List of Australian rugby union teams

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The highest level of provincial rugby union in Australia is the Super 14. There are four Australian teams in this competition which also features teams from New Zealand and South Africa.

At present, Australia has no national club competition. The Australian Rugby Championship, which was launched in 2007 with eight teams, only lasted one season before the nation's governing body, the Australian Rugby Union, pulled the plug on the league due to financial losses. The two strongest club competitions are the Sydney and Brisbane club competitions. These are governed by the New South Wales Rugby Union and Queensland Rugby Union.

Each state has a rugby competition, run by the local state rugby union. Competitions are also run by the New South Wales Country Rugby Union, Queensland Country Rugby Union and New South Wales Suburban Rugby Union.
