Lisselton

Lisselton (Lios Eiltín in Irish) is a village in County Kerry, Ireland.


The parish(Ballydonoghue) contains three pubs (Cantillons, Tomaisins and The Thatch Bar),all 3 of which are located in the Village, a church, 3 primary schools, a supermarket/post office, a Butchers and Ballyloughran leisure centre. There are about 50 houses in the village itself, which in truth,has chaged very little over the past 10-15 years. Several farmers are very loyal to their land which has stunted growth of the village,on line with every other village in North Kerry.

A number of sporting organisations also exist in the parish, with Ballydonoghue GAA Club and Lisselton Rovers F.C. been the two most foremost. Lisselton Rovers while based in the Leisure Center grounds, play alot of their "home" games in Tralee. The GAA club, have their own grounds at Coolard. This has been revamped over the past 5 years and overall, the facilities are topclass. an excellent board work very hard throughout the year to ensure the both the ground improvement and general running of the club, are done. They host a weekly GAA lotto draw which is held every friday night one of the 3 pubs.

A huge amount of new private business have started in the locality over the past 5 years.

It is located 8 km northwest of Listowel on the R553 road to Ballybunion. The village is part of the Parish of Ballydonoghue, which is located in the center of North Kerry. Lisselton is where its at :)

The famous Lartigue monorail passed through Lisselton from 1888 until 1924.

Bill Clinton stopped in Lisselton while travelling to Ballybunion to play a game of golf. This indeed shocked everybody as it was not expected.

Is one of the nicest pubs in Kerry. Is currently up for sale. Is the place to be during the Listowel Races and hosts the lovely Hanora from time to time.

[edit] Tomaisins Bar

Not the cleanest of Pubs, but everybody loves it. Re Christened "live at 5", its one of te most famous pubs in North Kerry. The food is pretty decent there and the pub does a roaring trade at all hours of the morning. Has hosted some 48 events in its time, such as the Biker "Rally" (a.k.a. an excuse for a piss up and burn outs on the newly tarred road). Propeieter is the bold Tomaisin himself.

Is the Biggest legend in the Village. He is the main local Taxi driver and is always only " 5 minutes away". The lad can tell some stories.
