[edit] Possible future orders

A number of airlines are in discussions about ordering A350s or rumoured to be in such discussions. The following gives an overview of some of these.

  • Air France-KLM. [47]
  • AirAsia X is in negotiations to buy 25 A350s, possibly with up to 25 options. [48]
  • Air Blue of Pakistan announced at the 2007 Dubai Air Show that they were in negotiation with Airbus for an unspecified number of A350 XWBs.[49]
  • Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa are considering the A350 and its competitor, the Boeing 787, as part of their long haul fleet replacement programs.[50][51]
  • British Airways is examining the Airbus A350, along with the Boeing 777-300ER and the proposed Boeing 787-10, as a replacement for its remaining 747-400 fleet. The decision is expected by late 2008 to early 2009. [52]
  • Cathay Pacific has expressed interest in larger variants of the A350 and 787 [53][54]
  • Etihad Airways is said to be in talks for between 50 and 100 narrowbody and widebody aircraft with Airbus and Boeing, to be ordered at the 2008 Farnborough Airshow, with the A380 also likely to be included in the order, according to CEO James Hogan. The two options are a A320/A350 combo, or a 737/787 combo, in addition to the A380. [55]
  • Japan Airlines has stated that the A350XWB is a strong candidate for future expansion, possibly to replace older Boeing 777 models.[56]
  • Jet Airways has been rumoured to be in talks with Airbus over the A350. [57], possibly converting their A330 options to do so.
  • Juneyao Airlines plans to order a mixture of up to 30 A320 and A350 aircraft. [58]
  • Paramount Airways is in talks with Airbus and Boeing to order 6 A350s or 787s. [59]
  • Qantas is considering a purchase of the A350-1000, despite their Boeing 787 order. Qantas was impressed with the latest design (A350 XWB) and will choose between the prospective 787-10 and the A350-1000. [60]
  • Thai Airways International announced in September 2007 that it planned to order a mixture of Boeing 747-8, 737-900, 787-9, and/or Airbus A350 and A321 aircraft. [61]
    • On May 26, 2008, Thai Airways announced, via the Bangkok Post, that it had "secured an informal agreement" with Airbus for 2 A350-1000 to be delivered in 2016, the aircraft presumably being the first few aircraft to be delivered from a larger order. In addition, it revealed that it will look to leasing firms to acquire 14 Boeing 787-9s, and that the Boeing 747-8I, previously being looked at "is not on our radar screen," stating that: "We are not impressed with its capabilities which do not fit into our requirements," according to a senior Thai executive, and adding that "Our view toward the 747-8I is not different from other airlines. Otherwise we would see more orders for the jetliner." It stated that Thai will now look at Boeing 777-300ERs, Airbus A340-600s, along with more A380-800s, to add to the six already ordered.

[edit] Original Orders

The original A350 design was due to enter service in 2010. Changes to the cockpit configuration resulted in a revenue service start date of 2011 [62] The complete redesign which has resulted in the A350 XWB version (see above) has now pushed target entry into service to mid-2013.

The below table is for the original version of the A350 which is no longer on offer. Airlines that sign for the A350 XWB are in the table above.
