the Bounts have arrived in Rukongai and that Hitsugaya has been put in charge of capturing the intruders. However, the last standing order he gives is to kill anyone who seems to be an intruder without hesitation.

Arriving in Rukongai, Jin Kariya and Koga Gowa are quickly found by Ōmaeda and Tetsuzaemon Iba and their troops. However, Koga easily dispatches the Soul Reapers with his doll and flattens Ōmaeda as he cowers in fear from Dalk. Tetsuzaemon doesn't want to fight someone who isn't armed with a sword, but attacks Koga anyway. However, Koga catches Tetsuzaemon's zanpakutō with one hand. Jin Kariya then flings Tetsuzaemon through a wall and into a nearby house.

Ichigo and the others also make it into Soul Society. Instead of going straight to Sereitei, Yoruichi decides to ask Kūkaku if they can stay at her house while they search for the Bounts and collect data on a person called Rantao - the one responsible for creating the Bounts. Kūkaku agrees after beating up Ichigo and Ganju, but she is still curious and asks Yoruichi to tell her everything. Yoruichi then explains that Ichinose used his zanpakutō's abilities to sneak back into Sereitei, and manipulated the information on Mayuri's computer to perk his interest in with the Bounts. Mayuri fell for it and helped Ishida replace his powers, which led to the Bounts gaining entry into Soul Society.

Meanwhile Yamamoto is explaining the origins of the Bounts to the captains, however, during this mission a messenger interrupts to give the message that Rukia is fighting a Bount. The 13th Division moves out to help her.

Rukia nears her limit, having used all of her energy, but there seems to be no effect on the Bount. The final blow is about to be dealt to the injured Rukia when Captain Byakuya Kuchiki comes and overwhelms Yoshi. Looking on, several buildings in Seireitei explode.

She explains that they couldn't use normal souls for the experiment, and used their own souls as templates for the creation of new souls for the experiment. The Bounts' dolls work the same way as a Soul Reaper's zanpakutō. It is revealed that Ichinose is the one who erased the Bount data; he waits in the forest to fight Hitsugaya, Ichigo, Renji, and Matsumoto while Kariya prepares to attack Seireitei.

Telling everyone to leave, Zaraki and Ichinose battle. Zaraki blocks every attack Ichinose makes. Ichinose uses his shikai, and eventually cuts Zaraki on the shoulder. Getting desperate, he uses his zanpakutō's shikai ability to trap Zaraki within a bright sphere. Zaraki easily escapes by removing his eyepatch, releasing his full spiritual energy.

Telling him to give up, Zaraki walks away as Ichinose is left with a huge wound across his chest. Ichinose refuses, and the two face off as auras surround both of them. Zaraki notices that Ichinose is giving it all, but slices him through the chest, apparently killing him.

Ichigo and the others eventually reach Seireitei with an injured Jidanbō's help.

Soifon and the Executive Militia separate to try and find the Bounts. Mabashi and his doll, Ritz, quickly dispose of most of them and control some of them. Sensing that Mabashi has done a good job, Sawatari walks away as Mayuri Kurotsuchi un-camouflages himself from the wall.

The Executive Militia reports to Soifon. One of the members is infested with Ritz and attacks Soifon with a single bitto

Soifon has been infected with a poison which quickly begins to incapacitate her, while the full effects of Rizu's control are seen when her militia, and other infected Soul Reapers start attacking each other, while other groups try to stop Ichigo, Renji and Chad.

Komamura and Hisagi, after fending off some Rizu-controlled shinigami, ask Captain Unohana if she can cure the infected personnel. Unohana cannot do this without full knowledge of Mabashi's technique, but she is able to sedate them.

Soifon manages to reach a deserted area, where she runs into Mabashi. After a short fight during which Soifon does manage to hit Mabashi once with her Suzumebachi, placing the Homonka on his chest, she becomes severely weakened and begins to turn blind. Mabashi leaves her to die, and after thinking of Yoruichi, Soifon tries to find a way to regain strength.

Mabashi returns to watch Soifon die, she summons the last of her militia to attack him, but they are also controlled by Rizu and hold her down so Mabashi can infect her too to use her as a tool to fight the other captains. Just when Rizu is about to pierce through Soifon, she suddenly fights back with full strength. She reveals that Suzumebachi has the ability to counteract poisons, an important ability for the head of the special forces. With her regained strength, she pierces Mabashi again and kills him.

Yoshi and Sawatari notice Mabashi's spiritual energy disappearing, and both decide to cause more havoc. Sawatari is met by Mayuri Kurotsuchi, who vows to make him pay for his humiliation at the hands of the Bount, as the episode ends.

Mayuri proposes that Sawatari become one of his research subjects because of his renewed interest in the Bounts. Sawatari declines and starts attacking Mayuri and manages to rip his left arm off.

