From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This List of Australian Football League grounds lists every ground upon which a senior VFL/AFL game has been played. Australian rules football is played on a grassed oval, according to the specifications in the Laws of Australian football, with average dimensions of 170m×135m. Most Australian rules football grounds are also used for other sports, such as cricket, rugby, soccer or the the Olympic games, and for events such as rock concerts or exhibitions.

[edit] Current major grounds

The following grounds are the main grounds used by each team. Below is the names of each team who has had the ground as a home ground, and the years.

† Melbourne home games at the 'Gabba are exclusively against the Brisbane Lions, and are part of a deal between the two clubs whereby Brisbane pays Melbourne. This deal between Melbourne and Brisbane ended in the 2007 season and is yet to be re-negotiated.

[edit] Current minor grounds

These grounds are used infrequently by their home teams, and are found in different cities or states to the team's main base.

[edit] Former major grounds

These grounds were used by VFL/AFL teams as their main home base for some period of time; most of them were suburban, and many are still used as training grounds.

[edit] Former minor grounds

There are two main reasons why minor grounds were played on: to spread the game to other parts of the country, such as in Round 8, 1952; or the main grounds being occupied by servicemen during the wars.

[edit] Pre-season venues

Most of the current premiership venues have also been used in pre-season matches.
