Lisa Jane Phillips

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lisa Jane Phillips was a military impostor who was exposed by an official at Meredith College after she had arranged for the waiver of $42,000 in tuition at the school. In August of 2002, Phillips attended classes wearing a military uniform. In 2005 campus Police Chief Frank Strickland saw the medals on her class-A uniform. These included a medal awarded for service in World War II. Her accounts of fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq did not stand up to scrutiny.[1] Meredith College officials called in the FBI. In 2006, she was charged with impersonating a military officer. She received a sentence of a year and one day. Since the passage of the "Stolen Valor Act", she is the only woman to be charged and convicted of impersonating a service member. [2]