Mayuri heals himself and counterattacks, limiting Sawatari's doll Baura's movement. The plan works and he manages to pierce Sawatari using his zanpakutō, Ashisogi Jizō. Sawatari then fends him off and starts absorbing spirit particles to heal his injuries, but the zanpakutō's effects linger, as he can no longer use his right arm.

Sawatari escapes into another dimension and plans his next moves. He tries luring Mayuri but is caught off-guard when Mayuri reveals that he knew this plan all along, and explains to him that he can track him even if he slips into another dimension. Sawatari then proceeds to attack Mayuri using the absorbed spiritual power of other Soul Reapers in earlier battles. The attacks severely injures Mayuri and he is forced to summon his bankai, Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo.

Baura is then ordered to swallow the bankai's poison but the latter proves fatal and crushes both Sawatari and his doll in a counter-attack. Sawatari, defeated and ailing, pleads for his life and agrees to be Mayuri's research subject. The captain, thoroughly agitated at this point, refuses, letting his bankai's poison kill the Bount.

Meanwhile, Yoshi, another Bount, is challenged to a fight by Uryū Ishida.

"Saigo no kuinshī! Bōhatsu suru chikara" (最後のクインシー!暴発する力)

Ishida and Yoshi begin their combat and Ishida quickly realizes that the power of the Quincy bracelet is variable. He eventually is able to concentrate and fire a powerful blast, which Yoshi blocks by fusing with her doll, Nieder, and using the giant fan to block the blow. Yoshi also exhibits another new power as she fuses with Nieder's sword half, and is able to use the "Eight Swords" attack on Ishida. Barely able to dodge, Ishida is eventually knocked to the ground.

Meanwhile, Kariya breaks into the Bureau of Technology and easily dispatches many Soul Reapers, including Nemu. He declares that he is searching for a crest. Kariya is confronted by Chad and Ichigo, who activates his bankai, starting the battle. As the fight commences, a hole is blown in the floor and Kariya sees the crest beneath. By fusing with the crest, which has stored energy which was used to create the Bounts, Kariya declares he has enough power to destroy Seiretei at any moment, but he will give the Soul Reapers "One day to cower in fear." He promptly disappears before Ichigo can attack him.

Meanwhile, Nieder comments on how it was a pity that Ishida was defeated so easily. As Yoshi turns to leave, Ishida fires a giant energy arrow as the episode ends.

Kariya shuns the only other Bount, Koga, who was beginning to doubt him and said that Kariya was out of his mind to destroy Seireitei. Kariya injures him, but lets him live. Somewhere else Koga is wandering around when he meets some shinigami and they force him to fight. Hitsugaya's division member runs to alert the captain and both Hitsugaya and Matsumoto run toward the incident.

Hitsugaya and Matsumoto, with the help of the 10th division, are pursuing Koga. Koga, whilst apparently not killing anyone, easily takes down several 10th division units before finally meeting and fighting captain Hitsugaya. Hitsugaya quickly overpowers Koga's doll, Dalk, freezing and shattering her. Koga then reveals an axe which he tells Hitsugaya is Dalk's core. Koga, now armed with Dalk's core, then proceeds to fight Hitsugaya. Soon, Koga's body appears to be unable to support the large amount of spirit power he's been absorbing throughout the fight. Koga manages to launch a final attack on Hitsugaya, and Hitsugaya slashes him in the stomach. Koga, dying, then briefly reveals his motives, alluding to "a future without war", before falling to the ground and getting buried in ice previously made by Hitsugaya.

Hitsugaya returns from his battle with Koga. Ichigo and his friends are currently using Hitsugaya's office as a temporary base. Hitsugaya tells his subordinants to search for Koga's body and give him a proper burial. Meanwhile, 8th division lieutenant Nanao Ise tells Commander General Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryūsai about the Bount crest. The next day, Rantao confronts Kariya with a kidō gun, which she effectively uses to Kariya's surprise. Soon after seeing the Bount crest emblazoned on Kariya's chest, Rantao has a flashback, revealing additional details about the Bount's past. Rantao initially hid the Bount away in a cave city, while returning to Soul Society to request protection for the Bount, however, Central Room 46 calls the Bount a failed experiment and orders them wiped out. The revelation is that the child that Rantao rescued in the Soul Reapers' purge of the Bount cave was none other than Jin Kariya. Ishida feels the spiritual power of Rantao and goes off to find her, knowing that Kariya is there too. The episode ends as Rantao is seen getting hit by one of Kariya's attacks.
106 "Life and Revenge! Ishida, the Ultimate Choice"
"Inochi to fukushū! Ishida, kyūkyoku no sentaku" (命と復讐!石田、究極の選択)
December 6, 2006
The episode starts off as Jin Kariya remembers the events that led up to the purging of the bount many years ago. He remembers their escape from the cave and the attacks by the hollow. Kariya's transformation is shown as he was about to be killed by a hollow. Kariya then remarks on how he was eventually deserted by his fellow bount. After a horrible loss to the Soul Reapers after attempting to use the Quincy to reenter Soul Society, Kariya explains how he rounded up the remaining bount in order to attack Soul Society. Just as Kariya is about to kill Rantao, Ishida steps in and attacks Kariya, showing his mastery of his battle artifact. Ishida then explains Yoshino's warning that pointless fighting would only destroy the bount. As Ishida's battle accessory weakens, Rantao steps in and uses Jōkaishō's power to render Kariya incapable of fighting. Though Rantao urges Ishida to shoot him, Ishida intentionally doesn't attack Kariya with his full power, afraid of hurting Rantao. Suddenly, Rantao's reiatsu goes out of control as a result of using the Bount power. Ishida uses a technique which he used in episode 14, which released excess reiatsu from Ichigo. However, this fully erodes the Quincy battle accessory and Ishida is left defenseless. As Kariya is about to kill Ishida and Rantao, Ichigo steps in and the episode ends.
107 "The Swung-Down Edge! The Moment of Ruin"
"Furiorosareta ha! Hametsu no shunka" (振り下ろされた刃!破滅の瞬間)
December 13, 2006
Kariya is about to kill both Ishida and Rantao, but Ichigo steps in and blocks his attack. Ichigo shows off his black getsuga tenshō as he battles Kariya in bankai form. Rantao reveals that there are multiple Jōkaishō scattered throughout Soul Society. Suddenly, Maki Ichinose shows up, revealing that he had not been killed by Captain Zaraki Kenpachi after all. Ichinose attacks Ichigo, who is caught by surprise. The Gotei 13 and their respective squads have been told to re-seal all 10 of the Jōkaishō around Soul Society, in order to prevent Kariya from blowing them up simultaneously. Meanwhile, Ichinose and Ichigo fight, but then Ichinose turns his sword on Kariya, stating his true intentions for joining the Bount. Kariya kills Ichinose out of annoyance. He then reveals his doll, Messer, in the form of a wind sword. The episode ends as Rukia asks Renji to take her to the Sōkyoku hill where Ichigo and Kariya are fighting.
108 "The Wailing Bount! The Last Clash"
"Dōkoku no baunto! Saigo no gekitotsu" (慟哭のバウント!最後の激突)
December 20, 2006
The battle between Ichigo and Kariya continues. Kariya reveals his doll, Messer's true form, which uses wind friction that generates static electricity which becomes lightning. Kariya declares that he plans to release all of the Jōkaishō by releasing one, which will obliterate everything in Soul Society. Rukia and Renji arrive on the battle scene. Rukia proceeds to go help Ichigo, but Renji pulls her back, telling her that it is Ichigo's fight. Suddenly, Ichigo's hollow persona reveals itself momentarily in the form of an eye color change, catching Kariya by surprise. He reveals that he can no longer absorb spirit particles because Rantao sealed his absorption skills. The scene shifts to the efforts of the other squads in sealing the scattered Jōkaishō. Kariya then attempts to explode a Jōkaishō, but Byakuya Kuchiki uses his bankai to stop his attempt. Yoruichi appears at Byakuya's side, revealing their intentions to prevent Kariya from attempting to explode further Jōkaishō. Before Kariya is about to finish off Ichigo, Ichinose Maki's zanpakuto saves him by absorbing the lightning. Inoue, Chad and Ishida arrive at the scene but Rukia tells them not to help Ichigo, reflecting on how Ichigo is split between the human and spiritual worlds in a similar way Kariya Jin is, and this similarity means Ichigo may be the only one who can defeat him. They launch final attacks at each other, after which Kariya expresses his sadness at not being able to see what happens to Ichigo, and then disintegrates. This leaves Ichigo in a sense of deep thought, wondering whether Kariya's intentions all along were to end his eternal life.
109 "Ichigo and Rukia, Thoughts in the Revolving Sky"
"Ichigo to Rukia, kaiten suru omoi" (一護とルキア、廻天する想い)
January 4, 2007

With the threat of Kariya now gone, the group relaxes. Rukia goes back to the Kuchiki house to continue her recovery, while Ichigo and Renji discuss Kariya's life. They all go on to reminisce about their own lives; Ichigo on the days before his life-changing encounter with Rukia; Renji on his promotion to 6th Division lieutenant; and Rukia on the day she was told she would be going to the real world.

Meanwhile, Koga Gowa wakes up in Rantao's home. He had survived his fight with Hitsugaya, and was found and taken back to Rantao by Yoruichi. Upon discovering he is the only remaining Bount, he apologizes for the Bounts' actions, in particular for Kariya. He remains with Rantao.

The group returns to the real world, while in Karakura Town, a figure (Shinji Hirako) stands upon a post just as Rukia did the night before her encounter with Ichigo.
